  • The most remarkable aspect of Glenstal Abbey, situated in the Catholic South of Ireland, is its highly recommended boardingschool. Glenstal abbey is the first refounded abbey of Benedictines in Ireland, and still the only one. The surroundings of the abbey were already inhabited 3000 years before Chrits. The culture of their Celtic ancestors is still kept alive by the monks; Celtic influence can be recognized in their handcraft and the Celtic language, Gealic.

I spent 4 days living in the beautiful and comfortable Glenstal Abbey. It was an amazing experience to see and understand the life of the monks. Some are gardeners, some cooks, some teachers in the boys school, and some musicians.

blessings to the brothers and their consacration and ministry, may the lord bless their vocation always and forever, and their families and their monastery and everyone that prays for them and with them, I join their prayer and entrust myself to their intercession

They can play golf? I'm packing up my clubs and heading for the monastery!

I was educated, to University level, by the Christian Brothers in Limerick, but representing the school in inter-school athletics I had some pleasant experiences (Track & Field in Summer) at Glenstal Abbey. Of course, pre-invasion, that district was controlled by the Ryan Clan of East Limerick. Maybe there was an atavistic memory at play there?😁

Such a beautiful area. I love venturing around the grounds whenever I get the chance. You just feel like you've entered a different time period. There is a special vibe there. To top it off they have a soccer pitch and tennis courts ( my two favourite sports) :-)

I honestly think that RC Orders should concentrate their energies on the education of the lower classes...where the spiritual need is the greatest.

I wish the Catholic Church would rebuilt all the Medieval abbys and monasteries back up.

I wish the Catholic Church didn’t HAVE TO rebuild them. 😭

Is there a nearby catholic monasteey or abbey offering close retreat near West Virginia, USA.

Very interesting until 11.35 where it slides into politically correct ideological gibberish. Oh well, nice try guys.

Obedience is the key, so therefore you need authority, and the authority in the schools are the Brothers, Sisters, or the Fathers.
