      @@arranbanslol @10:22 after he says "Drop C" and you don't believe him, he starts playing riffs where he's clearly playing barre chords with one finger across three strings, same fret. Fretting barre chords like this requires the three lowest strings to be tuned to a power/barre chord (root fifth 8th), which is consistent with drop D/C/etc.

    I am lucky enough to own this beast paired with an OS slant 4x12 cab! You can get pretty much every kind of tone you want from it. From blues to modern metal. It just needs extra care with the presence/treble knobs like you showed. Putting an OD in front....man it becomes instant chug heaven! To my ears when you set it to 150 watt, I think the tone clears a bit from the fizz. Also, I find that putting the master output at noon and then adjusting the separate volume of each channel also clears some fizz. Great playthrough/showcase as always!

    I actually found that the Raw and Vintage make a better crunch one with the gain low than the Pushed mode on the green. The green channel is just super dark and congested even if a boost and the presence and treble cranked. I generally have it on the clean and hit it with an overdrive for this very thick and dirty breakup and when you boost the pushed it gets this nasty grunge sound.

    One trick i found if u don't wanna use a boost and find it a little dry and need more saturation; the presence works to add more saturation to the gain not just more top end. Just crank presence to around 8 with gain maxed. It still won't be tight in the lows so leaving the presence around noon and gain around 8 and using a boost is still prefered. Just a maxon 808 green or red is enough otherwise pepers dirty tree and the savage drive work great with it. Legendary metal amp for a solid reason \m/ \m/

    I got this in 2008, this and the Engl Powerball are my favorite amps ever made. I run this on the red channel with a milk box compressor, crybaby from hell and a behringer tube screamer (808 clone) up front, with a mxr 10 band eq and boss ns-2 in the effects loop. And it sounds great. The reason I like it so much more now than when I bought it is because the way I have it set up, it produces a crushing metal tone that doesn’t sound like the carbon copy 6505 sound you hear on virtually every major record in the metal world. That and I’ve taken it on tours and played countless shows with it and it’s been rock solid.

    @Aibric ปีที่แล้ว +3

    One thing you may be missing is what the Presence knob is doing in Modern mode. Since negative feedback is removed in that mode but the Presence knob obviously does something, you may wonder what it’s doing.
    To simplify what I roughly remember about it, it’s basically adjusting what amounts to a high shelf or almost like a low pass that exists as part of the tone stack circuit. On other modes it is set at a certain frequency above which everything starts to get dumped to ground and you gain that back in a different way through the negative feedback via the Presence knob. On Modern mode you’re able to adjust that and add high frequencies back in at that point in the circuit.

    • @UncleBensRice
      @UncleBensRice ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In Modern Mode the presence control is a simple treble cut circuit similar to the Tone knob on a guitar. It acts like a shelf filter.
      In Raw and Vintage the negative feedback is enabled and the presence acts as a high end boost. It's not fixed in frequency it is also a shelf filter. The more you turn it up the more it will move down in frequency and also increase the boost.

    • @Aibric
      @Aibric ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@UncleBensRice In Raw/Vintage Presence simultaneously adjusts negative feedback and that treble filtering from the tone stack as well? I did not know that. I thought it was essentially just set to shelve off at a certain frequency in those modes.
      The tone stack is weird. I remember the frequency range of the mid and treble knobs overlap somewhat and the that of the treble knob isn’t actually very high. It’s almost like you just have two mid knobs.

    • @UncleBensRice
      @UncleBensRice ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Aibric No that is not waht I meant. In Vintage and Raw the negative feedback loop is engaged. Applying negative feedback does lower the gain (not to be confused with preamp gain/distortion) of the poweramp.
      On a Rectifier the amount of negative feedback is fixed for all modes but modern.
      The presence control gives you a way of cutting some high end out of that negative feedback loop so less high end is feedback into the power amp. Because there is less negative feedback in the highs there is also a smaller loss of gain for the high end and we perceive this as a boost in the high end.
      Now the presence control is not set to any specific frequency like a eq slider is.
      If you turn it up it will boost the highs more and more but it will also come down in frequency and will also start to affect the mids.
      The eq circuit doesn't have any specific set frequencies for the bass mids and treble knobs.
      With everthing set to 5 the eq curve looks like a V shape. It has a big dip in the mids around 500Hz. There is some interaction going on between the controls most notably between the treble and the mids, because the treble determines where that mid dip sits frequency wise.
      If you turn the treble up the mid dip will shift down in frequency to 300-450Hz. If you turn the treble down the mid dip will shift up to 600-700Hz.
      What most people don't the eq circuit is almost identical to the standard Marshall eq.

    • @Aibric
      @Aibric ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UncleBensRice yeah sorry I totally mistook your meaning.
      I was probably remembering incorrectly (ever since I started raising kids I swear my memory is corrupted) that the high cut was still in the circuit in the other modes just at a fixed value. I’ve had it in my head that this is some weird thing about Rectos for a long time and it never made sense to me except to maybe explain why the treble knob doesn’t seem to “open up” the high end like on a 5150 or something.

