Not only am I going for the log, but I'm also going for Little Zuk's "molten" reskin (requires 200 hardmode kc to unlock). 😎 I have no desire to return to hardmode afterwards, since it'll just be repetitive from there. 😂 I hope Zuk has been equally as nice to you! 👀
Dude, you don't even have to expedition to finish the entire MSQ line, and the "soul trials" are so easy, I've done all of them naked. I've ran regular randoms, where 650+ GS players, have no clue where to go in EVERY expedition, ALL of them, there is at least 1 guy, who is completely lost, because he or she has never done it. They do one low level dungeon, then they can jump into a mute. This is compounded by console players, who for them, may possibly be the first real MMO they have ever played. In addition to this MMO playing differently than 90% of the MMOs out there. Healers think they are only responsible for healing, Tanks think they stand in one place, DPS think it's the healers job to keep them alive, the standard MMO tropes that don't apply to new world due to it's mechanics. . Just accept these people will be in all M1s, and the M1 challenge is the other players, not the game. Also, if you are a M3/M10 veteran, you and two other people on your level should be able to drag the worthless randos to victory. Rando Ms solo at your own risk, and as a healer, be prepared to carry the group.
As a tank main. Ranged dps pulling everything before I'm anywhere near it drives me mad. You see them running around me hoping I can grab the aggro. Standard rules apply here. You pull it, you tank it
Great video. There is such a huge difference in the difficulty of runs where people understand these basic tips. Nothing feels worse as a tank/healer watching your team die one by one because someone pulled agro before cooldowns pop. I personally enjoy giving new players a chance to learn so there’s less gatekeeping at the endgame and this is a great resource. 👍👍
As a tank that can solo m2s... i say in voice or type "if I'm pulling and haven't taunted do not heal or attack unless you want to die. I'm not chasing you or mobs anywhere."
@tonykeally1039 frigid dawn set with void dark plate artifact and bloodrinker artifact as well. Add health to the frigid dawn set at the gypsum kiln. Also use invigorating bulwark perk with a electrified carnelian runeglass for sns. It regens your stamina per tick of the lightning damage after using shield rush/bash. Thats the basics
OMG thank you the very first tip is BIG. You NEED to let your tank get agro! Makes me so mad when some random ranger pulls all the mods away from the tank before he gets to them.
Hmm just need a ranged that know what they're doing, and If you think the running melee-only group, in M2 or M3 count on a frustrating time, because there likely going to get blown up as your heal aren't going to save them in multiple mechanics. With ranged you just need to understand your on an island of self-preservation. but with ranged you have an xtra life many times, I've seen so many melle groups get blown up in a few seconds and ranged had to revive the team to move on, especially on GT 2+. Ranged just need to wait for the group up of mobs by then the taunts are in place then drop the Aoe's, and get going. I like running Enfeebling Skewer on my spear as a Boltcaster user, so if something does get on you it's an easy solo or easy to bring to the tank on M1-3 since its damage is reduced by 50%.
I’ve been running expeditions for a long time and almost every melee only group I’ve been in I’ve loved 🥰 BUT like I said there’s nothing wrong with playing how you want. Like you said playing ranged requires a different mindset and they just need to understand what to do and it’s fine 😊❤️

I tried voting a DPS out for continuing to pull mobs from other parts of the dungeon all the way to me. After the second time, and a failed vote, I straight up left them.
It doesn't help when people who are fully geared and are familiar with mutes just run ahead in m1s and m2s and start doing everything without explaining things to new people. Healers tanking, skipping mobs etc because they find it super easy. We need to teach the new players what to do and why or they will never learn. As a dps I try to explain stuff if I know we have new people in the group but a lot of people don't say they are new, don't read chat or don't have in game VC on. It's very frustrating. But great video. :)
Bow user here. I love my tanks & always do my best to wait for them to pull everything first. If I accidentally pull something, then out comes the spear and/or I bring it to the party. It's not hard. Sorry in behalf of my colleagues
@AshShleyScape thx, rain of arrows, explosive arrow and poison shot, arboreal gem setup buffs the poison and by the time I switch to rapier they're ticking for bleed, poison, and fire at the same time.
I've been getting so many comments for playing musket lifetaker lmao. I smack on wards and coatings and I'm constantly throwing sticky bombs, I also find that I'm normally the only one with a protection amulet and gems. My distained infliction lifetaker musket build is dope and lowering armor of anything I'm shooting by 30% is also insane.

