Thanks for this video. I have a large pedalboard and tube amp setup that I love and want to keep long term but I fly rig and while I've been looking at Kemper, Fractal, Neural etc. they're really hard to justify when I don't use a lot of effects. I was thinking of doing something like you've done with the Tonex + delay + modulation (maybe Boss 200s as they're multi-fx) + DI along with a midi controller. I have a Boss ES8 on my main board so I'm familiar with running MIDI in dedicated loops. The Midi Controller you're using as well as others like the morningstar have only a single input and output. Is the solution to just daisy chain the midi for a small number of devices like that? If that can work I feel like this would make an awesome fly rig for covers and jamming etc.
No worries! Yes, you can daisy chain the MIDI through multiple FX that have all MIDI I/O. From memory, I think Morningstar have a good video on how to set this up. Cheers ; )
Yeah, I imagine that would be useful... In my particular setup, it wouldn't work because I'm using two seperate pedalboards. So I have the analog switcher on the bottom board and the MIDI switcher on the top board. But I certainly take your point. Cheers ; )
How many inputs can the Blackstar live logic take? If you have a multi-effects for time-based effects like your reverb, chorus and delays like that of Zoom MS-70CDR, is it possible to take 2 inputs (Tonex+Zoom) and mix it up for your presets?
Hey! There's only one input and output on the Live Logic. But for the type of setup you're describing, you'd just need to daisy chain multiple FX together via the MIDI I/O. This way the MIDI messages will be received by each pedal. Here's a great video explaining: th-cam.com/video/JIzCEYvwt1M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ievj9OQw6KWlC694
I'm game for the full rig rundown. I'm particularly keen to know why you've got your Boss MO-2 in what appears to be the second to last position. I assume it's to take advantage of the stereo outs but it's an odd spot for a pitch shifter. Even one that tracks as well as the MO-2 does.
Nice! Yes, the top row is actually a second line of pedals that I'm running in parallel with my main rig. It actually doesn't hit the TONEX at all. Here's a video that explains the setup a bit better (I've just replaced the TC Sub 'N' Up with the MO-2 for the stereo goodness): th-cam.com/video/ll92Q3zMHhQ/w-d-xo.html
strange following the same settings and my live logic sets 1-4 pc as toggle where yours is momentary... only 5,6 are momentary (bank change use likely the reason for it) did i miss something? went into cc na dset them to toggle, then back to momentary and then back to pc and they are now momentary all the way across. perfect.
Hey, thats great, i actually have the tonex and the same controler, but the livelogic app is not working in my mac, no idea... what OS version are you using?
Hey! I'm not sure why that would be... I guess you could try updating everything. I recently updated to whatever the latest Mac OS is myself. That said, I think the OS update broke my computer. But at least the Live Logic app still works fine ; )
The Live Logic is a solid controller for a reasonable amount of money. The only thing I wish I could change, or figure out is how to have the LED's go on and off the way I want them to.
Hey! Yes, I noticed that quirk with the Live Logic... That said, in this particular setup the TONEX screen always tells you which preset you're on. So it's not really an issue. But I could imagine it could be frustrating if you're using it with a different device. Cheers ; )
This is amazing! I've never used MIDI so bear with me. I have Tonex Pedal and I'm a rhythm player so I don't have a complicated fx path... I love the way you've set this up: the Live Logic selects the amp and the Tonex selects (to me) the lo gain/ hi gain/ boost. That in itself is fantastic for me. I only really need 4 amp models so could I use switches 5 & 6 on the Live Logic as global controls such as reverb or the upcoming chorus??

MIDI controllers are great... but we all need a controller that takes loop switches also (to control the analog section)

Can it switch the volume of an ToneX amp too so it can crank up the volume for solos?
Yep, you can map the MIDI to pretty much anything ; )

Nice. Glad you got it sorted out 👍

I built a similar rig with the Tonex and the Morningstar MC6 Pro.
Nice! The MC6 Pro looks like a great unit ; )

Nice! Yep, it might take a bit of experimentation. But the possibilities are almost endless ; )
