An interesting fact is that in the cell phone scene, all the extras who are next to McGregor are survivors of the tsunami, also the women who dress María are the same. BAYONA IS THE MASTER OF REALISM.

Lucas found 73 people. He’s now a doctor in France. The family was involved with the filming, picking the actors that portrayed them. They returned, and stayed in the same resort. An amazing, resilient family.

Naomi Watts was nominated for an oscar. Ewan and Tom deserved one as well, all 3 were brilliant! Watts is so underrated

This was devastating. It’s fitting that despite our main family finding each other, we are still left with the weight of everyone left behind. It’s rare that movies allow us to stay in that reality when there is a happy ending for the protagonists. Amazingly done.

I loved your reaction. I loved how you put Bayona behind the curtain, ha ha ha. Bayona was reading the Snow Society book while filming this and took the title THE IMPOSSIBLE from a phrase that one of the Uruguayan survivors repeated. He also read the book to the actors to motivate them. The real family is Spanish, María is a super woman, she gives talks all over the world about resilience and her incredible story. Thank you, kisses from Chile.

Another beautiful and heartbreaking J.A Bayona movie is A Monster Calls. Its based on a book that was written by Patrick Ness with story idea by author Siobhan Dowd. I think the story behind the book can give you an idea about the movie. Siobhan Dowd was an author who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. While in treatment she got the idea to write a story to help her kids process their grief and she started doing outlining but she passed away before she could finish the story. Patrick Ness was a friend of the editor she was working with and he finished her book for her.

About 230 thousand people died in the tragedy. I cry every time I watch this movie and every time I see someone watch it for the first time. It’s so traumatic as a viewer just imagine how it felt to actually be there. Ugh