If you know what you’re doing you can use anything. I hate that videos like this (no offense to the creator) make people even more likely to judge people for what they’re using before even seeing them play.
If you know what you’re doing, then yeah, play what you want.. her comments are spot on, especially for new players.. I play with flail lifestaff because I know how and I’ve been playing since launch and I need to try new things.. I also play musket/rapier dex/int build with 15 con but only when I know which mobs/expeditions take more damage from thrust.. (do you know which ones? most people don’t) and I have the proper perks and abilities to where I can drop 30-40k dmg with musket in a few seconds and rarely pull agro or get one shotted. Lastly, the overall way AGS has built the PVE content is that it favors clumping and melee DPS.. and if you ever want to do well in higher mutations and raids, leave the ranged weapons out, unless the content/mechanics call for it.. either that or play PVP
@robnewman19 the rend from lifetaker and the penetration through targets more than makes up for ranges downsides, especially with the buff to lethal combo. And clumping is fine especially with sticky nades. Being at empower cap with elemental band after one power shot is also insane. And don't forget the amount of survivability that comes from being ranged as well, you can literally see everything and dodge everything. You're more than likely going to survive anything thrown at you simply because you can see. Each shot is like 12k + dots that can be hitting 500+ per tick and you can stack distained infliction on top with sighted gems with attunements/keenly/ele runeglass gem/lifetaker/powder. Just use the Stat pants and you can easily reach a 350 250 int dex with 25 str and 50 con, and then you just smack on wards and coatings with a protection amulet matching the mutator. Enchanted ward and elemental aversion makes up for the rest, and if you really need more resist just slot in more gems into the jewelery. The only thing that'll ruin the build is the phalanx modifier and that's literally it.
Aw - if they didn’t say anything I’m sure they didn’t think it was you! It’s pretty easy to tell if it’s DPS/healer pulling or tank that doesn’t hold aggro.
When I was playing WoW 15 years ago, people needed to hear this when it came to groups. You are absolutely right. I've been tanking all types of games for over a decade. This is a breath of fresh air to hear this. People need to listen, especially you range DPS (Bow Users, lol). Let the tank do his job. You won't kill any faster if the tank doesn't hold the group. I promise you, the tank will not DPS that mob down. That's everyone else is job. Protect your healer at all costs. If you pull it, RUN TO THE TANK, NOT THE HEALER. If the healer is good, they will heal you. But not before the tank. Tank is #1 when it's comes to heals. Melee DPS watch out for mobs getting aggro from the Heals. Protect your healer. I love games like this.
also i understand the wait for everyone thing i had a faction quest in a expedition and while i was doing it they started the boss ( i was the healer) and they barely beat it (the tank was the last man standing and had ~20% health)
As a tank main I have to completely agree with this video. Nothing more infuriating than running around trying to taunt everything, while ranged dps just shoots whatever they see in sight. Also I find sword and shield+ flail the best tank setup in terms of grabbing the aggro. Flail doesn’t dps much but oh boy, it sure grabs a lot of enemies around.

The amount of bad takes people have in this comment section is actually wild. The suggestions she's giving us literally the basics, people just getting mad because their bad builds are being called out. Ranged DPS is bad DPS in expeditions. Don't believe me? Check literally every single speed run expedition or raid. We don't run ANY of that except for very niche builds (for example the cleanser in hive of gorgon or lights players for worm). Go ahead and play ranged, just don't expect to clear quick, also.. Bosses have mechanics against ranged players as well just fyi. Many bosses will do mechanics to target the farthest player, for example of glacial tarn, the trip boss will charge you every time if you're further than 10m of him, making it harder for everyone else, especially for melee because we have to go chase, making the fight a lot longer.
Great video and tips for players new to mmos. I always played super hard on games like apex, cod and fps games in general i play on console so i thought id give it try when it released for us. New world is my first mmo game, dont get me wrong played other pve games and love build crafting as i get super nerdy about it, but theres lots to learn in terms of the dynamics of the game and team work is a lot different in this game as other games its about being able to hold your own and do your job. This game you have to work a lot more as a team ive noticed which was difficult to adapt too at first. So I think information being put out to peple thats super helpful to learn from is great. 🎉

@@AshShleyScape as a tank the amount of time I am 1 second away from taunting a pack of mobs and some idiot shoots it and the whole mobs starts running around is insane. I think they are doing it on purpose now because it happens so much. And they get worse if you call them out and belligerent. These are what you call griefers, their idea of fun is griefing other players to the max. I try to block them because hopefully they don't get grouped up with me in the future, don't know if it works though.

Hey! When I run a lot of different expeditions or even when switching between PvP and PVE frequently that’s exactly what I do - opals with protection amulets 😊❤️ The gem swapping can seriously get out of control otherwise 😅

I'm new to the game, I don't know hardly any of the expeditions. I just follow everyone else and don't hit anything that isn't being hit, don't stand in anything colored 😂 (how many times I've rolled out of the fire mages buff circle... just learned about that). If I do pull aggro, I run it back to the middle and dodge accordingly (bow user)
I F-ed up the other day and ran boldly into Tempest Heart M1 with all my Wurm gear on and didn't realize it until I screwed the run for everyone. Stuck with me all day. Needless to say, they were pissed. 😬

