I in fact meant to have the Rev F in Vintage MY BAD
How do we get Mesa to make a Rev F(luff) reissue / signature model 😅😅
That would be so great!
I’m here for it! 😜🤘🏽🇦🇺
Why, the multi watt sounded better
That multi watt sounds incredible , I’d love that thing as is! Both amps sound great but the multi watt def sounds more along the lines of the tone I love!
Agreed, love the extra mid range. Multi watt is less fizzy and scooped, much better
I guess I’m in the minority here, but I much prefer the sound of the Multi-Watt. I feel the scooped sound of the Rev F would be completely lost in a live mix.
YOUR REV F SLAYS DUDE!!!!!!! (Honestly it is just so much more present)
At this point, considering how much you love and know about the Rectifier series, Mesa should hire you to update their amps to sound like the rev F or one of the older revisions, possibly including a mode switch to switch the preamp between Rectifier and Roadster voicings. I feel that Mesa needs to do the same thing that Peavey did with their 6505 line, 90s sound was the peak of pure tone quality imo.
Badlander.
Appreciate ya Fluff. Hope all is well with your health brother. Happy holidays to you and yours.
I’m always amazed how people can dial in a good recto tone. I’ve had numerous recto heads in no matter how hard I try with various boost pedals. I am just absolutely god awful at dialing them in. I end up Selling them off sadly
I have found after playing probably hundreds of them that the 2 channels vary so wildly.
I have had a similar issue with Rectos myself. I started with a 5150 though so I think I like a more mids driven high gain tone.
Love your rectifier content
Thanks Dad, needed this exact video.
PS that End long-sleeve is fire
I like them both, i had dual recto fron 2010 and i liked it a lot but ended up selling it and went for a revv mk3 and amp1 iridium. I think every high gain amp sounds good with the right cab, boost and eq. Nice riffage my dude 🤘🤘🤘
And this is why I will never ever sell my dual rev f!
It really is worth the hype.
I also have a modern road king II which is great but it doesn't have the same feel.
Road king is really a swiss army knife though and it is great as well.
Any chance of a video comparing the the single, dual, and triple rectifiers ?
This was a great shoot out, absolutely! There's a certain tone that I'm looking for that I thought was the rectifier but from listening to this in this video, they both sound boxy with an overbearing chainsaw high end. Like you said, both amp serve a purpose and I love what they do but the source tone search continues.
I have the exact same rev F triple, a rev G dual racktifier and a rev G tremoverb. For some reason I prefer the triple rec sound on silicon diode while I always keep the 2 dual recs on tube rectifier settings. Is it possible for rectifier tubes to go bad ?
Also I only play the cloned red to vintage channel on all three Mesas. I only play extreme metal but I never liked the non-cloned red channels on my amps. I really need to try a stiletto I think.
Now we just need to get my prototype Rectifier in the mix, Fluff!! Especially now that you’ve started on the Triples, after having dove into the Duals already.
You had me at Girth❤🥴
I had a Rev G Dual Racktifier and currently have a Dual Rec Multi-watt. I really liked the Rev G but after trying the MW I was impressed enough to give up one for the other. One isn’t better than the other, I just preferred the tone of one. If I could have kept both I would have. It’s worth mentioning that my favorite high gain amp is my ‘91 Mark IV. Some of the inherent increased mods are magic to my ears. It would be cool to hear an EQ into the TRMW and see if that added low end could bring it closer to the Rev F. Nice shootout!
ve always wondered Fluff.... you make all these gear reviews but i havent seen you put a video out about your signature Fluence pickup. im rocking it in an RGA right now and love it compared to the regular Modern i had in it, but i would love to know from YOU what all you tweaked about it :)
the rev f sounds great!
Wow the modern channels sound closer ... Thanks for the comparison Fluff !
Why does your multi-watt triple recto sound sound bad in comparison to my multi-watt dual recto? I honestly don't understand that.
Prefer the multi watt. But then again I like mids and being heard in a band context 😂
I have a multiwatt dual rec manufactured late 2022 and it has loads of bottom end I don't go past 11:00 on the bass knob and it is really punchy and full I wonder if the dual vs triple is the bigger difference or just unit to unit either way the one I have reminds me of how the heads from the early 2000s which were probably 90s heads I was hearing maybe just a tad tighter sound on this new one.
Ill add that I have only tested my head in 50 watt mode on bold with stock 6l6s
I am shocked how much better the Ref. F sounds. Good to know before buying!
Hey Fluff, what would you say which revision was used on AiC's Dirt album? I know it's kind of for debate if there even was a Recto used for the album, but let's assume it was. The album was recorded March to May 1992. Now in 1992 there were a lot of revisions possible (basically A to F IIRC). Do you have further info on the months in which each revision was manufactured? What would be your guess?
apologies if I missed it - is this using a load box or a cab? what was each amp hooked up to?
