  • Hi and welcome to my channel.
    When I was building my teardrop trailer (aka mini camper), I decided to use Centaflex hinge for the main galley hatch door, however I couldn't find any instructions on how to do this at the time. After figuring out how to do this, I decided to share my learnings in case someone else finds themselves in a similar predicament.
    Don't forget to subscribe for more content on my tiny camper, DIY projects and other adventures.

    Great thanks for posting. I am using one for my teardrop kitchen door.
    Didn't know there was a top and bottom on a Centraflex hinge.

    I was considering the snail hinge til I saw your video! How does the hinge hold up to rain seeping through it? That built in type rain guard is what enticed me to using the snail hinge. But I love how sleek this looks!

      Hi. As long as you install adequate seals there should be no problem. I've kept the trailer outside the whole winter, and not a sip of water came through.

    Thanks for the info.. Very skill build. I watch it alot for inspiration. The 2nd ply skin with inserts is genius and creates a strong vert and horiz bonding. The internal melamine is just so practical and easy to clean.. Enjoy your camping and hope you come my way in future .

      Hehe, thanks so much. I've had some water and rain over it... used high pressure to wash the trailer too, and it's sealing perfectly so far too.

    What size hinge did you get for your install? And what size is the right angle alum that you used?

  • @dalemacdonald201
    @dalemacdonald201 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    How is the hinge holding up? I'm guessing that it will eventually break at the point where it pivots.

    • @ChilledBeans
      @ChilledBeans  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it's made of some special flexible material. So hopefully it should be durable. So far I haven't had any issues, it's bee two years. But worse case even if it did break, it can always be replaced. I guess you can always inquire with manufacturer.

      No problem. I used "J-mould". They are really awesome. Different companies sell these, but I bought mine from here
      www.onestopcaravanshop.com.au/shop/j-mould-white/
      They sell two types, the corner ones, and also the flat ones.

    Hi. Do you have rain water leaks? I’ve used the same hinge on my Teardrop Trailer. My problem is that water is getting through at the two edges. I think I need to buy a new hinge and cut it so that it overlaps the two edges. Hopefully it will solve the problem.

    • @ChilledBeans
      @ChilledBeans  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Sorry to hear that. I never had any leaks whatsoever. But yes, I had to make sure the hinge at the top overlaps the edges, and the angle trip behind is cut in such way to go a bit higher on the inside. Then silicone any gaps around, and position the seals high enough to cover any gaps.

    Thank you for your very informative video. Very well explained and now I have the confidence to start my build. You have done a great job of your camper. I have subscribed and will follow your progress. I now understand you used 18mm ply but not sure what dimensions used in the inside skin. Could you advise if you have time.
    Thanks Allan .Sydney Northern Beaches

      Hi Allan. Thanks for your awesome feedback. I'm working on a detailed video of the full camper build and will be posting it some time before Christmas hopefully. To answer your question, I used the following layers for the walls (starting from outside):
      - 0.6mm Colorbond (external cladding for final look), and also 1.2mm checkered aluminium at the bottom.
      - 18mm marine ply
      - 15mm lightweight ply with cutouts for insulation
      - ~3mm interior melamine panels. (something very similar to this: www.bunnings.com.au/inbuilt-3mm-2440-x-1220mm-natural-wood-melamine-colourboard_p0093003 , althought I bought mine from a place that sells caravan/camper structural materials).
      Stay tuned, I'll provide detailed instructions in upcoming videos. All the best with your build, it's really an awesome experience to build these campers.

    Where did use the 221 glue

    • @ChilledBeans
      @ChilledBeans  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Basically 221 or the t-rex one interchangeably. WHen i ran out of t-rex i used 221 to glue the trims to the sides, and also the hinge to the top. But i also screwed them in as well. But the glue provides water proofing as well.

    • @quentinradsma7616
      @quentinradsma7616 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ChilledBeans i had to redo my hinge three times
      I used a glue similar to the 221 in compound and an another strong glue "stick like sh*t" a trusted brand for years i have used super scared of glues now.

    • @ChilledBeans
      @ChilledBeans  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@quentinradsma7616 really sorry to hear that. Have you used good screws as well to secure it? THe main purpose of the glue is to weather seal it, but I would not rely on glue alone having to hold all that weight. You should always screw the hinge to the ply.

    • @quentinradsma7616

      @@ChilledBeans mine was on to Aluminuim so I used pop rivets.
