I actually thought about both. I thought the magnet wouldn't work for me since there were other magnetic parts nearby. I didn't go with the putty since 1) I didn't have any and 2) I didn't think it would hold onto the washer as well. The wire clip worked really well. I think I got lucky because the wire I had handy to me was soft enough to bend by hand but stiff enough to stay in the bent shape. Thanks for your question and for watching.

But I am not as experienced as you. I can learn from your attempts at solving the problem. And I know we just need one tool concept to work out in these situations, not the end all and be all of a robust cost effective product going to market, etc..
