I dunno. They an sell out the Tokyo Dome, 55,000 seats, two nights in a row as well as Wembley, the LA Forum and the Budokan, which is a dream venue for many bands. They have broken out of the East and they have become a phenomenon in the West, which very few bands from Asia have been able to do. They've completely captured Sonisphere and Download, two very prominent metal festivals in the UK.
If you sit back and look at it objectively, they have had the biggest impact on the metal genre than any other group has in quite some time. They won't be nominated this year, for sure, and probably not next year either, but I can see them being at least nominated for the R&R HoF in the not too distant future. My guess would be sometime in the next 5 years or so.

Maybe some confusion... The kamiband was not part of Babymetal in early performances. They became the exclusive live backing band in 2014 having only done encore songs before that. Originally the trio sang to a pre-recorded backing track in usual Idol style. Then the Babybones were added. They were in skeleton costumes and mimed playing instruments. The kamiband (spirit band or god band) are dressed in ghost or corpse face paint and wear burial shrouds and have always played live. Costumes changed December 2017 and again this year.

I've been a hardcore metal head my whole life. I discovered Babymetal 6 years ago and didn't take them seriously at first. I used to show my friends their videos for comedy purposes only, but eventually they grew on me and I became a hardcore fan. Most of my friends despise Babymetal, but I don't give AF, I'm proud to be a Babymetal fan and I'll blast that shit right in their face. The fact is, Babymetal is actually *MORE* metal than 99% of metal bands. The whole point of metal is to push the envelope, ruffle some feathers and get people out of their comfort zone. Metal heads that don't like Babymetal are just not hardcore enough I guess! They can keep that cookie cutter shit!

Nothing sillier than the good old debate about what "true metal" is and who is a "true fan"™.

  • @69opsman

Another awesome rock show performance, for those of us that remember what rock shows were.
At first I was a hater of this act but the talent level has won me over. Here's some names of other acts that polarized the music scene when they came out:
Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, the Beatles.
They had a lot of haters in their day because they were different, they were ground breaking. Of course now everyone looks back and recognizes their greatness but back in the day they got an awful amount of criticism.
People are always scared of change.
I'm not saying everything these guys do is great but they try different things which is what rock is really all about.
So the way I look at BABYMETAL is to enjoy them in the present, they have already influenced the music scene and opened the door for acceptance of other metal acts as well.
All of this is a good thing.

Another great reaction - and you are absolutely right to take no notice of any haters who may have made comments displaying their ignorance or based on their own misunderstanding or misinformation they've been fed about BABYMETAL's origins or purpose. Fortunately those people are becoming fewer and further between - BABYMETAL faced a whole lot of shit from 'metal purists and elitists' who dismissed them as a money making gimmick dreamed up in a boardroom meeting and recruited because of their age and looks. Those people are completely and utterly wrong in every single one of those beliefs.
I've been enjoying many of your other reactions and, although they may not have reached the musical heights of some of the greats like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd etc (will anybody ever reach those heights again?), all those involved with BABYMETAL are certainly all hugely talented musicians and artists and by far the most unique, original, entertaining and diverse band I've had the pleasure and privilege of hearing and seeing in many, many years. Also consider this - Su-metal was just a month or two past her 16th birthday when she gave this performance, what a special talent she is.

To be fair, within the genre of metal, BABYMETAL has come about as close to the top as one can get these days, especially considering they've also gotten a lot of pushback from some metal fans. They've worked with Dragonforce, Rob Zombie is a vocal supporter of their music, they routinely sell out tens of thousands of tickets in Japan, their band members are some of the best in Japan (if not the world), and they have a unique ability to go outside of the genre and pull fans in that might initially not be big fans of metal. I was never hugely into metal, though the musicianship is clearly impressive; then BABYMETAL came along and I absolutely love their blending of metal with other genres, I've actually had their oldest and newest albums on repeat in my car for the past two months.

  • @icebalm

"The waning moon has lit up, the insanity rampant in the shade. The laughter resounds around me. It bares its fangs and its eyes gleam. I can't escape from it. It flickers, slowly appearing and disappearing in my mind. A nightmare rondo is being repeated. The awakening light is gone far away out of my sight. I can do nothing but run through the darkness."
I lost it at "Are you not entertained?!" hah! It's true though, BABYMETAL focuses on their live performances over their studio recordings. They consider themselves more performers than anything else. As epic as the Budokan performances and production was, it pales in comparison to some other productions they've done, like Tokyo Dome, and I'd even say Legend S, which was Su's (lead singer) 20th birthday show in her hometown. Great reaction man! The Kami Band are absolute metal masters, nothing fake about them.

