The easiest ceramic coating I've ever used - The Last Coat "Black Ice"

- A few things: I'm not sure how this coating will perform, long term. Also, I'm not going so far as to call this a "pro" coating. Because you don't have to be certified/trained/accredited etc. BUT, for the average consumer who wants to put a ceramic coating on their car - or maybe a few customer cars as you get started in your detailing business- this appears to be an excellent option:) And who knows?! If it impresses me, long term, I might make it part of an entry level package at my shop.

I am so impressed by black ice i put 3 coats on my parents suv and wow the slickness and gloss is insane! The suv looks and feels like a true professional 9h ceramic coating! This is truly the best and easiest and fastest paint sealant i have ever used! I am still blown away by the results!
How long do you wait in between Coates?
@@johnmiceter 1 hour
Just wanted to say thanks for all the help that you and few other TH-camrs gave ... I did a One Step today with TW hybrid polish and wax and doing the spray tomorrow ... felt very confident.. now I’m very sore .( You guys earn your money) I did the strip the detox ,,clayed ..then polished ..5 1/2 hours the old Van looks great ... going to do the new truck with this stuff ... again .... Thanks!
I bought 2 bottles when it first came, but I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Looks awesome. Thanks for doing the video on it
My thing with this stuff is it doesn't have to be a big production. Obviously polishing first is recommended, but a good wash clay paint prep and you have a stupid easy install and a slick/glossy ride😎
have you tried it yet?
@@HawkProDetailing no not yet. Hopefully soon
Looks great! ive always wanted to do a ceramic coating but I have stayed away because I am still learning and have always worried about messing up the application. But I think Ill pull the trigger and give this a shot
Such a great review, I've been on the fence about black ice, this was so helpful. I just bought a new car and really want to take great care of it. Thanks a lot!
Sure thing! I have used this on paying customer cars....and I think you should wait an hour and add a second layer...wait an hour and do a third...maybe even a fourth:) Why not if you have the time and then you will get best performance:) Try to clay bar the paint first at the very least because proper preparation is key to get best longevity out of any coating
Looks easy enough! Looking to use on my new Jeep Gladiator and was wondering is it safe to use on vinyl appliqués/stickers and fiberglass top. Also, during the 7 day cure time, must it remain dry and free of water/rain/sprinklers?
looks very eassy to apply thank you for sharde
I have this coating already, just waiting for the weather to break to apply to my 2014 MDX metallic gray. I will use 3D One to polish it out to perfection though
3D One is dang near all I use and you will love Black Ice!
I applied Black Ice to my 2020 Supra ten days ago. Being red the gloss is much more impressive than on your white test car. TLC says it needs seven days to fully cure and I can swear I could see the gloss improve during that cure time.Something else that TLC says is to throw away the towels and the applicator after you apply. What do think about that? There was no discernible change in the softness of the microfiber and this stuff certainly doesn't crystalize when exposed to air like some professional ceramic coatings.
Don't worry about the towels -- I say keep 'em. Isn't it awesome how easy it is to apply? I wouldn't ever tell people to expect the world from this coating...but for ease of application and instant gloss/slickness it is a winner! And there are no rules that say you can't apply it again in 3 months or whenever your heart desires....how many layers did you do? The TLC team says for best durability yiu should do at least two layers....spaced at least an hour apart
I just applied two coats to a Dodge Ram ... it was really easy ... I took your advise and didn’t over think as you told me not to ... going to let it sit over night in the garage ..then the wife says out it goes ...I did polish ... did a fallout remover .. I’m in a industrial area ...as you say it self levels ...this stuff disappears in front of your eyes ... as for slickness ...it’s good ..would I say great ... no ..but good ... I found the TW Ceramic coating to be more slick .... but for a 4 oz bottle ... I’m just under half with two coats on everything ... I’ll buy it again!
right? it's dummy easy, fun and gives you some shine and protection. so easy you could apply it as often as your little heart desires lol
It seems as though you liked this product. It is hard to make white cars really glossy, but this Tesla turned out nice without having to polish. I would have done at least a cleaner polish and then do the panel wipe. Nice review! Wilson Auto Detailing used this product with one of his jobs and he liked it as well. Thank you.