All great points!! i will say tho, can we also talk about toxic healers that straight dont heal dps like at all and just focus on themselves while letting everyone else including the tank die? Or other ones that just simply font heal and focus on doing damage in M2boss fights and cause wipe after wipe from doing it?
You'd think with the years and years of MMO's being a thing we would have learnt that 1. DPS'ing when a tank is in the middle of a pull is one of the silliest things to do. 2. Changing builds after que pop is a wild move to do. 3. Seeing other Healer's run medium/heavy can make any party just leave. Those are just a few really bad things I've experienced.. As a healer (preferably) but I have tanked/dps back during the release of Angry Earth and I quit doing Dungeons / raids / PvP due to the fact I never found a company or the few friends who do/did play always quit. Which leaves me with Pubs and I have 0 trust in randoms.. I haven't played NW since Angry Earth, and just a couple days ago I started playing again as the season is ending.
Yeah the not waiting for tank to pull isn’t specific to nw so it’s baffling every time I see a bow or fireball fly above my head while we’re pulling 😂💀
Solid advice! Is Flail and life staff really that bad for a healer though? i have watched about 4 other videos as im newish to the game and just tryna better educate my self on how to not hinder my team and all of them had flail as a top tier alternative to VG?
The flail and lifestaff comment was for people queuing as dps with that build 😅 but the most common LS pair is definitely VG in PVE because the VG abilities pair nicely with dps support. I love a flail secondary with LS in PvP it’s so fun. Definitely not a flail hater! 😊❤️
Oh and about the bussy, two of the best dps players ive ever had run with me. Were bussy mains. If used correctly the bussy does insane dmg. Bussy and finisher is a solid combo if used right. Bussy firestaff is just as good if you have alot of adds.
I think the biggest problem is exactly that - not knowing how to maximize dps for the weapons they’re bringing. Most weapons can do decent damage if kitted correctly but unfortunately most don’t 😊
Healer here and they definitely make keeping everyone alive a difficult task. I've swapped to a clap healer. With splash at least I can pop a whole party heal for 3-5k with breeze ticks a couple times a minute to keep the range players topped off. Also I don't understand gathering in a mutation. Why are we waiting while you gather a 10c node in a mutation? You get a time bonus don't waste time. If you want to gather go in to the woods alone.
The devs have kind of created this issue by not forcing new players and let’s be honest that’s mostly console players through expeditions as they’re leveling, aswell as making level 65s need to go through low level expeditions for faction quests or artifect quests, so the new players get paired with a level 65 who’s bulldozing through and not explaining mechanics and kicks if Timmy is opening a chest or asking how this puzzle works or whatever, I don’t remeber expeditions being anywhere near as toxic as what they are now, even back in the 1-10 mutations days
They’ve been extremely toxic lately it’s so sad 😞 and yeah I was surprised to see they even cut out the early expeditions from the MSQ. Especially now with cross server lobbies we should be required to run at least some of them while leveling 😩
Each expedition has strategic points where the tank can group up the most mobs, for instance, in glacial tarn there is no point fighting any mobs without the fire on you so each fire vent is great place to pull to. Ironically it is the very people who think they are speeding up the dungeon by aggroing who are actually making it take much longer than it should, even longer than one mob at a time. The sad part is they 'get it' but are doing it on purpose to grief everyone.
Ranger here, don't know how so many dps struggle with this lol. I just wait for the tank to gather everything and taunt, drop my bow AoEs, and then swap to spear for debuffs and clump damage
Aww, somebody doenst know how to use a flail. Flail w sield/VG with void blade for a battle cleric. Melee dmg plus AoE heals and buffs. Takes the pressure off the Main heal by reducing incoming dmg to melee, buffing dmg output. The problem isnt the flail, its people who use it as a backup to the LS. When it comes to pacing - Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Dying and respawning is slower than solid, paced progress.
What the???? This is the most cope comment I've seen. You NEVER run more than 1 support class in ANY MMO in a 5 player content. An off heal? Slow is smooth? Going slow generally means that adds more layers to how much more people will mess up.
I’ve done flail life staff as a healer. I’m not quite sure why this wouldn’t work. I understand the DPS thing running that. I do void/ flail as DPS. I know it isn’t common but it works.

Ive been seeing a lot of goofy stuff recently, Tanks running blunderbuss main, healers dpsing and trying to only heal once everyone is low, dps not waiting for tank, tanks afraid to charge in first. Random expeditions have been scary 😂

Same old story in every MMO I’ve ever played. The very first, baby thing that needs to be learned by DPS is that when you are playing group content, contrary to your instincts as a person who always chooses to play DPS, you do NOT uncork your big-d DPS abilities at or near the start of a pull. When in doubt do NOTHING - nothing is often more helpful. Count to five or something. Try a little foreplay for Gods sake. So simple to explain, so hard to learn for some people. Spending hundreds and hundreds of hours as a healer paying attention to the overall dynamics at the group level and knowing exactly who is pulling aggro, and when, you learn how to quickly recognize a particular person that doesn’t get it, even if it doesn’t lead to constant wipes. I wish I could also tell you I have figured out a quick way to get them to change their ways.
pristine opal in all armour slots + protection amu brings you through m1+2. m3 needs the mentioned prep like wardpots/coatings and gems against the mutation in every possible slot. Also get good perks on your gear. you want enchanted ward + any conditioning especially as tank or heal. but also dps should take advantage of those. - Know your role - Know the mechanics - know your skill. if you slack often at mechanics add some con to your build to survive. dead = 0 dps. if you feel comfi adjust. - be honost if you need guidance - High GS doesnt mean automatically you got good gear. Good Perks on 675+ > 725 random garbage - ffs dont queue up if you arent gear for your role - same goes if you wanna finish gorgon or any other raid
I've had to explain exactly this to so many people! I wish Expeditions had leaderboards with stats for dps/heals etc. Not for bragging rights, but for individual monitoring and growth. The best dps can't always be "glass cannons". Uptime is crucial ❤
This is basically MMO Dungeon etiquette 101 my only question is why all the bow hate? I've been a ranged class in every MMO I've played. I do think Amazon needs to add a misdirection skill to give the tank the ranged threat. I know the rapier has high damage but I really hate it. I already have a melee character. I have a ranged as well guess I just wont run expeditions with them. There is a rumor that crossbows are coming to the game in season 7.