    Songs you should do next:
    1. Legend of 1997 - Head Banger - the story of a girl turning 15 and going to her first head banger concert. Epic performance and crowd reaction.
    2. Karate - the official video - A true visual work of art. the dancing, the singing, everything is stunning.
    3. Pa Pa Ya feat. F. Hero - after some difficulties for the band the girls come storming back to show f**k yea we still go it.
    4. Ijime, Dame, Zettai Live at Sonishpere - No one knew who they were. This is the type of metal crowd that had bottles of piss to throw at bands they don't like. The girls step out there and killed it. By the time they left the crowd was chanting "one more song" and the world of metal was changed forever.

The girls, while young, have dedicated their childhood and teenage years to excelling at their craft through constant study and practice. In regards to people claiming the band was fake; I think most people confused them with 'Baby Bones' the "band" that would appear in their earlier music videos or on stage at some of their earliest appearances. That was paid actors in masks and skeleton suits with tracks being used rather than live performers, but they were then replaced with a rotation of these guys known as the 'kami band'.

❤️❤️ I’m just an old guy (mid-70s); been around the musical block a few times going back to the 50s (Elvis, Buddy Holly, Link Wray), and of course, the whole 60s thing; but I have never heard anything like BabyMetal. To me, they are absolutely on the same level as the greats of the past (incidentally, I have a son who is a musician, primarily death-core, that kind of thing, who absolutely HATES BabyMetal, but hey ... whatever floats your boat 🤪); I started listening to BM back in 2012 (“Dokie Dokie Morning” & “Gimme Chocolate”) and have been hooked ever since. The person who said that the Band isn't real probably thought about the Babybones. They "pretended to play" in Skeleton-Suits at the beginning of Babymetal when they still had no real Band until 2014. You can see them in the official video of "Gimme Chocolate". But Kami Band is 100% real and also 100% great! They started supporting Babymetal in 2012 and from 2014 on in every concert.

Nice reaction and some nice words, thank you! Thumbs up for remaining unimpressed by haters and true to your own senses! Have a subscription! :-)
I think there's three things contributing to the negativity towards BABYBMETAL:
    1. In the very early days they musicians were indeed fake. When you see those guys in skeleton costumes in early footage "playing" the instruments, those are just miming to background tracks. That was years ago, and some people don't (want to) understand that.
    2. BABYMETAL have split off an idol group called "Sakura Gakuin", who are part of a talent agency. So to get there, they did go through some sort of "casting" process. Nevertheless, that's not anything like the Western idol shows that many people have in mind. These girls have gotten professional training in dancing, singing and even social and intellectual skills. They have been working their asses off for years! Yes, they haven't met "naturally" to rehearse in a garage. They met when they joined an agency to hone their skills on a professional level. There their unique talent was discovered by a producer and metalhead who had a vision of combining J-Pop with Metal. He was actually inspired by them (the lead-singer Su in particular).
I don't see how this makes them any less "real" than the aforementioned garage band.
Oh, and yes, that producer introduced them to Metal. Yes, they did not know Metal before that. But they were around 12 years old at that time! I'd argue that few people are metalheads before that age. These girls have shared a stage with Metallica at a younger age than most people start to get into Metal. But they are not "real", because the person that introduced them to Metal was not their cousin or school friend, but someone with much more connection to the Metal scene. Riiiiiight....
    3. There are just a lot of people (especially in Metal, I'd say) whose minds are too small to allow them to see past their little niche. Metal has to be played by 250+ pound bearded guys in leather jackets with bad temper and mean facial expressions and must not include other instruments than guitars and drums. Everything else is inacceptable! I know, I have largely been like that in my teen years. But fortunately I have grown up, while some never do.
Nobody has to like everything, and certainly not everybody has to like BABYMETAL. We fans are very aware that they are polarizing. But is it too much to ask to accept that others might like other things?
People who can watch and listen to this and seriously call it fake and not Metal are obviously ignorant or lying to themselves. Even if one doesn't like the music, there's no denying that the skill of everyone involved is on an incredibly high level. If one cannot acknowledge this even without liking them, they are small minded ignorants.
But to be honest, why should I care? In the end those guys are sitting there with their grumpy faces having a bad day listening to and complayining about stuff they hate, while I'm having incredible fun with a band that makes me smile every single day! And BABYMETAL are doing that like no other band ever before! Who is better off?

