    It’s not about revenge, it’s about serving justice. If someone ruins your social life, destroys your dignity, and makes you feel like nothing. Then I can assure you you’ll find a way to get your revenge soon and it will be great. Because it’s justified.

    It depends on you as a person. The more people break you, the more satisfied you become once you take revenge on them. Revenge is like a high too. It makes you feel like you satisfied. Especially when that person deserved it. It's like your empathy levels drop and fear, insecurities, sadness all drop. Then anger comes along and then you extract revenge. Honestly it's sweet. Especially if you were really hurt.

    Letting things go is only okay for minor offenses (and it's stressful to be bitter about every single thing). However, revenge feels immensely gratifying. It feels like closing a loop or balancing a karmic scale in your life. It helps immensely with the process of closure and which is important for emotional healing.
    It can go completely out of hand if you don't have any foresight and leave loose ends. In such cases you are just making the situation even worse. Mental and emotional clarity are absolutely necessary to close the loop.

  • @PessOmist
    @PessOmist 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    This would be true is the other person you hated was an actual person with feelings, but often the people you want to ruin, it's because they are an animal sociopath who screwed you over. These people can't feel any remorse for what they did to you, and wouldn't care if they ruined your life. This is why it hurts to put a human in pain, but you feel nothing but relief from destroying a colony of ants invading your home with chemicals, because some people are only out there to cause you misery.

    • @zzamorano1717
      @zzamorano1717 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a fascinating take, I also see it's often something more out of self-interest and domination. First; people think they can get a benefit out of the and they will happily take it, second people are in a position authority and feel that they have they to abuse you, and last (in my personal opinion) they feel somewhat threaten by you, whatever you triggered their insecurities, you hurt their ego, or they felt attacked by you. I don't personally believe that everyone that does ruin you are sociopaths, that term is very misused way too often, people generally don't have a lot of empathy to others that are not in their group, they're very indifferent because they don't know you and they don't care because you're not really a part of their life. That's why a lot of people tend to internalize and sometimes justify certain behavior on other. Don't get me wrong, I could agree with you that some people sociopaths and can be borderline narcissist, but again that seems to be very rare, at least in my observation.

A buddy of mine said go on a fabulous vacation and send him a postcard saying, "Having a wonderful time, glad you're not here." It took a few years and I went traveling alone. I never sent him a single post card, though I bought tons of them. I chuckled each and every time because I WAS having a wonderful time and I was glad he wasn't around to mess up my fun.

    And, not surprisingly, nowhere is it addressed that there are distinct personality differences between people who seek revenge and those who don't.. I'm guessing the moods of those vengeance seeking individuals would be dramatically worse if they were instructed to let it slide, rather than take revenge. I mean, there's no immediate gratification for being vengeful, but the knowledge that you've potentially impacted long term events is mighty satisfying. That'll teach 'em!

    • @austindrapen8959

      +Svetlin Nikolov well, it kind of works, you know those whole "think your way to success" things? though they try to put a bunch of pseudo science into it, it's really just a matter of your brain picking up on what you are thinking about, like if you were to learn a new word, it would suddenly seem much more common than it used to, it's also intensified by the internet's advertisement nature being geared towards what you search. so if you do bad things, you think about bad things, and you focus more on the bad things being done back to you. you won't be "punished" any more than the person next to you, but you will think you are. so karma works to a degree.

    I remember once while I was coming driving out from a supermarket car are realised that a big truck was about to block the street. I put reverse and went into the supermarket. When I was passing next to another car the driver insulted me, presumably for the odd turn I had made. I ignored him and went out from the supermarket using another exit. A few minutes later I saw the car of the person that had insulted me stuck behind the truck with no possibility of getting out. It felt so good to see him there (and still does). I guess I didn't feel bad because didn't seek revenge; it just came down from the sky :)

    No amount of punishment will change the past we think that through revenge we might change it or at least be rid of the pain. Vengeance must be pragmatic you set clear goals what you want to achieve through it, teach a lesson or give everyone a warning not to mess with you otherwise it has no point and any pointless violence and hurt is bad, just let the shit go if you do not actually stand to gain anything from it.

    Revenge is great. Iv'e gotten soooo much of it. Even in games. Like on Warcraft back in the day, I got kicked from a once great guild because of someone else's actions. They forgot to remove one of my characters that had bank access. I robbed it clean. Over 300,000 gold worth of items sold on the auction house. I was set for life and the guild fell apart with fighting and drama. They never figured out who that alt belonged to. It was awesome and I'm still proud of it. They kicked the wrong guy. :D It wasn't in real life but it's still my favorite. There's no feeling like hitting the bad guy twice as hard as they hit you.

Maybe the people who took revenge in those experiments held onto their anger because they were predisposed to holding grudges, whereas the people who get over their anger more quickly are less likely to take revenge because they expect to get over it anyway.

The only reason I didn't use my connections is that she begged me not to. So I called the cops on him at every opportunity whenever I knew he hurt her. She did manage to get out and for that I am endlessly grateful. But I must have called a dozen times. I still hate that fucker for everything he did to my best friend.

    Revenge is an addiction. It starts out innocently, but then you want more and more and more. It only keeps you angry because letting out emotions is easier than coming to terms with the pain. How much pain you caused to the cause is wasted energy that can be directed at improving and preparing for if/when It happens again.

    I see a problem with these studies. There are multiple reasons why people commit revenge, and whatever the reason may be will affect whether or not the revenge has an emotional benefit. When you have something taken away from you by force in an unjust manner, revenge is bound to leave a good feeling to some degree. This is why Bin Laden getting killed acted as a form of closure for some people.
    Meanwhile, in a game where someone cheats, the players didn't result in a significant net loss. It's hard to justify revenge when your life status is no different than it was yesterday. This is why the players who didn't seek revenge felt fine - they realized their loss was no big deal, while the people seeking revenge were inevitably going to cause more harm than what was done to them. It's not justice when there's an imbalance of misery.
    Most people are altruistic to some degree. When you commit revenge on someone and notice how much misery you cause them, it's not going to feel good. Your painful moment was in the past. Much like physical wounds, emotional pain can heal, but not all wounds heal at an equal rate. Someone stealing your money in a game is just a bruise. Someone killing a family member is like losing an arm or a leg. The bruise doesn't hurt after a few minutes, so by the time you try to do equal damage, it won't feel comparable.

    I think these studies are flawed, or are at least being presented in a flawed way. If you take a group of people, all of whom are wronged. Some of these people choose to forgive and move on, some choose to exact revenge...and 10 min later are still miffed. This DOES NOT mean exacting revenge will leave you miffed. It might mean that, but it also might just mean the people who originally forgave are simply more mello then the revenge takers. The Bin Laden one seems flawed too. Had the U.S. government "forgave" bin laden...would people feel all rosey when reminded of him and his acts? I don't think so.