To my ear, while there's definitely a difference in how the preamps react, a lot of the tonal difference may be coming from those EL34s in the Rev F. Would it be a more fair comparison to run the new TR with EL34s too? The 6L6s smooth out a lot, and that may be having an impact here.
No. 6L6s provide the Multiwatt with much needed low end. Sure, EL-34s would brighten the Multiwatt, but they would also reduce the low end and increase the mids even more, making for a worse overall sound.
Stick with whatever makes each amp sound its best. There's no sense in doing a tone comparison if one amp has been set up in a disadvantageous way.
He had the orange channel on the MW set to vintage instead of modern. Guess he forgot to change it? Would explain the difference in mids
your comment about the multi watt being nasal..I was thinking vocal...like it is more in the vocal range...your rev f is carved out in that specific range but has more slightly higher and slightly lower content...if that makes sense...(more upper mids and lower mids...while the multiwatt is more MID mids)
They both sizzle. The rev F a little more but they both sound great. Nice riff for that amp too.
Tem muita diferença do triple rev f para o dual rev F?? Sei dos 50w e mais headroom, mais o som e parecido??
Tenho um Dual Rev F R- 15xx
I build dual rectifier preamp (just red ch), and tested many capacitors. They making differences in sound.
The F did have a slightly fuller sound imo. Thanks for the shootout.
I thought old Rectifiers have less fizz?!? I much more prefer the sound of the Multi-Watt… but I‘m a 5150-guy at heart, so that mid-characteristics of the MW speaks to me.
Love that Rev F sound - very 90s. When it comes to Mesa’s I love the scooped tone from the preamp - I’d rather get my mids elsewhere (boost, speaker, eq pedal if necessary) - Mesa’s preamp mids never do it for me
Agreed
Rev F is where it's at! Never selling mine :)
The Rev F wins here but I can't help but to feel that you could dial in that Multi Watt to sound very similar if you want to... I have a Multi Watt and that thing sounds thick and chunky in the room like that Rev F does. Although mine is a Dual.
I think I see a rev f coming out in the near future.
This reminds me of a Slayer thing where the killer mix would be having two guitarists mixed together with both amps.
Rev F is the king! Simply the best!
really dig the amp shelf, where could i get one?
Build it like I did! (There is a video I made about it if you do)
@@RiffsAndBeards if only my hands followed my brain🤣
BTW, switch is in Vintage mode on Orange channel Muliwat
Rev F sounds brutal
Hello Ryan Bruce!
Wasn’t the orange channel on the MW supposed to be set to modern? Because it looks like it was on vintage… May have had an impact on the mids
This dude it was so obvious that was the difference
Surprised nobody else mentioned that, I could tell the second he changed amps that the rev f was on orange modern
I preferred the multi-watt in nearly every scenario. I feel like it would also sit better in a mix. More mid forward and less “can of bees” fizz. But both are rad in their own way. To each their own I guess! 🤷🏻♂️
The Rectifiers are really sensitive to tubes. And yes Mr. Glenn Fricker, tubes do matter! The sound of EL34 vs 6L6 in the Rectifier makes a difference. But, moreso do the preamp tubes. I had quite some Rectifiers on my workbench and none of them played out its full potential with the current JJ sourced Mesa 12AX7. For me, they sound wrong, in these amps. I like the Shuguang 12AX7 especially the old square getter ones. Maybe that also pays to the difference of these amps, in this comparison. Because, Multi Watts are great amps.
Why is the MW in vintage??? Strange way to compare the orange channels when the F is clearly set Orange to Modern
On the orange channel the Rev F sounded like a recto, the new multiwatt was more like recto with a mark style eq curve, more vocal less aggressive in upper mids and much less low end balls.
MW was set to vintage while the F was audibly in modern.
Fluff... bruh. You feeling alright bud?
The Multi-Watt's Orange channel set on Vintage mode. The Rev F was also dialed WAY louder than the Multi-Watt. OF COURSE the quieter dialed MW in Orange Vintage mode is going to sound microscopic and mid-rangey compared to any Orange Modern mode in any Recto.
This is exactly what I was thinking, and he says “I don’t like feeding the hype buuutttt” then posts this unfair comparison vid
The Rev F. sounds so much better, in the orange mode, it's hard to believe they are the same brand of amp! In the red mode, they are closer, but my money is on the Rev F.
rev "F" breathes, I like it.
I don't know why everyone treats these amps like their tone controls work like traditional controls. They don't and they are interactive with each other. Changing mid doesn't necessarily change the mids. It's all a balancing act between the controls and it's a bit different on each channel. It's a strange tone stack. The manual helped understand it but it's all an experiment. Each control makes a huge difference with subtle adjustments too. I ran mine bass 6, treble 5.5-6, mids 0, presence 4, gain 6-7 in the red modern mode. Wasn't a scooped sound, just huge and filled the room well.
