My instructor would of made us all do 30 push ups cause of this. No tightening of the mask, air isnt all the way on, and his helmet isnt even strapped.

Not sure how your state works, but where I am, as a testing proctor for Firefighter I, I would have failed this student for a number of reasons. First of all, all straps on bunker gear, SCBA, and mask, must be fully extended. He would have to tighten everything during the 2-minute drill. Additionally, the helmet was not strapped down properly. He didn’t open the SCBA cylinder all the way, either. All these things would count as automatic fails where I am. Impressive timing though!
I know this video is 4 years old and yes there were things that were weird but I give the man the credit he deserves even with everything lose and strapped his tike still would’ve only been over if not less than a minute so still really damn impressive no matter what anyone says he’s got this drill set to memory and he would’ve been ready to fight fire either way hats off to you bud great job

we need to change the way we do turn out drills honestly you're not going to worry about getting all the time before you get in the truck you're going to be putting on gear on the way to the fire especially your air pack when you're in a jump seat most of time I just put on my pants and nomex and jacket and screw up the gloves and helmet air pack and mask in the truck most of time I'm not going to put on my mask until I go into the building or at least not clip in until then
I know 2 guys at my dept. That are 33 seconds with no mistakes. Anytime under a minute is a milestone. In my opinion anyone who cant do a dressing drill from socked feet in under a minute needs to do them every shift until they do. Your citizens deserve under a minute 2 minutes isn't enough. He did a fine job I haven't managed to get under 40 myself

But I also know that every firefighter needs constructive criticism and critique; Not to make you look bad, but rather to provide feedback and suggestions that would help you. As a current student in Firefighter 1, I can confidently say that I didn't agree with some of the things in this video. In regards to your mask, I don't know if the straps were set already or not. However I believe that taking the 3-4 extra seconds to tighten to your mask is crucial. While having straps preset is all said and good, tightening down the straps ensures that the mask will get a good seal every time. While the preset strap method may work for you, there's always that possibility that the straps got a little loose. For the SCBA; Personally, I would've opened the cylinder all the way, or at the very least 5-6 turns. Only giving a couple of turns to open could result in a restriction of airflow. Now I am not you. I can not speak for you or say what works for you and what doesn't work for you. If it works for you, it works. As long as you can trust it 100% of time. You probably know as well as I do that taking risks with PPE is dangerous, however it can turn into a big reward such as a 39 second don time. I wish you the best of luck in your future and stay safe.

He never tightened his air mask, nor his helmet as far as I saw, and I can see his neck strap wasnt even attached, you can see the gap between the two folds of his jacket