I literally force disconnected from the game mid run. I'm a tank and I'm tired of some giga meta dps pulling aggro first. Between many of the bugs in the game, random dps deciding to aggro first, many players not having a clue to what to do and though that's not the problem, the concern is they're not reading chat, nor do they respond when I use voice chat.
I had someone yesterday in mutation.. "bow / firestaff" and when i ask him he told us "yeah my fs need to xp". Result : bow take aggro all along and his fs was useless so. When i said "k.." he said "ok ok" back like i was annoying. FOR GOD SAKE don't lvl up your weapons in mutations and run with only 1 useless weapon

bad dps pull before tank, bad tanks don't taunt ranged, and bad healers die trying to melee dps with their voidblade more than they heal. There are ways each role can debilitate their party, and it's up to you to ensure that's you are providing as much as you can. instead of people focusing on bashing others for how they run their role, people should focus on how they can better run theirs. Musket projectiles shoot through all enemy targets, which means in a large pull they'll dish out about 30k-60k DMG (depending on gear) to every target in the pull before switching to their other weapon; meanwhile, strict melee dps only maybe attack half of it depending on the weapon and its reach. AT THAT SAME POINT, a musket player has to be extremely aware of line of sight, as their projectiles could accidently pull another group by accident. That being said, Shaming people for running musket is disingenuous. Also, not sure if you meant to discredit DEX weapons right before suggesting Rapier (3:11), and inferring that blunderbuss is a dex weapon (it is not) in the same sentence makes me seriously question if you're just regurgitating 2nd hand advice or was a genuine mistake you didn't catch in editing. In conclusion, I think you should've focused a guide video more on general things like what mutations there are, how difficult m1 is from regular and m1 to m2, how mutations cahnge how you approach a pull (Frenzied, Barbaric etc.) and so on. if mutations with randoms don't go well, you should ask yourself how you (yourself) could've done better, rather than blame it on anyone else and suggest you did nothing wrong; and more importantly, callout your mistakes and be willing to accept criticism if you don't.
Yes I meant to say range not dex at 3:11 it happens 👍🏽 I’m only human after all. A general guide about what mutations are and where they are does nothing to help the real problems people experience. And yes - it’s quite possible that only one person is making the dungeon rough. It’s not always a team effort usually you don’t need to look at yourself, you need to look at the musket user 😜
m1 tarn didnt give me problems, m2 tarn on the other hand was like pulling teeth, everyone wants to speedrun it and im fine with that but 90% of tanks would run past all the mobs in that long hall before 1st boss without grabbing aggro then they would turn and 1 shot the healer or a dps when the tank got too far away then the healer rages and leavesmaking us to sit in a backfill que or disband nut after that hallway the rest of the dungeon is ezpz
That long hall before the first boss is a diabolical mess of a big pull in an M2 (even sketchy in M1s sometimes) and definitely should be taken waaay slower than in an M1 😂💀
Kinda like how everyone should work retail for a year everyone should be required to do some tanking and healing in MMO’s. I highly doubt any of these folks understand they are even doing anything wrong and I’m sure plenty of them would be mortified after trying to rank a dungeon. I always try and politely guide them in the right direction if I can

There’s probably 3 tanks and 2 healers only on our server. Some of the people queuing as tanks are worse than me with 0 con…. ……….. too much freedom is never good 😂 Last one we did I kept getting agro on the boss from the tank because the way he tank was just keeping the shield up 😂😂😂😂😂 I don’t agree on your point about Musket or BB being useless. I’m running Musket + lifetaker. Consrant 30% rend and 13-19k shots / skills. You can’t tell me melee is king only, that mentality is also toxic for the game 🎉 It comes down to people in the end and some will be good with one and other with another. I rather have a shit bow dps that stays alive than a monster GS dps that can’t dodge and dies 5-15 secs into the battle 😂
To tell people hey you need to run this particular build, is why most mmos become stagnant. It’s how they want to play the game and as long as it’s not a M3 let them. It’s so interesting to tell people how to play their game lol. Play whatever you want within reason, but you just told them to literally use only Melee… if you want perfect runs then stick to premade lol
I get where you’re coming from but from someone who enjoys the hard content but NOT banging my head against a wall, and didn’t know what to do, or what setups are good for THESE activities specifically, sharing this info is great and very helpful and informative. I don’t want to be holding my group back even if it’s just a public matchmaking session. So some people appreciate this info greatly fyi. And she was very nice and not toxic about it. Js people like you w a poor attitude also contribute to ruining the fun.
I find the problem lately being tanks… tanks don’t hold Aggro, and die often. You can’t just run through the instance to grab everything and hope for the best. Love my fire staff/void build and always bring pots. Two of dungeons today, everyone died and I had the final kill. Also! Would never go off on anybody in an expedition and those people are weird 😂
I’ve also noticed a problem with some tanks holding aggro and being a little squishy - I almost made a tanking guide because of it actually 😅 maybe I should revisit the thought 🤔 Also yeah it’s WILD the amount of arguing and nastiness I’ve seen recently. I just want everyone to get along 🥺 or at least be cordial l0l

This is 200% my experience. They go in start running because maybe they saw a TH-camr doing it once, but their gear is not good enough for the task and they end up wasting peoples time rather than killing the groups as they come, making it much faster and safer option.

