Thats pretty awesome to see a big head boat go to the canyons. I will definitely be on the look out for your next episode-when you hoist some tuna over the rail!

I used to work on this boat when it was in Sheepshead Bay in the late 70's.

I remember those Sheepshead Bay days. Helen H had those heated rails. We used to go for whiting on Helen H.

Wow, I've seen videos of people fishing for mahi mahi, but never really seen them that chrome color!! Very cool to see! 😎🎣

One of the deckhands on the Frances was talking about the time he went on the Helen H, on the Captain's Special marathon trip. Which is nearly 48 hours, and is like going on the Frances' marathon 48-hour or even their 72-hour super-marathon (though in the case of the Frances, both their marathon trips are strictly tuna trips out to the Canyons, and were canceled this year due to fuel costs).

I remember fishing on the Helen H for Night Bluefish back in the 80's when I lived on Long Island.

Keep those Almacos!!!! Excellent blackened grilled or smoked. Nothing like other jacks.

I thought about it, and even asked someone nearby if it'd be worth keeping, but no one seemed to think so. I'll try blackening the next one. Thanks!

I found it funny that you caught a almaco jack,(is that correct?) I was on a friends boat going for mahi this summer. We did well and caught a large mahi and others. But the thing that reminded me of my trip was when you caught that jack. On this trio I caught a fish that we did not know what it was. I later found out that it was a "Cottonmouth Jack" I kept it and ate it. It was pure white meat and tasted delicious. I also made a gyotaku print of that fish. You can see my video where that jack was the first fish caught in that video. th-cam.com/video/4pakvid_H7Q/w-d-xo.html

Where there are peanut Mahi, there are giant yellowfin tuna, wahoo and marlin not too far behind.