    • @UncleBensRice
      @UncleBensRice ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Aibric The high cut that is used in the preamp in Modern mode is also used in Vintage and Raw. But most the time it is fixed so thats why I didn't mention it. On the old 3ch in orange raw you can adjust it. Or on a 2ch. with red cloned to vintage.
      All the Rectifiers have somewhat unique modes that aren't included on other Rectifiers. The only Mode that is equal on all the heads is red modern.

I also remember being able to completely change or ruin your tone depending on your Send/Receive settings on the loop. That and of course the Bold vs Spongy and Tube vs Silicon Diode Rectifier. I absolutely loved recto's until I played a VHT Pittbull ULX and eventually a Soldano SLO and REVV.

      Fryette UL is king for hardcore,, so is SLO100 (for everything else and metal), Mesa is like the prince,, still royal, but not quite the king. Also, the EVH stealth is for the money, pretty damn close to sounding as bad ass as those other 3 wrapped into one amp.

      @@realtruenorth what I noticed as we went from a dual recto three channel to a Hughes and Kettner triamp, then a Bogner extacy, then a revv generator 120p, then the vht/fryette ULX eq and Soldano slo100 was that the clarity increased significantly. At one point we thought recto’s were the pinnacle, then we started trying other dream heads and realized that the others killed them clarity/quality wise. The tones here are like teenager bedroom amps. How is this tone going to cut through, live and recorded? The first thing any engineer will do to record you is to roll off all that bassy dirge.

    I have this amp in black-vinyl front with black vents. Went for the "classy" look lol. Red modern is where it's at for me most of the time, but orange vintage with a maxon 9+ is right there also. They said from the beginning that these were true clones between orange and red, and that the presence value was assigned per mode not per channel like they used to be,,,,,but if you look in the back of manual at the part numbers you will see that the presence pot is only dual-mode on the red and not the orange channel, so I'm not sure how they pull that off unless the orange's presence pot is only being used on raw and vintage and orange modern is re-routed to the red's pot.(?) Anyways my ears do not find them to be the same at all. I'm glad because I like the slight differences between modern in orange vs red, and vintage in orange vs red.

      On the Multiwatt both channels have the stacked pot for the presence controls. On the older models not only the value but also the switching around the pot and the bright cap of the eq are different between orange and red.
      The Multiwatt is the first Rectifier that has true channel cloning. Both channels are exactly the same circuit wise. The red channel has a tiny bit more presence due to some signal bleed on the circuit board.

    • @metalgear74
      @metalgear74 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UncleBensRice My multi-triple manual shows the green and orange presence pot as #590738 which is a single 250k linear. It shows only the red presence pot as #592596 which is the stacked pot. Have you opened it up and looked for yourself? I have not. I know they said they were both stacked and I remember an article by the main design guy John Marshall(formerly of Metal Church). Their own manual disagrees though.

    • @UncleBensRice
      @UncleBensRice ปีที่แล้ว

      @@metalgear74 I own both a 2014 Multiwatt Dual Rectifier and a 2001 Triple Rectifier and I opened both amps up to verify the schematics I have.
      The Dual has stacked pots with 25k for raw and vintage and 100k for the modern mode.
      The 250k is the right value for channel 1.
      On the Multiwatt orange and red are identical. On the old 3channel orange and red are different and can't be exactly cloned.
      On the Multiwatt you have only three modes:
      Raw: feedback, 25k presence in poweramp, 500pf Treble cap
      Vintage feedback, 25 presence in poweramp, 500pf Treble cap
      Modern: no feedback, 100k presence after eq, 680pf Treble Cap
      On the old 3ch:
      Orange:
      Raw: feedback, 25k presence after eq, 500pf Treble cap
      Vintage: feedback, 25k presence in poweramp, 500pf Treble cap
      Modern: no feedback, 25k presence in the poweramp, 500pf Treble cap
      Raw: feedback, 100k presence in poweramp, 500pF Treble cap
      Vintage: feedback, 100k presence in poweramp, 500pF Treble cap
      Moderm: no feedback, 100k after eq, 680pF Treble cap
      You can't really trust these manuals they have small errors here and there.
      For instance:
      The 2ch Rev G has wrong partsnumbers listed for the presence pot.
      The old 3ch manual claims you could get the channels to sound the same by simply switching out the presence pots which is not true.

    The negative feedback is removed on the MODERN setting only,on both the red and orange channels. The difference between orange and red channels is the presence pot,otherwise they are identical. I’ve gigged rectifiers for almost 20 yrs,and i have to agree with Kyle, the multiwatt dual is king.

    • @UncleBensRice
      @UncleBensRice ปีที่แล้ว

      On the Multiwatt both channels are exactly the same regardless of the selected mode.
      On the older 3ch channels the switching around the presence pot was different, pot values were different and also the value of the treble cap is different (in modern mode only).
      Most of that came from the old 2 channel heads and Mesa carried that over into the 3 channel heads. People complained throughout the years and that's why Mesa chose to finally do a proper channel cloning on the Multiwatt. For that reason the Multiwatt lacks some special modes the old heads could do.
