Synopsis:
Elliot Mantle (Jeremy Irons) is a successful gynecologist who works alongside his identical twin, Beverly Mantle (Jeremy Irons). Elliot is notorious for developing intimate relationships with his patients and giving the women to Beverly when he loses interest. Beverly develops strong feelings for a patient, Claire Niveau (Genevieve Bujold). But when she accidentally deceives him, Beverly spirals out of control, slipping into a state of madness.
Dead Ringers is a 1988 psychological thriller film starring Jeremy Irons in a dual role as identical twin gynecologists. David Cronenberg directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Norman Snider. Their script was based on the lives of Stewart and Cyril Marcus and on the novel Twins by Bari Wood and Jack Geasland, a "highly fictionalized" version of the Marcuses' story.[3]
The film won numerous honors, including for Irons' performance, and 10 Genie Awards, notably Best Motion Picture. Toronto International Film Festival critics have ranked it among the Top 10 Canadian Films of All Time.

Just watched this again earlier. It's such a sad movie but you'd truly think there were two identical actors playing the roles. Jeremy makes you forget he's playing both roles.

great film, quite good jeremy irons as "the 2 devils" in this movie.... bizarre story... I remember one of them was inventing those strange medical (torture) instruments, insane.

Remember seeing the trailer on A Nightmare on elm street 3 or 4 vhs when I was a kid & always wanted to see it, got the dvd recently & loved it, Jeremy Irons is awesome & the story is twisted as fuck!

Sir, I have greatly admired your work. But I was so perplexed by your movie Dead Ringers from 1988. Was that some kind of Parody of Eugenics Propaganda? I remember being so disturbed by it, Mike, Wendy and I walked out of it in the Sackville New Brunswick theatre. It is the only movie I walked out of in my life.
