Hey great video Dave! You were talking a little about Faraday. Ironic thing about him is that he came from a very poor family in London and he never learned complex math because he really struggled in school but still became one of the greatest scientists and made some of the most important discoveries in human history. He was really passionate about giving people an education and access to it so started doing lectures in the Christmas holidays at the Royal Society in London which was cheap so almost anyone could afford to attend them and made it free for children. Christmas lectures are still being taught there to this day by the worlds learning scientists in different fields. Goes to show brilliant people can come from anywhere.
@ghfdt368. You may already know this. There is part of London - south of the River Thames - called Elephant and Castle. There, in the middle of the roundabout that form the main road junction is a large block like structure covered in dimpled steel tiles. Apparently this is a monument to Michael Faraday who was born in the local area. However it also doubles as an air exhaust extractor for the Underground (Subway) train station and network that deep passes deep below. Stay safe and well.
Squier Classic Vibe Tele uses pine for the body. I love that pattern of tiny knots on this one. The neck pocket showed the unpainted wood and it was more obviously pine there.
thanks dave and happy Hanukkah to you and to the rest merry christmas. ill say this and you telecaster people can hang me, because i play Les Pauls and there is no comparisons to telecasters at all. but for those of you that love a twangy guitar, save yourself 1000 bucks and buy a Squire telecaster 50s classic vibe for 430 bucks. save yourself 1000 plus bucks and you got yourself a great guitar. great job on this guitar dave. your the best and ive learned so much from you over the years. trust me!! Even if you sleep in a faraday cage, you might be able to block the man made signals, but the signal to our soul from the creator still gets thru,in this electric universe, rock on brother.
I love my Indonesian made classic vibe 50s telecaster. Frets perfect, nut perfect, the pots were scratchy and cutting out. Changed to cts 250k pots , a electrostatic output jack ,and brass compensated saddles. It's one of my favorite guitars. Got it new off of Amazon for 300.00 usd. 40.00 for parts. I'm in it for a hundred dollars off of retail price. reused the old knobs by drilling them out
I mean, I love my Classic Vibe 52 Tele. I put the Vintage Tele pickup set in it and it sounds and plays great. Wasn't one rough fret end on that thing. Chinese quality has stepped up a lot on the wood crafting side of things. The electronics are still where Squier and the other cheap guitars have their profit margins.
The Classic Vibe Tele's and Strata can be upgraded with Fender or aftermarket Fender-size pickups etc. The Squire Affinity series have smaller pickups, nut and tailpiece and are hard to retrofit. I have one of each and the Classic Vibe is easy to upgrade. They both play great with a good setup...like Dave does.
Shielding paint is not a good conductor and is not intended to work as a Faraday cage. A Faraday cage will block/reflect radio frequency noise but is not very effective at absorbing it. Grey EMF shielding paint contains tiny flakes of nickel which absorb both electric and magnetic fields. It will work without being grounded because it works by absorption. Black shielding paint is a suspension of carbon black and works on the same principle but is less effective than both Faraday cage and EMF paint. Genuine EMF paint is quite expensive so bargain basement manufacturers prefer the black stuff.
Great tip on tacking the copper tape together! I've always been a bit iffy on whether that conductive adhesive is really conductive. I usually try to run with a fingernail to get through it but this looks so much easier and effective!
Appreciate the tip on poking the copper layers together 🙌I had to shield one of those new -Epiphoney- Kramer Nightswans because it was buzzing like crazy, but it's still not great. Partly because the toggle switch acts like a frickin' antenna, but also I suspect because the rough finishing in the cavity means the copper tape isn't conducting onto adjacent pieces very well.
have one of the first CV teles that came out, quartersawn, very light.. I put new saddles and pups in it, one of the best guitars I own out of 80 or so . . . no jokes, I just picked it back up 2 weeks ago and it feels so compact, small, eas to play, and the pickups are starting to come around.. my bedroom axe... I reverse the controls as well, these are strong guitars regardless where they were made, the wood materials on mine are superior, just luck of the draw, quartersawn neck and body, ash body.. the paint they used here WAS not shielding paint, you can tell its got no metal flake in it.. slap a few coats of shielding paint on it good to go, all I did, little to no noise
One layer of Cu tape only slightly reduces the upper EMI harmonics. Many layers of AL tape actually works better than the same of Cu tape. Still won't do much, but you might prefer it to nothing.
I put extra copper shielding on the back of the pickguard. Lost al those special highs. Removed extra shielding and the guitar sounded sweet again; sweet, like no other tele in my collection.
I did this copper shield in a guitar with "P90's" - not the real ones. Well, apparently everything I was trying to get rid of is being captured by the pickups, because the shielding didn't do sheeeit.
I shield all of my guitars with copper foil...to me, it's just part of doing it right. And, over the top of the foil I put blue painters tape so I don't get accidental shorts....
Does anybody have any experience of faraday cage magnetic field affecting the bass tone of pickups - I have 2 strats (same Fender noiseless pickups) one with copper tape (from previous pickup set I just left it in there when I swapped to noiseless) and 1 without and I really feel more low end on guitar with cage Faraday cage is a MX Player Series and the other a MX Player Plus
A Chinese Telecaster upgraded with American parts is still a Chinese telecaster. Before you know it this guy will try to unload this thing at a premium price and won’t understand why he’s only getting offered Squier prices.
You sound like you know it all. Not everybody flips guitars and just uses them for profit. Some people actually keep them and even play them. Get a cheap guitar, have fun modding it and it's a keeper. I'd buy Chinese Squier any day over US Fender. Both countries treat their workers like crap and have dodgy ethics. Much love from Europe.
@@InjectBleach-em9tg The old “American is best” motto that has seen Japan, Europe, Korea and now China out perform the good ol’ USA in recent decades on quality and cost. Even Trump’s promised tariffs won’t protect you! Any Japan Fender is comparable with current Custom Shop Fenders. In fact, Fender USA were embarrassed into setting their own Custom Shop facility when they realised their Fender Japan guitars were works of art compared to their newly opened USA factory production! If you have $50,000 you can buy the real deal - an original 50s Fender telecaster.
Love spending time with you Dave, especially the best intros in the biz.
Thanks 👍

Thank you Dave for all your videos, your time and talent are greatly appreciated since 2014 for me!!

Thanks for the video and the hard work you put into all of this!
No worries!

Pine bodies with Tone Rider pickups back then? Excellent guitars
Nice intro visual.
Good tunes
I bought a new switch for the Squier And the depth beneath the control plate was not deep enough.
Thanks! 🤶🎅🏻🙂😎
Dave, are you using a hole saw bit on your drill to unwind the tuners? I think I saw wood chips flying.
I just started the vid but I bet that American control plate is slightly different than the Chinese one. Maybe??? We shall see.
