Disney Censors Star Wars While Supporting Concentration Camps And Racism? Yikes.

- Disney has apparently decided to start censoring their properties even more with the latest casualty being Boba Fett's ship, the Slave 1 from Star Wars. What I personally do not understand is how they can claim to care about something like this, or many of the other issues they seem to claim to care about, while filming Mulan near internment camps for Muslims in China and minimizing the role of John Boyega in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. They've continued to comb through their Disney Plus archives and censor different movies and shows while making decisions in real life that come off very hypocritical. Be sure to check the sources at the very bottom of this description. The company continues to make ridiculous decisions that don't seem to back up what they believe or support in real life. Whether it be the censorship of something like Star Wars or Lion King or even Disney censoring Simpsons, it just comes off as forced and fake for the sake of money and not upsetting anyone. #disney #starwars #bobafett

It was just pointed out to me that I forgot to clarify one point - when I say that this company donated to politicians it's important to point out that these things are done in ways that have plausible deniability attached to them. When you go to a website like open secrets and look into these companies, generally a lot of the contributions to campaigns come from people around the company or involved directly with it, but not from the company's direct funds. The idea here is that generally a company, not Disney specifically but any company, can say that they didn't give anything to any politicians and that they are apolitical. Meanwhile You will have the CEO, key executives and their family members giving large swans of money to different campaigns or individuals. So in that way, I should clarify that it is my interpretation / opinion when that is done that the company / key members of it are clearly trying to involve themselves in the election and own a piece of it. However, because it is individual funds I'm sure that some of it is actually from the heart / personal but I personally don't buy that at all is. I guess call me a conspiracy theorist or whatever, but that's my take. This video was so long that I did not get heavily into that point but I should have explained it even more and just extended the video by 2 minutes. Disney is a corporatist company that makes trillions of dollars from CEOS like Kevin Keige and Bob Igor, but you’re right about Disney’s huge hypocrisy on their part.
I’m going to get a lot of flack for this, but from what I’ve gathered (and I could be wrong since Disney hasn’t clarified this) people are taking this name change out of context. Slave 1 will only be called Boba Fett’s Starship for toy products like this lego set. As for the main canon, it’s still called Slave 1. It even says Slave 1 on the official website. And in TCW, Aurra Sing said to Bossk to “fire up Slave 1.” I could be wrong here, but that’s my take for what they mean.
I don't think you deserve flack for that interpretation. I don't think they will go back and retroactively remove that TCW scene or anything like that, but I do think that they're going to avoid purposely referring to it as Slave 1 out loud very much. I could be wrong, and to be fair they don't go around yelling ship names all the time regardless other than the Falcon, so to me personally it's more about this being yet another thing they've done that I find silly vs just the one thing.

@@DegenerateJay I also want to point out that LEGO sets usually have standard names so the kids would understand easily what they are looking at (remember that not all kids watch Star Wars). Now they aren't consistent with that rule, but you can see ships with canonical names that had just standard names all the time.

Slavery has relevance in the Star Wars universe, which baffles me even more about this, I’m pretty sure jango named it slave 1 because he stole it from slavers, the name slave 1 wasn’t chosen just because it was cool, it has context and meaning in canon

I took this as not them changing the name of the ship, but them just referring to it as Boba Fett’s starship on the Lego set and only on the Lego set so when a kid says he wants a “Lego Boba Fett ship” the parents can find one without any confusion as to what a Slave 1 is.

I'll own I glossed over Alex Hirsch completely which is my bad lol. That's my mistake and I'm not going to pretend it wasn't. I have indeed watched some of Gravity Falls with friends while in college. I liked it just fine but never personally looked into it's creator or watched more than a handful of episodes but yes I still don't want it randomly censored on behalf of it's fandom at the very least.

Hey Jay, Mark Anthony Austin (He played Boba Fett in the special edition of a new hope) has said that he’s outraged at Disney for renaming the Slave 1. He also tweeted “My ship will forever be Slave 1. Nothing. Not even #disney can or will change that. This is the way.” So not even the actor is okay with this rename even though he was only the actor once.

I wish more people were talking about it. I don't think thanks are needed since speaking out on something like that is the least people can do, but I really appreciate the kind words. The human rights violations and lives being ruined there is unacceptable and it makes me sick that so many are ignoring it.

This is why I’ve switched to manga and anime. Aside from the shitty products, complete disrespect of beloved franchises and fans this is the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. I’m so sick and tired of companies making empty gestures that destroys canon (for the love of fucking god, these franchises are escapist entertainment not platforms to push your own bullshit political agendas, whatever they might be)while simultaneously supporting the people that the “progressives” they’re trying to pander to are against.
If I were Disney I would simply focus on making GOOD ENTERTAINMENT like they used to and stay out of real world events. They’re an entertainment company and even if they weren’t, this company doesn’t care and even if it did, lacks the critical thinking skills and intelligence to talk about these issues.

I like parts of them for what they are but think they're inferior products due to a lack of planning. I will stand by I really loved 7. 8 was a trainwreck imo with a good final 20 min and 9 was a scramble to fix 8. I ended up LIKING the sequels but not loving them.

What kinda funny is that so many people think it’s censorship, when it’s literally just for toys. The ship is called the slave 1 like 3 times in the movies/ clone wars. A lot of little kids will call it boba feats ship and not know the actual name. They never said they’re changing the canon name and yet everyone loses their minds.

While we're on this topic, do you think that if someone was making a movie or something that takes place in the era that these things are happening (like a time where caucasians were calling African Americans the "N" word), they could have that behavior/language/content within the movie or game or whatever? By this, I'm meaning if they made something like Assassin's Creed, where it's a retelling of historical events that is slightly changed to have a fictional character in the story as well.

One of the toy companies labeled it as Boba Fett’s ship instead of Slave One because that’s what they do for all their Star Wars toys. Kids are more likely to pick up “____’s ship” than “*insert official name of ship that never gets mentioned in the movies”

And they weren’t always black people, which is who big time companies are likely afraid of offending. A lot of earlier slaves were actually white people, because African Americans weren’t commonly found in Europe in earlier times. Most of them were prisoners of war or petty criminals and even just sometimes vagrants. Plus the “Slave 1” was named because Boba Fett was first introduced when Jabba kidnapped Princess Leia and made her his slave. Ergo: “Slave 1”.

Replacing the word homo with weirdo does not imply that they think homosexuals are weird because the original context was an insult. They are not censoring homosexuality, they are censoring the use of the word homosexual as a derogatory term. I agree that the censorship is ridiculous but their stance on this bit of censorship is consistent with their message is all I am saying.
I think it comes off as just saying they think those words are similar enough in meaning to cover it up and not change the meaning which comes off as anti LGBTQ to me.
