  • Anthony DeiCicchi and Jimmy Fee fish among the turbines at the Block Island Wind Farm aboard the Gail Frances of the Frances Fleet out of Narragansett, Rhode Island. It's mid-August, and the fluke are bulking up on sand eels and squid as they begin to migrate offshore.

    Damn, you guys keep stirring the youthful memories of this 72 year old. We used to drift fish for these inside the breakwater off of what was then Sand Hill Cove beach now Roger Wheeler I believe. 8 to 10 pounders were not uncommon. Getting 2 at once on a spreader rig was thrilling to say the least.

      @@OnTheWaterMedia it was interesting. people thought they were eating the chubs but they were eating the scrap bait from the boat. made me wonder what a chum slick would bring in in that area in august. I just may have to try it.

      @Cheech23 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Something to be said for this time of year (early-Mid August)... Mates were saying it's the first flush of bait from the backwaters dumping out into the sound that has the groundfish piled up with the feed bags strapped on. I'm buying that!

    • @joshuariddensdale2126
      @joshuariddensdale2126 ปีที่แล้ว

      I generally fit in a couple of fluke trips in the summer, even though it's the height of the busy season. Our fluke trips begin the second week of May, but that early in the season, it's usually pretty slow as the water is still cold. It doesn't really pick up until the seabass opener in mid-June. Fluke trips run through early September, when they switch over to their fall cod.

    Great episode, awesome job all around 💪🏻😎👍🏻
    It seems like you guys get the best sized sea bass up there, compared to the average ones here in Delaware!

    • @Cheech23
      @Cheech23 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree on that bud! We're blessed to have some of the best sea bass fishing. Vineyard sound and buzzards bay can be great with plus sized fish in the spring, then as the water warms into summer you gotta go a little further like where we were here. That said, I hear the winter wreck fishing out of NJ is your ticket to even bigger fish, but as we're currently experiencing; getting out for them with winter weather obstacles can be a challenge. Hoping to see what that's all about in the next few weeks though! Keep in mind the world record was caught to your south in VA so you never really know. Love me some jumbo sea bass. Thanks for watching - glad you enjoyed it!

    • @OnTheWaterMedia
      @OnTheWaterMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! The cool part about the big sea bass is that in New England, they come into shallow enough water that you can catch them on largemouth bass gear. Further south, it seems like you need to hit the deep wrecks to find those jumbo biscuits.

    • @paddleandhook
      @paddleandhook 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OnTheWaterMedia for sure! Our inshore sea bass would work perfectly as aquarium pets 🤣 but the offshore wrecks and grounds will hold the big mamas.

      @OnTheWaterMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@paddleandhook haha! we've been trying to get out to those offshore wrecks for the past two weeks to get at those fish, but the weather's been brutal.

    If you would use a conventional reel with left hand retrieve you can impart more action on the jig using your dominant arm - I don’t understand why guys fish opposite handed when using a conventional reel?