For both channels it's the same for me in terms of which I like. Non boosted give me the multi watt. Boosted the rev F.
I prefer the orange channel of the multi-watt and the red channel of the Rev F.
Dude both those amps have the warm distortion thing, theres tubes in those,
And I'm like well, there's tubes, and those kinda amps do warm chuggy distortion stuff, then there's solid state amplifiers, where I'm like well we don't need to boost that with a tubescreamer, cause well,we have the crate g-20,with a 12 inch radioshack speaker in that,b.c. rich warlock core guitar, with dimarzio deactivator pickups, and the only pedal i have been using is a boss metalcore with the distortion knob set on 22.
I got the whammy pedal on layaway, cause i was like yes i need to make noises, i wanted to get the boss synth pedal also, and after both of those pedals,i might need 1 or 2 noisegate pedals to clean all that up somewhat kinda😊
Hmm? The Rev F sounds closer to a Single Rec head I have ... I also have a Dual Multi Watt... (Blah) .... Now I have to go try to make them sound close... Hahaha
Sorry to say, but as recorded here, if they would have been just audio, I would totally believe if you say for the Rev F it’s in fact a Digitech RP55.
You are possibly deaf
I think you'd get similar results with a rev G
Your amp sounds more present and in your face. The new one sounds more distant kinda reverb-ish.
if the purpose of the video is to show how they sound like for like ok, but if the purpose were to show if the Multiwatt can sound the same, no, pots are different..I would have tried to increase bass and treble and scoop the mids a little bit more on the multiwatt, the F is bigger sounding, more scooped but also it as more sparkle.
rev F bro all day long. There is something special about it. Is it worth a few grand more? I don't know i'll tell you this when i need that sound i use my rev f or modded rev c over multiwatt triple with 34s all day long.
I think you could get the Rev F to sound like the Multi-Watt but I don't think the Multi-Watt can sound like the Rev F as well. That Rev F is just nasty!!!
The Rev F all day
Great video. I actually preferred the throaty mid-range of the multi-watt amp on the orange channel. The rev F seemed buzzy on the orange channel. The red channel comparison was much closer, with the rev F having that nice low end bump. The multi-watt though, IMO is a more versatile amp, with a decent clean channel included and a usable FX loop.
I would blend these two amps, the punch, huge and sizzle of the Rev F with the precision and gnarly nasal mids of the Multiwatt 🤘🤘on a double tracked metal riff this would be absolutely killer
Rev F wins it for me !
Dimed. The word you were looking for is dined.
More Ridiculous REverb Listings!!!!!!
Rev F destroyed the MW here. Can usually get the MW closer to the top and bottom end of the older ones by running the MV REALLY low, they use different pot tapers so the MW run out of headroom a little quicker
He had the orange channel on the MW set to vintage instead of modern. Guess he forgot to change it? Would explain the difference in mids
@@AD4M1873was the Rev F set to channel cloning/modern though? might have been on default? same sort of differences on the red channels
@@eds4754 no idea. All I know is he said the orange and red channels will be set to the modern voicing mode but the orange was set to vintage
Multi watt sounds muffled. Rev F is so high fidelity.
Wow. 😂 I guess this is the new Gibson-era Multiwatt… Wtf did they do bro
Rev F.
Oh man! Was almost 100% those tubes were pronounced,”Shuh-Gang”! Hahahaha learn something new everyday!
I see why people like the rev F. I'd still be happy with the MW, but definitely wouldnt pay 3200 for a new one.
Not a Recto fan at all, but I very much prefer the new MW in this shootout.
Rev F all the way
Man this makes me hate my triple multi even more.
For me -
Orange Channel: Multiwatt won.
Red Channel: Rev F won.
I prefer the Multi Watt here. Don’t like the fizz on the Rev F
I got both a Rev F Dual Rec and a Multi Watt Dual Rec: just more gear porn ideas for me!
all these rectifiers sound about an 1/8th of a knob turn different from each other, definitely not enough of a difference to buy two of em
Multi watt all day
The multi sounds broken
You can always scoop mids. I think the multi watt is more versatile.
I know I’m in the minority but I just don’t like this sound at all. The multi watt sounds like a practice combo amp and the the rev F sounds like that same amp lined out to a 4x12 so it has some resonance. They’re both a hissy mess.
I couldn’t agree more. I can’t stand the sound of the triple.
I like the new one better.
They’d sound great together.
Mesa just do nothing for me.
Just get an engl and stop compromising
I had my phone sat down while the video was playing and I glanced over about 1/3 of the way in. You’re playing guitar in a circle and overlayed on top of yourself. Your picking hand on the bottom overlay triggered my brain to think you were playing guitar and dancing your legs around from my periferial view.
That Rev. F sounds unbearably fizzy. Much prefer the barky midrange of the Multi-Watt.
