Bought a 2011, 2.5L gasoline CVT. Had 110000Km, and I've added about 10000 km in 8 months. I'm in love with it

Bought a 2008 1 year ago, loved it's comfort and specifications for it's age. It breaks down regularly though, nothing costly to repair each time but I can't depend on it unless I have family near by to collect me if it refuses to start.

Have a second hand 2009 2litre diesel manual 170hp version, have had it for 6 years, never had any issues with it. Service twice a year. Fun to drive, still haven't had to change the brake pads either. Have put 50,000km on it myself, speedo at 152,000km now.

I'm considering getting exactly one of those as my next car. Is there anything to look out for when buying a second hand 2.0 Diesel Manual? I test drove an imported one but it was gutless as anything so I think it must have been one of the lower rated engines rather than the 170hp one. Have you needed to do anything with the DPF system?

In Argentina we had only the 2.5 170bhp engine option with a 6speed manual or the cvt. I have a 2014 2.5 petrol CVT Xtrail and it’s very comfortable on the road and very capable light off-roader also. The only issue with the cvt transmission is the power delivery if you go hard on accelerations. Cvt is great if you make a more progressive acceleration, achieving 145km/s per hour at 3000rpm and a top speed of 170km/h (never tried though).
Other know issue are the limited headroom in the back for adults if you have an xtrail with the panoramic sun roof.

Thanks for the video, I have the 2009 2.5 l petrol and I am very pleased with for the most part . Pros are very nice handling very car like, good off road ability for what it is , I have driven on soft sand beach ok. Very good room in the back as a work vehicle , tows ok BUT I am scared the CVT automatic could over heat towing a small caravan (it hasn't to date at all) but I will get an extra cooler put on the gear box oil just to be sure for summer . I am told that sustained high speed while towing will heat the CVT up over 100 deg c . Anyway these are just precautions and I havn,t actually had any problems with 138000k so far . The Biggest negative is the 400ks to a 60 litre tank around town and 500 open road driving ( this is fully loaded with electrical gear and ladder and top box on the roof) so pretty much worst case set up there. It is much more zippy etc when empty. So to sum up I am very happy with it and would buy it again knowing what I know now but I have always wondered if a diesel would have suited me better ? They are hard to get in New Zealand and top dollar as well. Unlike the petrol ones which are everywhere, in fact the top selling type of this vehicle along with RAV4 and CRV for this age group but I prefer mine still, Its a more solid and manly machine as specially in black. Cheers from NZ

I have had a 2011 X trail tecna for the past 5 years m9r diesel engine six speed manual done 50000 miles In since owning it it's now on 150000 miles its a nice car with the tecna extras bigger wheels Bose stereo MP3 harddrive Bluetooth connection for phones leather seats cruise controll climate controll and reverse camera sat Nav (a bit outdated ) auto wipers auto lights panaramic sunroof ect are nice touches
Plenty of room for kids ect seats folded down flat its a small van with capacity for moving most big items
4x4 mode in the snow on roads it's pretty much unstoppable I've drove up steep hills in the snow while everyone else was stuck half way up never had to use the locked 4x4 mode
and the hill start auto brake and steep hill decent is cool
The only weak point is there heavy on bottom arm rubbers balljoints tie rod ends ect
Tyres don't last long and front disks and pads wear fast front calipers stick and the hand break allways feels a bit weak it's a drum handbrake inside rear disks
it's a heavy car so expected but for the money compared to what else is on offer it's a lot of car
Looks nicer and more classy than the cheap looking ugly CRV not much room in the front seats of the CRV either and being honda good examples are really expensive
more reliable than the rover Freelander it has a list of faults longer than a toilet roll
I looked around and drove both before choosing the X trail
If you keep on top of servicing ect they are good reliable cars
I would buy another t31 full service history one owner again if mine ever fails

All you needed to say was, the T31 has a Renault M9R engine which is plagued with DPF problems, which constantly fails to re-gen, hence contaminating your oil with diesel.
Apart from that they are good cars.

@@doudoubulle I paid a reputable workshop to gut the DPF and remap the ECU. Cost me IIRC $1200. I'm coming up to 80K trouble free without the DPF, 150K overall with just a couple of niggles that were cheap fixes but didn't affect the reliability.

I've had three. Still have one of them. I think that I've owned about thirty vehicles over 50 years but my current 2009 X-Trail is my favourite. Love 'em. No major issues at all. I sold the previous one at 115k with nothing to feel uncomfortable about. Handbrake system tends to deteriorate quickly. One of them needed all new wheel bearings and I've had a couple of turbo valves stick - that's about it. To my pleasure and surprise it hauled a large trailer out of a bog and with Continental cross climate tyres it is excellent in snow.. Don't really want anything else. I'll admit to being prejudiced as I was one of the original team at Nissan Sunderland, but we didn't build these.

I feel like you have to mention the infamous ‘CVT Transmission’ issue with these cars. I’m looking at potential buying one but only in a manual.

I have a 2011 2.0dci auto LE. I use 2 stroke oil in diesel and had never a DPF issue. Had it tuned to stage 1 with egr off, should be 180hp now. The boost control solenoid started to buzz and changed it. It s often the cause lack of power too. Nothing major has failed. Just few ball joints and bushes. The brakes has to be serviced every year, especially the rears. Changed the alternator bulley.

I own a 2.0 ltr petrol T31. It's at 91,000km now and the issue I'm having now is that when accelerating it kinda jerks or stutters. Not sure if it's a fuel or transmission problem, has anyone faced a similar problem? What could it be? Other than that it's a very good car, have had it since it was 65,000kms old.

Open the engine hood, check there is aluminum label mounted on firewall, you will see some informations there. On T31 the petrol engines code MR20 is 2000cc and QR25 is 2500cc.
