Time Machine was the album that concluded that magical first era of Joe’s career. Every release included something new and fresh. It was a thrilling time to be a Satch fan!
That’s a great way of putting it. After Time Machine, I sensed a change had occurred, but have never been able to describe what it was that I was sensing…
@@josephwirtz8352 I was seriously disappointed in the 1995 album. It seemed like Joe was lost for a while. But then he came back incredibly strong with Crystal Planet. And I loved Engines of Creation.
@@chrisluckhardt Look at channel Mrwinkler32 and you see comments like these: Joseph Mccleary 2 years ago This one definitely stands alone compared to his other albums. @@blucat4 I'm as true a Satch fan as you'll find - I became a fan after discovering Joe in the May 1989 issue of Guitar For The Practicing Musician. I eventually learned to appreciate what was attempted on that album, much like I learned to appreciate Van Halen III. The remix versions of Cool #9 and Luminous Flesh Giants on The Complete Studio Recordings are more to my liking.
Likewise…. Wish there was more. The power of those bass and drums were so cool. What a lineup! I was fortunate to see them all together in concert. Fantastic performance.
This is not a diss to any of Joe's current and former bandmates (I envy a guy who has had the pleasure of playing with so many great musicians), but this lineup with Jonathan Mover and Stu Hamm is my all-time favorite Satriani group!
True that. Stu 1st appeared on my radar w/ Richie Kotzen- mostly instrumental also if I recall. Crazy Professor Joey knows our TASTES don't he!? And sump'n tells me no hard feelings exist anywhere. It smoothes along. Man- Campanelli is a great choice,my late 70's attention to disco percussion exploded as I heard "Can't Go Back". I think Joe was in town near me TONIGHT, at Ruth Eckerd Hall Clearwater FL.!
For me Time Machine dragged me out of a really bad place :( Back in the early 90's my Father had passed and I was a young teenager. I was ALL ALONE in a mix of sorrow and anger (SAYING GOODBYE) and when this was released (growing up hearing Not of this Earth and Surfing with the Alien) of course I purchased this and upon hearing both Discs felt so calmed by his Music it was due to this Joe Satriani YOU SAVED MY LIFE in a way that is very surreal and when I think back upon it it was truly life saving (for me) Thank You Joe Satriani for all your Music and Inspiration I can and still listen often to all of the songs on It until I AM BECOME DEATH I will forever be a Satriani Fan always THINKING OF YOU Joe and what you will play next ALWAYS WITH YOU ALWAYS WITH ME
Lydian......the mode that unlocks your mind, frees all doubt, and installs the sense we are not alone! To make music this good your soul has to be tortured, you have to be able to draw every ounce of inspiration from despair and heartbreak. It's very possible Joe is an Empath, a being able to feel the very pain of others but at the same time completely understand what others need to comfort them. When I met him and he signed my guitars I only had to look into his eyes to know he's operating on a completely different level. One of a kind!
I was lucky enough to discover Flying in a Blue Dream, Ah Via Musicom and Passion and Warfare on the same day when I was a kid 😳Time Machine is still one of my favorites, so cool that Joe shared this! 😀😀
I remember my dad buying Flying for me the day of its release. He pulled me out of school and we went on a mini road trip. One of my favourite memories with him, and it’s linked to Joe Satriani’s music.
I totally relate, those three albums were the holy trinity for me. I was 14 or so, just learning the guitar and those were the most important records for me at the time, and are still to this day!
It is not that one, but I remember a Ibanez Tele made for Satch (with 4 independent simple joigned like two humbuckers). The picture of the guitar can be found on the "the best of satriani book".
The last four tracks on the live album are just incredible. I was 20 years old in 1988, unloading sea urchin boats at Channel Islands Harbor in the middle of the night. One boat was playing this strange, beautiful music. Intrigued, I asked them about. They reached in and tossed me the Surfing cassette tape, said they were tired of it. I wore that bitch out, and I’ve been a Satch fan ever since.
Unbelievable. Joe change my life for best . I still get chills all over my body when listening to time machine! No one will ever come close to joes song writing compositions!
Such an amazing album. As a 90's teen listening heavy to metal and hip hop this album pulled me completely out of both of those worlds to a truly beautiful place. This song always puts a smile on my face.
nostalgia, goosebumps and happiness to see this jewel, what a formation! i love the style of Mover and hamm, it sounds awesome, Joe killer as always and "Time machine" a musical diamond...
For those who also wondered about TELECASTER. This is 1958 Esquier tele (modded with neck pickup), which Satch bought in 1992. This guitar was used in the recording of almost every album since 1993. And it has one of the best guitar necks, that Satch ever had.
TYVM Joe Satriani for sharing this video! 🤗 Twenty one years ago this month was when I heard your music for the first time.
