Have you thought about using a sacrificial board underneath you work to cut into rather than raise it it in the air? It seems easier and a bit safer perhaps?
Yes, I have thought about using rigid foam board as a sacrificial board. Unfortunately, I do not have a way to move a 4'x8' sheet of the foam board, I'd need to cut it much smaller to get into my small car for transport. So hopefully, the next time you see me use a circular saw, I'll be using a home made guide (that requires less measuring to use) on top of some sacrificial foam board.