Dude, you don't even have to expedition to finish the entire MSQ line, and the "soul trials" are so easy, I've done all of them naked. I've ran regular randoms, where 650+ GS players, have no clue where to go in EVERY expedition, ALL of them, there is at least 1 guy, who is completely lost, because he or she has never done it. They do one low level dungeon, then they can jump into a mute. This is compounded by console players, who for them, may possibly be the first real MMO they have ever played. In addition to this MMO playing differently than 90% of the MMOs out there. Healers think they are only responsible for healing, Tanks think they stand in one place, DPS think it's the healers job to keep them alive, the standard MMO tropes that don't apply to new world due to it's mechanics.

Just accept these people will be in all M1s, and the M1 challenge is the other players, not the game. Also, if you are a M3/M10 veteran, you and two other people on your level should be able to drag the worthless randos to victory. Rando Ms solo at your own risk, and as a healer, be prepared to carry the group.
I'm a tank and this speaks VOLUMES. The amount of time I get blamed for not taking aggro when ranged dps shoots the enemy first is insane.

Great video. There is such a huge difference in the difficulty of runs where people understand these basic tips. Nothing feels worse as a tank/healer watching your team die one by one because someone pulled agro before cooldowns pop. I personally enjoy giving new players a chance to learn so there’s less gatekeeping at the endgame and this is a great resource. 👍👍

As a tank that can solo m2s... i say in voice or type "if I'm pulling and haven't taunted do not heal or attack unless you want to die. I'm not chasing you or mobs anywhere."
Also, opals are good up to m2 if you don't want to gem swap all the time, new players.

@tonykeally1039 frigid dawn set with void dark plate artifact and bloodrinker artifact as well. Add health to the frigid dawn set at the gypsum kiln. Also use invigorating bulwark perk with a electrified carnelian runeglass for sns. It regens your stamina per tick of the lightning damage after using shield rush/bash. Thats the basics

Hmm just need a ranged that know what they're doing, and If you think the running melee-only group, in M2 or M3 count on a frustrating time, because there likely going to get blown up as your heal aren't going to save them in multiple mechanics.
With ranged you just need to understand your on an island of self-preservation. but with ranged you have an xtra life many times, I've seen so many melle groups get blown up in a few seconds and ranged had to revive the team to move on, especially on GT 2+.
Ranged just need to wait for the group up of mobs by then the taunts are in place then drop the Aoe's, and get going.
I like running Enfeebling Skewer on my spear as a Boltcaster user, so if something does get on you it's an easy solo or easy to bring to the tank on M1-3 since its damage is reduced by 50%.
And snare on Cyclone, makes it much safer to bring a mob to the tank or just deal with.
I’ve been running expeditions for a long time and almost every melee only group I’ve been in I’ve loved 🥰 BUT like I said there’s nothing wrong with playing how you want. Like you said playing ranged requires a different mindset and they just need to understand what to do and it’s fine 😊❤️

I tried voting a DPS out for continuing to pull mobs from other parts of the dungeon all the way to me. After the second time, and a failed vote, I straight up left them.

It doesn't help when people who are fully geared and are familiar with mutes just run ahead in m1s and m2s and start doing everything without explaining things to new people. Healers tanking, skipping mobs etc because they find it super easy. We need to teach the new players what to do and why or they will never learn. As a dps I try to explain stuff if I know we have new people in the group but a lot of people don't say they are new, don't read chat or don't have in game VC on. It's very frustrating. But great video. :)
Yeah I’ve tried to explain when I notice that there’s someone new and I mostly get ignored - I always assume they aren’t reading chat 😅
Bow user here. I love my tanks & always do my best to wait for them to pull everything first. If I accidentally pull something, then out comes the spear and/or I bring it to the party.

I only use a bow to DOT large groups, syncretic bow woth the arboreal setup, AFTER, the tank groups them up for me. Then immediately switch to rapier.

@AshShleyScape thx, rain of arrows, explosive arrow and poison shot, arboreal gem setup buffs the poison and by the time I switch to rapier they're ticking for bleed, poison, and fire at the same time.
I've been getting so many comments for playing musket lifetaker lmao. I smack on wards and coatings and I'm constantly throwing sticky bombs, I also find that I'm normally the only one with a protection amulet and gems. My distained infliction lifetaker musket build is dope and lowering armor of anything I'm shooting by 30% is also insane.

If you know what you’re doing you can use anything. I hate that videos like this (no offense to the creator) make people even more likely to judge people for what they’re using before even seeing them play.
If you know what you’re doing, then yeah, play what you want.. her comments are spot on, especially for new players.. I play with flail lifestaff because I know how and I’ve been playing since launch and I need to try new things.. I also play musket/rapier dex/int build with 15 con but only when I know which mobs/expeditions take more damage from thrust.. (do you know which ones? most people don’t) and I have the proper perks and abilities to where I can drop 30-40k dmg with musket in a few seconds and rarely pull agro or get one shotted. Lastly, the overall way AGS has built the PVE content is that it favors clumping and melee DPS.. and if you ever want to do well in higher mutations and raids, leave the ranged weapons out, unless the content/mechanics call for it.. either that or play PVP
@robnewman19 the rend from lifetaker and the penetration through targets more than makes up for ranges downsides, especially with the buff to lethal combo. And clumping is fine especially with sticky nades. Being at empower cap with elemental band after one power shot is also insane. And don't forget the amount of survivability that comes from being ranged as well, you can literally see everything and dodge everything. You're more than likely going to survive anything thrown at you simply because you can see. Each shot is like 12k + dots that can be hitting 500+ per tick and you can stack distained infliction on top with sighted gems with attunements/keenly/ele runeglass gem/lifetaker/powder. Just use the Stat pants and you can easily reach a 350 250 int dex with 25 str and 50 con, and then you just smack on wards and coatings with a protection amulet matching the mutator. Enchanted ward and elemental aversion makes up for the rest, and if you really need more resist just slot in more gems into the jewelery. The only thing that'll ruin the build is the phalanx modifier and that's literally it.
I ran a mut 2 today and the mobs would randomly agro to me on some pulls. I'm sure everyone thought I was shooting or something.