BOH, *bass*, Takayoshi Ohmura *guitar*, Mikiko Fujioka *guitar* (RIP) and Hideki Aoyama, *drums* are the "Kami band" These are top musicians in Japan. Ignore anything negative said about the band... they're no joke.

I genuinely love your reactions. One of the best reactors I've discovered in a while. Great insights and everything, I'm glad you chose to stick to BABYMETAL. Sorry in advance but this will be a rather long comment ;).
I don't really know where to go from here, your first 3 selections have been spot on so far and some of the best videos available on TH-cam :). Unfortunately, most of the best links for BABYMETAL are outside of TH-cam (Vimeo, Streamable, Dailymotion, etc.). We have made a list (all credits goes to Loon) as a community for what we consider to be the best videos for each and every official BABYMETAL song there is. Not counting special performances and whatnot. I will drop that list down here so you can, if you want, skim through that list for any future reactions.
Before that, here are a few recommendations for your next reactions that I think you might enjoy (remember babymetal live is best) :
    BABYMETAL - Megitsune Music Video
    BABYMETAL - Karate Music Video
BABYMETAL - Karate live at download 2016
BABYMETAL - The One Official Video
    BABYMETAL - Headbanger Music Video
BABYMETAL - Headbanger Live at Budokan 2014 (same as this video)
BABYMETAL - BABYMETAL DEATH at Legend 1997
For this last one above, "BABYMETAL DEATH", a little bit of informations before going into it won't hurt in order to fully appreciate it : "Legend 1997" refers to the year the leadsinger, Suzuka "Su-Metal" Nakamoto was born. It was her 16th birthday special concert. The song "BABYMETAL DEATH" has been a show opener for a long time. However at this particular concert performance, it was done as the last song of the set. It symbolizes Suzuka Nakamoto abandonning her mortal flesh to be reborn as a Metal Goddess, summoned by the Fox God to lead the Metal Resistance going forward. That song title is a play-on-words. DEATH sounds like "Desu" in Japanese. It is a formulation to introduce yourself. For example, if you said "Hi, Dramasyde desu" you would mean "Hi, I'm Dramasyde" or "Hi, my name is Dramasyde". So "Desu" roughly translates to "I am" or "We are". The lyrics are scarce in that song. Basically, they're spelling B A B Y M E T A L with the crowd (hard to hear at first) and then saying "Su-Metal Desu" - "Yuimetal Desu" - "Moametal Desu" - "BABYMETAL Desu". During the song, they point fingers are themselves and the crowd, signifying clearly that they consider their fans and their crowds to be a part of BABYMETAL. There are also 2 nods to Metallica in this live performance. Will you be able to identify them ? Hints : they are at the very beginning and the very end of that show ;).
I hope with these informations in mind, that your appreciation of the performance will be elevated. I know it should ;).
For now, here is the dropdown list I promised you earlier, credits to Loon for putting it together :

I think those who have reacted to either the music video, or one of the old performances (or both) of _Headbanger!!_ should do another for the _Legend M_ performance. I believe they'll be blown away by the awesomeness of it. :)

DramaSydETV, FYI, I think some people are talking about early career of BABYMETAL where only them and BABYBONES who dress like human bone figure dress pretending to play instruments. You can see these BABYBONES on BABYMETAL official songs like DOKI DOKI Morning and GIMME CHOCOLATE. After this era, production hired KAMI BAND and they are real top notch metal musicians.

About the band, Babymetal has actually used a "fake band" before. The band in the skeleton outfits (aka Babybones; for example in the Gimme Choco MV) aren't actually playing the instruments. The instrumental was playback when Babymetal first started. I think it was roughly around 2014 when they first played with an actual band, the Kami Band, which you can see in the video.

The problem here with the people who think they are fake is that they have only ever listened to one or two BM songs, and those probably being their very early stuff where Sue sang to mostly canned music, and YUI & Moa's vocals were also piped in ... they stopped doing that long ago (2012 I believe was when they switched over to all live performances.. with some piped-in 'sounds, growls, piano & synths once in a while, which is not unusual these days, but some people just don't like music to evolve, so they get pissed off when something new happens rather than appreciate hearing something new and fresh!
Babymetal is an inspiring band, not my favorite as metal is not my favorite genre by a long shot, but after 6 years of BABYMETAL 'inspiration' I at least now know the names and a few songs from a lot more metal bands than I used to know. I stopped following/ grew out of metal back when Sabbath GFR and Deep Purple were still a new thing and after metal became largely a vehicle for unskilled musicians to express their hate and anger by making 'loud noises' .. and yes I understand that a lot of that 'noise' of early metal garage bands has evolved where I can now not be totally disgusted by incoherent growls, unless it's all the band is capable of doing (thing is though, unlike the 'metal purists', while I may not like some of the more non-melodic metal, I don't jump on reaction threads to that music and profess my 'hate' for what they are doing ... if someone wants to play and sing music I don't like, fine, all the more power to them, I'm not being forced to listen to them, so why should I care if someone else enjoys something I don't like?)