Would love a durability update on this! Thinking about offering this as a 1 year coating minimum with all my paint corrections.
My Z is at 9 months and going strong 💪 It's on my page
Put 2 coats on my 2016 Hyundai Elantra. Followed by a coat of Amp. Looks better than new.
heck yeah! super easy right
Turtle wax ceramic spray seems a better and WAY cheaper way to go. I love it.
Going to try this out just because of this video! 👍🏽👍🏽. Thanks for the discount code too brotha!
Let me know what you think! They didnt pay me for this video or anything I just think it's an easy ceramic to apply. Looking forward to testing its longevity...
Hawk Pro Detailing will do! Ready have two vehicles to try it one. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽. Thanks again for doing that review. Tesla came out lovely! Keep up the good work.
Hi…. What do you mean by paint prep? Also, what clay did you use? Do you think The Last Coat Clay Mitt is okay?
Paint prep is an alcohol based solution that you wipe on the panels just before you put the coating on to ensure there are no contaminants left on thesurface. And I haven't tried to their clay mitt yet but I'm sure it's great!
Did front of my daughters car with car pro 3.0, but ran out after doing wife’s car. Love TLC V2 so maybe I’ll use this to finish it out
Yessir! Dummy simple to use:)
What soap do you use to clean the vehicle 1st? If I'm gonna clay bar, does it matter if I first wash my truck with a wax soap? This will be my first time ever trying a coat
Use a basic soap that doesn't contain any wax or any wax or other protectant. It would not be bad if you did but it's going to get polished away so there is no need for it.
I’m a pia. ... gotta ask ..how’s the durability going since the video and would you use a topper on this ??
You could absolutely use a topper whenever you wash. Also, its so easy...why not re apply black ice every few months?? Just cause:)
If you already have last coat on the vehicle can you put that this over it ? nice job the car looks awesome
I’m mainly interested in gloss improvement, what’s your opinion?
I just bought the last coat 2.0, what is that for vs this black ice, because I thought the 2.0 does what the black ice does... if I end up having to buy the black ice, what goes 1st the 2.0 or the black ice
Hey nick !! Question- back in the mobile days how would you organize your towels?? I need your help. I currently use a big black bin and have all towels from interior to specialty towels for coatings. How should I organize them to save space and be more effective and efficient? Thanks
Oh man there are so many ways. I actually love the idea of folding your towels...with that said, I typically separate my window towels in one bin, my expensive exterior drying/polish removal towels in another, and my interior shop rag lower end towels in another. If you are mobile though bins can get clunky so you might consider at least the shop rags in a cloth sack or even garbage bag? Just to save space... but do what works for you:) I'm a pretty messy dude
Hawk Pro Detailing awesome thanks
Can Black Ice be used on a vehicle that has matte black stripes and wheels...or will it add a shine?
It won't really make it shiny but it will make the color appear deeper.
Almost reminds me of Ceramic Lite from Feynlab, for as easy as it is to level off missed high spots.
Nice, never tried it...so many great products out there:)
@@HawkProDetailing you honestly should. 38 bucks or so, Feynlabs only coating thats available to non pros.
Can I ask a stupid question ... if I were to use the same product year after year ... and the paint looks good ... if I were to just clean it off real good and do a clay bar ... would that be enough ... by worry would be doing a polish or compound once a year and eventually doing my clear coat damage ?? Thoughts ?
You would be totally fine. As long as you wash and clay, the product will work. Will it have the same longevity? No. But you could put it on every 6 months. Or 3 months. Whatever....what I mean is...you dont have to overthink this. What is the worst that can happen? That the product "fails" and you would need to re apply something else for protection:) At this price point it's really not a big deal...
Is that a right hand drive Tesla in Utah? What am I missing here?