As someone frequently solos these as a healer/tank/dps hybrid, I feel like we can all agree that its always the bow users fault.

When I was playing WoW 15 years ago, people needed to hear this when it came to groups. You are absolutely right. I've been tanking all types of games for over a decade. This is a breath of fresh air to hear this. People need to listen, especially you range DPS (Bow Users, lol). Let the tank do his job. You won't kill any faster if the tank doesn't hold the group. I promise you, the tank will not DPS that mob down. That's everyone else is job. Protect your healer at all costs. If you pull it, RUN TO THE TANK, NOT THE HEALER. If the healer is good, they will heal you. But not before the tank. Tank is #1 when it's comes to heals. Melee DPS watch out for mobs getting aggro from the Heals. Protect your healer. I love games like this.

As a tank main I have to completely agree with this video. Nothing more infuriating than running around trying to taunt everything, while ranged dps just shoots whatever they see in sight.
Also I find sword and shield+ flail the best tank setup in terms of grabbing the aggro. Flail doesn’t dps much but oh boy, it sure grabs a lot of enemies around.

The amount of bad takes people have in this comment section is actually wild.
The suggestions she's giving us literally the basics, people just getting mad because their bad builds are being called out. Ranged DPS is bad DPS in expeditions. Don't believe me? Check literally every single speed run expedition or raid. We don't run ANY of that except for very niche builds (for example the cleanser in hive of gorgon or lights players for worm).
Go ahead and play ranged, just don't expect to clear quick, also.. Bosses have mechanics against ranged players as well just fyi. Many bosses will do mechanics to target the farthest player, for example of glacial tarn, the trip boss will charge you every time if you're further than 10m of him, making it harder for everyone else, especially for melee because we have to go chase, making the fight a lot longer.

Great video and tips for players new to mmos. I always played super hard on games like apex, cod and fps games in general i play on console so i thought id give it try when it released for us. New world is my first mmo game, dont get me wrong played other pve games and love build crafting as i get super nerdy about it, but theres lots to learn in terms of the dynamics of the game and team work is a lot different in this game as other games its about being able to hold your own and do your job. This game you have to work a lot more as a team ive noticed which was difficult to adapt too at first. So I think information being put out to peple thats super helpful to learn from is great. 🎉

These are what you call griefers, their idea of fun is griefing other players to the max. I try to block them because hopefully they don't get grouped up with me in the future, don't know if it works though.

Hey! When I run a lot of different expeditions or even when switching between PvP and PVE frequently that’s exactly what I do - opals with protection amulets 😊❤️ The gem swapping can seriously get out of control otherwise 😅

I'm new to the game, I don't know hardly any of the expeditions. I just follow everyone else and don't hit anything that isn't being hit, don't stand in anything colored 😂 (how many times I've rolled out of the fire mages buff circle... just learned about that). If I do pull aggro, I run it back to the middle and dodge accordingly (bow user)

I use boltcaster/syncretic musket. Bow=aoe, Musket with topaz is my single target and I do pretty well on dps so I do think it’s a valid play style.
Most things can be decent or better if they’re spec’d right 😊

All great points!! i will say tho, can we also talk about toxic healers that straight dont heal dps like at all and just focus on themselves while letting everyone else including the tank die? Or other ones that just simply font heal and focus on doing damage in M2boss fights and cause wipe after wipe from doing it?

You'd think with the years and years of MMO's being a thing we would have learnt that
1. DPS'ing when a tank is in the middle of a pull is one of the silliest things to do.
2. Changing builds after que pop is a wild move to do.
3. Seeing other Healer's run medium/heavy can make any party just leave.
Those are just a few really bad things I've experienced.. As a healer (preferably) but I have tanked/dps back during the release of Angry Earth and I quit doing Dungeons / raids / PvP due to the fact I never found a company or the few friends who do/did play always quit. Which leaves me with Pubs and I have 0 trust in randoms.. I haven't played NW since Angry Earth, and just a couple days ago I started playing again as the season is ending.
Yeah the not waiting for tank to pull isn’t specific to nw so it’s baffling every time I see a bow or fireball fly above my head while we’re pulling 😂💀
Solid advice! Is Flail and life staff really that bad for a healer though? i have watched about 4 other videos as im newish to the game and just tryna better educate my self on how to not hinder my team and all of them had flail as a top tier alternative to VG?
The flail and lifestaff comment was for people queuing as dps with that build 😅 but the most common LS pair is definitely VG in PVE because the VG abilities pair nicely with dps support.
I love a flail secondary with LS in PvP it’s so fun. Definitely not a flail hater! 😊❤️

Oh and about the bussy, two of the best dps players ive ever had run with me. Were bussy mains. If used correctly the bussy does insane dmg. Bussy and finisher is a solid combo if used right. Bussy firestaff is just as good if you have alot of adds.
I think the biggest problem is exactly that - not knowing how to maximize dps for the weapons they’re bringing. Most weapons can do decent damage if kitted correctly but unfortunately most don’t 😊
Healer here and they definitely make keeping everyone alive a difficult task. I've swapped to a clap healer. With splash at least I can pop a whole party heal for 3-5k with breeze ticks a couple times a minute to keep the range players topped off. Also I don't understand gathering in a mutation. Why are we waiting while you gather a 10c node in a mutation? You get a time bonus don't waste time. If you want to gather go in to the woods alone.

