@@SuperCezo Both were on NFG's Easycore tour in 08. ADTR started the tour playing before FYS, but as they were getting bigger as the tour went on, they flipped the lineup to have ADTR play before New Found. Apparently, FYS took this super personally, directed their resentment towards the band, and supposdly wrote Paul Revere's Midnight Ride about them. ADTR wrote 2nd Sucks, which could be seen as about FYS, but was never publically stated. There doesn't seem to be any hard feelings towards any of the bandmates nowadays.

They completely changed everything for me as a music fan; I remember listening to for those who have heart for the first time, and I was entrenched; I had to listen to it and homesick on repeat. Every line, every riff, every breakdown was exactly me and what I needed. And when I was in the military, common courtesy came out and it was exactly how I felt. I agree, that 3 album run may never be repeated as far as amazing streak

I clearly remember the first time I ever heard ADTR. I was on our 8th grade class trip from Wisconsin to Washington DC and my friend I sat next to on the bus had a Microsoft Zune. He told me about this great new band he had come across on his Zune Music Pass. We proceeded to share his set of headphones and cue the "da da da dadadadda LETS GO" from A Downfall of Us All and we listened to Homesick and For Those Who Have Heart on repeat for many hours. This was a huge pivotal moment in my music listening experience as it led me to learn about so much new "heavier" to me type of metalcore. Still to this day, Homesick takes me back to a special time in my life.
Thank you Finn for providing the flawless content as always.

I agree about all of what you said, but calling it metalcore.... And heavier at that, is unfair. They included sounds and styles from metalcore, but the straight metalcore bands of the day that preceded them were much heavier. Think Lamb of God. Classic example of metalcore, these are very heavy bands either being metal and stealing hardcore style vocals OR the other way around- bands like KsE, the first two albums of A7X, etc. they (ADTR) borrowed and has metalcore sections.
This is just a super important clarification to make in the history of music from what I'm assuming is the scene we both belonged to. ADTR also used Pop song structure, and it did them a huge amount of justice!
edit: you got my like btw, I feel like the wording was likely not even purposeful and wanted to state that I'm not gatekeeping or anything of the like! These guys had many bands featured in the All I Want video- like Trivium to Pete Wentz which I think proves how unique they were with blurring genre lines at the times!
Edit No. 2: I just reread it in larger context and understand it now that you thank them for listening to new ground like metalcore, not saying they were. Sorry, and I agree that it caused me to look at other styles of music!

A Day to Remember's music was the soundtrack for my turning point from being a depressed angsty 7th-10th grader with a couple of friends to a much happier and more positive high school senior with a big group of friends who I still see on a regular basis over a decade later. We even chipped in to put a page in our yearbook dedicated to our friendship with "My Friends Come First, That's The Bottom Line" written in big Varsity font which is simultaneously very cheesy and a really nice memento of a bunch of dorky teenagers finding each other and feeling a lot less alone knowing we had each other to spend time with and support one another.

I was working at guitar center in Wichita Kansas Fall of 2008. A member of a band touring with ADTR stopped by needing some heads and invited me to their show at the Oz Cafe on Douglas Ave. I didn't know who ADTR was, but when they came onto the stage the venue came alive unlike any show I'd experienced and when they played "A Plot to Bomb The Panhandle" everyone rushed the stage and sang with them: "I'll make my stand, right here with my friends!" then jumped back out and went crazy for the breakdown/ending. I have been a fan ever since and was so thankful for being invited to that show!

Common Courtesy is my personal favorite by them. Fuck, that album is so good from front to back. Sometimes You're the Hammer, Sometimes You're the Nail may be their best song, in my opinion. Everything they do best seemed to click perfectly on that record. I absolutely love Homesick, but CC is the band at their peak and is a very underrated album.

I know I'm SUPPOSED to like Homesick more, but the sheer amount of hype around Common Courtesy was just so insanely overpowering and it was such an unique time in my life and it tugged at all the right heartstrings and it was just so much that when it FINALLY came out and was SO good, it's an automatic #1 favorite album tbh.

    • @ldw9861
      @ldw9861 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I agree with that. I have a hard time with ranking one or the other as my #1 album due to what ADTR went through when making Common Courtesy. There was a lot of hype, they went through a lot of struggle, and in the end they delivered and they were able to release it. Homesick delivered too, but the story behind CC with the amazing songs makes them compete for my favorite lol

Sadly by the time I asked for her myspace she hoped on the ride and I never saw her again. No name or nothing. My first band covered like 5 of their songs and we’d make the joke that we were just an ADTR cover band. If I Leave is my favourite song, All I Want, It's Complicated and Lauderdale are No-Brainers, The House that Doubt Built and You'll be Tails are personal favourites and 2nd Sucks was the first ever song I knew from them.
Aka 7 out of 10 songs are amazing to me, the remaining three aren't bad either, this band has just a very special place in my heart, as it has in so many other's

ADTR was such trip to hear about. In high school I tried to make my modest pop punk band get some heavier suitar tones and my singer could scream and I thought it would be nifty to incluide. Literally no one else in the band wanted to. They were the whole "if it's cool, I'm against it" type so they refused to scream because of the popularity of metalcore and screamo.
A couple years after that we no longer played together and I was watching TV when ADTR's cover of Kelly Clarkson's Since U Been Gone came on and I was sold. That was EXACTLY what I wanted to do, but at a much higher skill level than I could ever hope to have achieved with that old band.

Great video Finn! My only gripe is I wish you would have touched a little more on WHY did they go to Fueled by Ramen after releasing two (successful) independent albums? Especially after their hellish experience with Victory it just seemed way too out of left field to not only go with another record label, but one that literally never produced a metal core band before...and I believe "You're Welcome" clearly showed that. Thankfully with the release of "Miracle" I have faith that their next album will try to go back to their homesick sound but for now we can only hope

I remember literally shaking with excitement when I spun Common Courtesy for the first time at like 3am on a school night in high school. I remember losing my mind over the whole ADTR 21 tonight back then too. CC will always be one of my favorite records of all time and the most excited I’ve ever been for a record and my music taste would be drastically different without FTWHH and Homesick.
Really hope they bounce back next record, cause You’re Welcome was probably the most disappointing record I’ve ever heard. They sounded the best they’ve ever sounded during their recent acoustic tour, and honestly, I’d be cool if they started embracing that kind of sound moving forward. Obviously they’re a pop punk/metalcore band, but as they get older I’d like to see them move on a bit from that. Bands in those genres usually don’t age well. They are country boys after all.