Hi there!! How has the black ice been holding up?:) thanks!
pretty well...I noticed water beading after a month...and especially once I sprayed it down with iron remover the beading snapped right back. but I can tell it's not like THE BEST professional coating ever....nor is it designed to be. If you buy a bottle I might recommend applying it every couple of months. It's slick as heck, does what it advertises, and it won't hurt anything to do this since you're buying the whole bottle anyway. You can also just apply the last coat after washes or AMP as a drying aid and keep up the shine and water beading. My take is that it's a solid product and because it's so easy I highly recommend it for the weekend warrior. I also really like The Last Coat though...but don't feel it has as much durability as Black Ice. Also...there are a million products out there....I can't try them all...so who knows if there is a *better* coating that is also easy to install lol. I did two layers on a customer car after making this video....so wash, clay, paint prep (IPA wipe down to truly clean panel) then black ice...wait an hour...black ice. That's actually what they recommend -- 2 or 3 layers -- and I'll bet that one is holding up great.
Hawk Pro Detailing thanks for replying!! do u think it will stay true to its claim of at least 12 months durability with 2-3 layers on the car? Thanks!!
Maybe I should use this on my first few clients wanting a coating.
For the price point it would be a good place to start. Maybe try on ur own vehicle and go from there...
@@HawkProDetailing I plan to do a 2 step and ceramic on my recently acquired 2006 Accord... Should work great!
My man!! Awesome 👍🏼👍🏼
😁
I’ve never worked with these types of coating before, but no residue issues if some gets on rubber or plastic trim? Thx
No problems at all. If anything, the coating will nicely darken plastic trim and rubber as well. What I love about this product is it feels safe on pretty much everything on exterior, and seems forgiving for any possible "mistakes" by sloppy application where you might miss a high spot upon application
great video, great crack, and great coupon code - just used it!
loll
You Homosexual
fuzz nutz ok boomer 🥺
How much gloss enhancement would you say it adds?
This may be coming 8 months late, but an astronomical amount of gloss.
How much would you charge for something like that?
Basically just wash and clay the spray ceramic coating?
Branding it as a ceramic coating *assuming NO polish* I would say $200 to $250. With a one step polish maybe $400
Hawk Pro Detailing thanks for the response 👍🏾
Opinion on using it instead of lets say Igl Premier for a wash clay seal package?
I hear IGL premier is LEGIT. With that said, a 2oz bottle of this with my 20% off code (which I get nothing for on the back end by the way so do what you want lol) is a lot cheaper so maybe worth a shot?
@@HawkProDetailing Thats why i was curious because premier works really well just womdering if it would hold up longer could it be applied in the sun?

Just got to your channel and watched a few of your video’s you do a great job ...but I read that TLC black ice is a 7 day cure ... so here’s my question to you .... I have a new Ram 1500 (It has to stay outside) I’m an old man .. yes I collect a pension LOL!! I want something easy that will last ... I’ve been looking at Adam’s UV Ceramic Spray Coating or TLC Black Ice ... the cure time scares me with the TLC ..both look easy ...which way would you go???
Thanks man! Dont overthink cure time. Pick a day you know you wont get rain for a day. Try to work in shade, or garage. At minimum, wash and clay vehicle. If you feel comfortable polishing you can do that too. After you coat it, try to just leave it alone (maybe a Saturday, dont drive it til Monday). But, after a day of cure time you are fine. You just dont want to wash it for a 7 day period as it cures.
Thanks for the quick reply .... Black Ice it is .... spend years in a Auto Plan ... use to weld and do some body work ...I’ll probably use Groit’s Complete Polish ... Actually spent a few years inspecting paint ... use to freak out dealerships pointing out flaws in the paint ... the good ole days !! LOL
What would you recommend for a polish ? BTW I ordered the Black Ice ... actually knew I was over thinking it but living in Canada our weather sucks at the best of times ... Thanks for the advice I really appreciate it !
Can I add this to a ceramic coating like as a top coater or booster?
I'm sure you could use this as a topper to an existing layer of protection...not sure about longevity but it would be easy to apply and slick no doubt
This seems to apply almost the same as Turtle Wax Ceramic Spray Coating. I wonder how the 2 stack up to each other?
M_Spoon Vacuums & Detailing , seems like the turtle wax is more like the Version 2 product and this is more durable pro product. Won’t know without testing.
Awesome!!!! Game changer 4sure!! Thanks!!
have you tried it? like I said I can't tell u how long this lasts, but it lays down like a true ceramic and wipes off like butter...
There's lots of ceramic sealants that lay down like a true coating(flashing, etc...).
The Last Coat v2 seems more like a sealant and even that has been pretty impressive. This is supposed to be their pro grade coating. Time will tell on performance...