The devs have kind of created this issue by not forcing new players and let’s be honest that’s mostly console players through expeditions as they’re leveling, aswell as making level 65s need to go through low level expeditions for faction quests or artifect quests, so the new players get paired with a level 65 who’s bulldozing through and not explaining mechanics and kicks if Timmy is opening a chest or asking how this puzzle works or whatever, I don’t remeber expeditions being anywhere near as toxic as what they are now, even back in the 1-10 mutations days
They’ve been extremely toxic lately it’s so sad 😞 and yeah I was surprised to see they even cut out the early expeditions from the MSQ. Especially now with cross server lobbies we should be required to run at least some of them while leveling 😩

Each expedition has strategic points where the tank can group up the most mobs, for instance, in glacial tarn there is no point fighting any mobs without the fire on you so each fire vent is great place to pull to.
Ironically it is the very people who think they are speeding up the dungeon by aggroing who are actually making it take much longer than it should, even longer than one mob at a time. The sad part is they 'get it' but are doing it on purpose to grief everyone.
Ranger here, don't know how so many dps struggle with this lol. I just wait for the tank to gather everything and taunt, drop my bow AoEs, and then swap to spear for debuffs and clump damage

Aww, somebody doenst know how to use a flail.
Flail w sield/VG with void blade for a battle cleric. Melee dmg plus AoE heals and buffs. Takes the pressure off the Main heal by reducing incoming dmg to melee, buffing dmg output. The problem isnt the flail, its people who use it as a backup to the LS.
When it comes to pacing - Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
Dying and respawning is slower than solid, paced progress.

I’ve done flail life staff as a healer. I’m not quite sure why this wouldn’t work. I understand the DPS thing running that. I do void/ flail as DPS. I know it isn’t common but it works.

Ive been seeing a lot of goofy stuff recently, Tanks running blunderbuss main, healers dpsing and trying to only heal once everyone is low, dps not waiting for tank, tanks afraid to charge in first. Random expeditions have been scary 😂

@@AshShleyScape I always start by saying 'hi' and have noticed that if no one says anything back it will be a difficult run, and the run is better based on how many people respond. The friendlier the group the better we do.
Same old story in every MMO I’ve ever played. The very first, baby thing that needs to be learned by DPS is that when you are playing group content, contrary to your instincts as a person who always chooses to play DPS, you do NOT uncork your big-d DPS abilities at or near the start of a pull. When in doubt do NOTHING - nothing is often more helpful. Count to five or something. Try a little foreplay for Gods sake. So simple to explain, so hard to learn for some people. Spending hundreds and hundreds of hours as a healer paying attention to the overall dynamics at the group level and knowing exactly who is pulling aggro, and when, you learn how to quickly recognize a particular person that doesn’t get it, even if it doesn’t lead to constant wipes. I wish I could also tell you I have figured out a quick way to get them to change their ways.

pristine opal in all armour slots + protection amu brings you through m1+2. m3 needs the mentioned prep like wardpots/coatings and gems against the mutation in every possible slot. Also get good perks on your gear. you want enchanted ward + any conditioning especially as tank or heal. but also dps should take advantage of those.
- Know your role
- Know the mechanics
- know your skill. if you slack often at mechanics add some con to your build to survive. dead = 0 dps. if you feel comfi adjust.
- be honost if you need guidance
- High GS doesnt mean automatically you got good gear. Good Perks on 675+ > 725 random garbage
- ffs dont queue up if you arent gear for your role
- same goes if you wanna finish gorgon or any other raid

I've had to explain exactly this to so many people! I wish Expeditions had leaderboards with stats for dps/heals etc. Not for bragging rights, but for individual monitoring and growth. The best dps can't always be "glass cannons". Uptime is crucial ❤

This is basically MMO Dungeon etiquette 101 my only question is why all the bow hate? I've been a ranged class in every MMO I've played. I do think Amazon needs to add a misdirection skill to give the tank the ranged threat. I know the rapier has high damage but I really hate it. I already have a melee character. I have a ranged as well guess I just wont run expeditions with them. There is a rumor that crossbows are coming to the game in season 7.

