  • Like so many of our great monuments, the Rock of Dunamase doesn't just tell us one story, but many, with its various layers bringing us all the way back to the ninth century, and beyond.
    CORRECTION: We accidentally said this castle was given to Aoife, and we should have said it was given by Aoife, to Strongbow.

    Why does everyone focus on the tragedy? This place was the center of Gael society before invaders brought violence and their religion of death. Stongbow was a hero to his people and the Catholics continue to drag his name through the mud to this day…