I can’t find it I want to buy it .
Is it solvent based or water
You don't have to be certified to apply Cquartz UK 3.0 and it'll give you true professional results that's been *proven*. I think you're getting ahead of yourself self as promoting this as a "ceramic coating". You have no idea of the durability. It could be just another ceramic spray sealant. And the fact that high spots wipe off easily does not suggest a true coating.
Fair enough. It's like 30 bucks for a bottle so nothing crazy. Wipes off easier than optimum gloss coat. Needs more testing but insanely easy application
Mark, you’re going to be ok. We’ll get through this together I promise.
All he did was read off what the manufacturer claims is true. Don’t want it, don’t buy it lol.
Nick M 🙄
"Manufacturer Claims" are always overstated! Have not found 1 Product that lives up to real world "claims"! So take off like 3-4 months from "claims" and try it. I think this product is worth trying...I think? Remember "Beadmaker Hype"? Have not seen 1 video on that product since 20 TH-cam detailers said this was the holy grail of spray waxes last year. BTW I still use my left over BM.
@@NickM1013 that profile pic has me rock solid, I bet tour 1 beautiful olive toned italian stallion
black ice vs TLC2 which is better?
That's a great question:) I'm still doing some real world testing...maybe just buy the cheapest one for now?
Why do you always use very plush towels to wipe off coatings?
They tend to work better for ceramic pro...so I use them by habit. But low nap towels are great
Hawk Pro Detailing also is this like a typical ceramic where once you open the seal you only have a few weeks to use the remainder before it all crystallizes? Also you still dispose of your towels after use?
Looks nice.👍
Grippy to slippy baby YEA!
Right?! Lol
The 7 day cure time on this stuff seams unreasonable for your average person, and their daily driver.
Don't overthink the cure time. Just try to do it on a Saturday or Sunday and not drive the car til Monday and you will be fine. Pro grade coatings don't sit in a garage for a month for example. As long as I can let it sit for 8 hours or so before delivery I feel good about it
Hawk Pro Detailing once you apply it to the paint, do you have to let it haze over for any length of time before buffing off?
@@TheDex302 normally with most detailing products...i would advise working panel by panel. But this stuff is so easy...do a couple /3 panels (not in direct sunlight though) and then return to lightly buff out any remaining high spots from the previous panels. By that time it will have had enough time to do its thing
Great product, but why go so fast, honestly you can use less and get the same results. Cut the video time in half, wipe on ,wipe off.
Why do you keep talking about high spots? these type of products are not even measurable on the paint surface after application.
Ceramic coatings I'm used to leave visible "oil on water" looking high spots that either need polishing or sanding if you dont apply them correctly/evenly the first time. So it was nice to use a more forgiving ceramic product
the last coat v2 didnt do anything, i used it on headlights i polished where the factory clear became yellow. well it didn't even last a week. so 6 to 9 months no way.
You tried last coat on headlights or black ice? I mean for what it is...i like the last coat v2 a lot. Expecting it to perform like a pro coating though is a bit much...
it says the last coat v2 but you missed that i guess. i expected it to work as a paint sealant which it is, and to protect my clear headlight from fading again
Why in the hell are your pants so low?
for the ladies
How the hell is someone suppose to deal with a 7day cure time if it's our daily driver??
It's no biggie. Try not to get it wet for a day -- install on a sunday, take it to work monday, something like that. Dont wash for a week though. If bird poop gets on it, use a damp towel to get it off. Otherwise dont wash for a week and you are fine
@@HawkProDetailing oh ok cool deal. I'll just put it on friday and drive my wife's car during the weekend lol let it cure alittle longer
7 day cure did I hear that right
Yep...TLC is only 24 hours. Black ice is their professional product but what I loved about it was ease of install. Time will tell just how it holds up...
Hawk Pro Detailing Do I have to keep the car dry for 7 days?
@@68lanman no, but I would suggest 2 days IF POSSIBLE. Just good SOP for any ceramic coating
Not worth it if your like me. I bought The Last Coat, then they came out with TLC2, so I got a bottle of that then they said, oh, you need the TLC AMP, yes I got a bottle of that too.
I think I’m done buying TLC for a very long time!!