I literally force disconnected from the game mid run. I'm a tank and I'm tired of some giga meta dps pulling aggro first. Between many of the bugs in the game, random dps deciding to aggro first, many players not having a clue to what to do and though that's not the problem, the concern is they're not reading chat, nor do they respond when I use voice chat.
Ive also noticed a lack of communication and listening to each other unless they’re fighting or talking smack 😩

I had someone yesterday in mutation.. "bow / firestaff" and when i ask him he told us "yeah my fs need to xp". Result : bow take aggro all along and his fs was useless so. When i said "k.." he said "ok ok" back like i was annoying. FOR GOD SAKE don't lvl up your weapons in mutations and run with only 1 useless weapon

bad dps pull before tank, bad tanks don't taunt ranged, and bad healers die trying to melee dps with their voidblade more than they heal. There are ways each role can debilitate their party, and it's up to you to ensure that's you are providing as much as you can. instead of people focusing on bashing others for how they run their role, people should focus on how they can better run theirs. Musket projectiles shoot through all enemy targets, which means in a large pull they'll dish out about 30k-60k DMG (depending on gear) to every target in the pull before switching to their other weapon; meanwhile, strict melee dps only maybe attack half of it depending on the weapon and its reach. AT THAT SAME POINT, a musket player has to be extremely aware of line of sight, as their projectiles could accidently pull another group by accident. That being said, Shaming people for running musket is disingenuous. Also, not sure if you meant to discredit DEX weapons right before suggesting Rapier (3:11), and inferring that blunderbuss is a dex weapon (it is not) in the same sentence makes me seriously question if you're just regurgitating 2nd hand advice or was a genuine mistake you didn't catch in editing. In conclusion, I think you should've focused a guide video more on general things like what mutations there are, how difficult m1 is from regular and m1 to m2, how mutations cahnge how you approach a pull (Frenzied, Barbaric etc.) and so on. if mutations with randoms don't go well, you should ask yourself how you (yourself) could've done better, rather than blame it on anyone else and suggest you did nothing wrong; and more importantly, callout your mistakes and be willing to accept criticism if you don't.

A general guide about what mutations are and where they are does nothing to help the real problems people experience.
And yes - it’s quite possible that only one person is making the dungeon rough. It’s not always a team effort usually you don’t need to look at yourself, you need to look at the musket user 😜

m1 tarn didnt give me problems, m2 tarn on the other hand was like pulling teeth, everyone wants to speedrun it and im fine with that but 90% of tanks would run past all the mobs in that long hall before 1st boss without grabbing aggro then they would turn and 1 shot the healer or a dps when the tank got too far away then the healer rages and leavesmaking us to sit in a backfill que or disband nut after that hallway the rest of the dungeon is ezpz
That long hall before the first boss is a diabolical mess of a big pull in an M2 (even sketchy in M1s sometimes) and definitely should be taken waaay slower than in an M1 😂💀

Kinda like how everyone should work retail for a year everyone should be required to do some tanking and healing in MMO’s. I highly doubt any of these folks understand they are even doing anything wrong and I’m sure plenty of them would be mortified after trying to rank a dungeon. I always try and politely guide them in the right direction if I can
I think that’s a good suggestion! Everyone should try each role at least once if for nothing else to at least understand the team dynamics better 😊

lol I have 3 builds archer ,healer and tank,play depending on me team need 😅,I now sometimes dps play stpd moves but sometimes time tanks do crazy sht to lol ,no even talking of healers that only heal themselves 😂,but normal before blame other I talk to the team and explain what we’re doing bad so new player learn the game like we did long ago on pc because half of game content is team work.the seem way you need a tank you need a dps or healer to do the job

There’s probably 3 tanks and 2 healers only on our server. Some of the people queuing as tanks are worse than me with 0 con…. ……….. too much freedom is never good 😂 Last one we did I kept getting agro on the boss from the tank because the way he tank was just keeping the shield up 😂😂😂😂😂 I don’t agree on your point about Musket or BB being useless. I’m running Musket + lifetaker. Consrant 30% rend and 13-19k shots / skills. You can’t tell me melee is king only, that mentality is also toxic for the game 🎉 It comes down to people in the end and some will be good with one and other with another. I rather have a shit bow dps that stays alive than a monster GS dps that can’t dodge and dies 5-15 secs into the battle 😂

To tell people hey you need to run this particular build, is why most mmos become stagnant. It’s how they want to play the game and as long as it’s not a M3 let them. I get where you’re coming from but from someone who enjoys the hard content but NOT banging my head against a wall, and didn’t know what to do, or what setups are good for THESE activities specifically, sharing this info is great and very helpful and informative. I don’t want to be holding my group back even if it’s just a public matchmaking session. So some people appreciate this info greatly fyi. And she was very nice and not toxic about it. Js people like you w a poor attitude also contribute to ruining the fun.
I find the problem lately being tanks… tanks don’t hold Aggro, and die often. You can’t just run through the instance to grab everything and hope for the best. Love my fire staff/void build and always bring pots. Two of dungeons today, everyone died and I had the final kill.
Also! Would never go off on anybody in an expedition and those people are weird 😂
I’ve also noticed a problem with some tanks holding aggro and being a little squishy - I almost made a tanking guide because of it actually 😅 maybe I should revisit the thought 🤔

@ you totally should! I do get the frustration with ranged too though. As a ranged player majority of the time I smh 🤦♀️ when people run ahead of the tank lol 😂 there’s also balance too which can be tricky. Healers can have the same issue if you heal too much you’ll also grab Aggro if the tank isn’t Tanky enough. Fun video and look forward to more content 😊
This is 200% my experience. They go in start running because maybe they saw a TH-camr doing it once, but their gear is not good enough for the task and they end up wasting peoples time rather than killing the groups as they come, making it much faster and safer option.