As far as I know, it was at _Legend I_ (Oct 6, 2012, first of the _Legend I, D, Z_ shows) that the Kami Band were first summoned to perform with BabyMetal (though they had not completely replaced BabyBones at that time). _Legend 1997_ (Dec 21, 2013) seems to have been the last time BabyBones appeared at a live performance. They did not appear at the Budokan _Red Night & Black Night_ shows (March 1 & 2, 2014) or any shows since then. By that time, they were definitely retired, and replaced by the Kami Band.
To me, some metal purist saying that BabyMetal isn't truly metal is the same as some jazz purist saying a band such as Weather Report isn't truly jazz. Well, duh doy, purists! Of course, it's not their intention to be pure this or that. They're fusion. That doesn't mean that BabyMetal isn't metal, or Weather Report isn't jazz. They're just also something different. :)

in babymetals earliest days they did have a fake backup band that was just for show. . but pretty wuickly once they saw the potential of this project going foward they picked up the kami band for all their live performances and the whole band is just really world class. . truly fantastic

Also you should check out Band Maid they got a really good song called Play and it is amazing if you watch the live video if you haven't seen or heard any of them. :)

I don’t understand what’s not to like epic instrumentals and Su’s beautiful vocals also with other Yui and Moa’s cute vocals which always puts a smile on my face and the thing I really do not understand is the people that say that Babymetal isn’t metal. Okay it’s got poppy singing in most of their songs but the music is definitely metal and to all who think they are fake go on TH-cam type in The great power of Boh and the great power of Mikio then say their fake.

As others have mentioned, I'm also pretty sure that those saying it was fake were talking about BabyBones. They were definitely just actors. However, even the haters aren't generally stupid enough to deny that the Kami Band are legit, very skilled musicians, and the real deal live. I can tell those accusations bothered you. That's understandable. We tend to be quite protective of BabyMetal, and quick to call out any misconceptions and misrepresentations (and sometimes outright lies) about them. Welcome to being part of The One. We increase in number, but it always remains One. :D

There are some metal heads that want to dismiss Babymetal as "fake" metal. While it's true a lot of their songs have that bubbly, pop & happy sound to them some are straight bad ass like this one. Also how metal is having her raised fun the center of a summoning pit?! One of their performances has her being crucified!! Also the band members are all insanely bag ass at they instruments.

This is all the real thing as someone else explained they only had a fake band when this thing first started … all this here is live and in person .. nothing fake about this and this band is badddasss every one of them … all the stuff from both nights Red and Black Night is awesome .. this is when they really took off .. you did a reaction to Ijijme Dame Zetia that also was very instrumental in them becoming Worldwide .. at that festival they were slotted to play one of the small stages and got moved to the main stage .. they blew everyone away and the rest is .. as they say .. History .. but these shows as well as Legend 97 and Legends 99 shows were what made people take them seriously .. what surprised the hell out of me from that start is how professional they are and how good the Kami Band is .. outstanding musicians .. I saw them first and the Late Show with Steven Colbert and said wtf .. I couldn't believe what I was seeing .. got on youtube and was totally blown away by this whole thing .. its truly amazing and as a musician of 40 years .. the music is incredible … .. great reaction thank you .. keep up the good work , and also I don't know what people have said but who gives a flying fuck .. they obviously have limited knowledge of BabyMetal and out of all the years I have been watching them now there Is very very few people who talk bad about them. in fact I can only remember 1 … so don't let a few people who like to keep their world small affect what you do .. God Bless

We are entertained! Great reaction. You need to react to Akatsuki Black Night. Beautiful and burning. Features Su's great voice. Also, has anyone asked you to react to Jinjer's song Pisces? Another female fronted band, this one from across the other ocean. She also has a fantastic voice and range and overshadows an extremely tight and professional band. If you enjoy watching the human body reaching for it's potential, you'll smile at the last minute and thirty seconds of this song. PS It's really hard the first time, but try to pay attention to the band. Everyone is burning hot.

A lot of people's mindset is "If I can't do it, then it's impossible/fake." Sad thing is that it's possible BECAUSE it's someone else doing it. Everyone has his quirk in the hive that is human civilization.
