Hi Paul, Ryanair will accept a government issued temporary document if a travel document/passport is stolen (temporary document is to be used for one leg of the journey only). There are 46 daily buses from Benidorm to Alicante (4 euros 75 per trip or thereabouts). There is a tram that leaves every 30 minutes and costs about 6euros 50 per return to Alicante or there is the train. Sorry to hear that you were robbed, only ever happened to me when in Prague (and it was gut-wrenching), very busy train and my bum bag was removed during the crush. I lost my phone, my camera and some loose change. Reported it to the police at the airport (as was on my way home) but they insisted I wait to speak to the judge, who was 2 -3 hours away. I was told if I left without speaking to the judge, the crime would be considered not to have happened. Needless to say I left but got the policeman's badge number and the address of the police station so squared things with my travel insurers.
What a sickener, Paul. My thoughts go out to you. That's very good advice from Francis though and I hope it helps you. What I want to know is why there is no lock on the zippers of backpacks. You see so many people casually using them. We saw the aftermath of such a theft in Lisbon. A lovely young couple. Horrible.
Sorry to hear this. I can't help with your immediate problem, but here's a good tip for future reference: I have a copy of my passport, driving license, and travel documents stored on my phone. in addition to this, the content of my phone is stored online. This means that as in your case, all your info can be produced and if the phone is stolen it can be retrieved from online storage from a second phone or PC. Again sorry, but hopefully that this will help you going forward.
Hi. When I say that I have my passport on my phone, this is in addition to carrying the actual passport. I have these documents on my phone (secure area) in the event of any or all of them being stolen or lost whilst away from home in a foreign country; so that they can be produced as proof of the originals or for any details that may be required from them. @@jezcuffy
I travelled to Colombia quite a few times, and always wore my backpack at the front. Even the locals do this because of robberies. And in packed buses you hold your arms across your bag as much as you can. Situational awareness, sometimes you can slip sadly
Hi Paul, sorry to hear that this has happened to you, I’m always giving advice to others about security and got stung myself in Benidorm! I would go back to where this happened and wait and watch for a while because I believe a criminal always returns to the scene. I’d also check the bins in that area and surrounding area because they will throw away what they don’t want very quickly just in case they get nabbed! Hope you get home ok and also get accommodation sorted, take care.
Soo sorry you have experienced this horrible crime, weve been to Benidorm 6 times now in 10 years and have been fortunate not to of experienced anything negative. Hope all is well with you now. We all really enjoy your video's and look forward to future ones. Sending you lots of love and best wishes from Nottingham......take care.x💪💪
Blimey, you will have to buy a mini padlock for your backpack zip. Im always paranoid about wearing backpacks for that reason, but its sad we can't trust anyone walking about.
I was thinking the same thing: mini padlocks for the backpack. I'm sure this will all be straightened out in the end and trust your instincts to be sharp as they usually are for you. This was just a fluke situation. Keep traveling!
I got robbed in Tenerife and had to get a temporary passport and flew with Ryanair on arrival at the airport I went to the Ryanair desk ( not checkin ) they were fantastic and I had no issues .
OMG Paul! Been there and you doubt everything you normally do. So sorry, a wee shame and lots of stress you don't need. Thank goodness for the milk of human kindness x
Morning Paul. It was so lovely to meet you yesterday 😊 Bryan and I hope you got all your documents sorted 🙏 You certainly didn't deserve what happened to you 😢 We both had a lovely night with you and what a laugh. We wish you all the best and maybe see you in Aussie land one day 🇦🇺 Our casa is your casa. Lots of love from us ❤
Hi Christine yes we did have a laugh and I needed it after the horrendous day maybe one day I'll go Aussie all the best to you and Bryan with a Y, love Paul x
Sorry to hear of your bad news, I am sure with your positive attitude you will get through this. It will certainly make your followers think when travelling and we will all learn from your videos and advice. Good luck..
Sorry to hear this mate. I never carry a wallet for example. And if I go somewhere like London for the day I’ll always have various things in various pockets. It’s easier in winter if wearing coats etc. so I’d never have cash and my bank cards in The same pocket so if I get pickpocketed I’m unlikely to lose everything. In a rucksack for example you could stash the cash at the bottom of the bag with something on top like a book or whatever you carry. I certainly wouldn’t have all things together in a folder (although I undertstand you probably want every neat, tidy and organised) It can happen to anyone, regardless of how experienced they are with travelling. On the bright side you weren’t mugged. Take care.
Paul I have just read a comment for you to go back to were you got robbed and look in the local rubbish bins around that area, because I just remembered when it happened to me in carrafore shopping mall in spain the police security in there told me to do that for my bank cards because they only want the cash, but I just got on line and cancelled them xx
Very sorry to hear you've had this problem Paul. It is a costly experience but for me, the inconvenience and messing about that it caused is far worse. I wish you well and hope all goes well with your next and your return journey to the UK.
Just watched this video again and I just remembered something, i remember being in Benidorm as a kid around 1985 and i remember we were looking in one of the souvenir shop windows and after a couple of minutes I just happened to look back and there was a boy he looked about 8 trying to discreetly unclip the keyring I had hanging from my backpack and he was with a woman who was watching him do it, i think it was his mother, both looked Romany and i remember pulling my bag away from him and glaring at him and he moved quickly away. I know a keyring is nothing compared to what Paul has lost but it's the inconvenience of having to be extra vigilant when on holiday. To get your passport and money stolen is shocking.
Hi Paul, sorry to hear about this, in my experience the worst place for being dipped is Barcelona, been many times, yet still get robbed in some way or other no matter how careful i am, they're so quick, these people can absolutely ruin your holiday, they make me sick, keep your chin up pal!
So sorry to hear this, hope you manage to get it all sorted ASAP. Nothing you could have done about it ,just wrong place wrong time could happen to anyone. Stay safe .
I travel up to six months each year, i travel with only a back pack and always wear cargo shorts with large discrete pockets where i put money, passport and travel documents. My wallet is in a pocket and secured by a sturdy chain attached to my leather belt . No problems since adopting this method a couple of decades ago
Oh my word, I’m so sorry to hear this has happened, I really hope you manage to get it sorted. Best piece of advice that I can offer is to ditch the Adidas rucksack, I use a Pacsafe backpack when travelling, they have reinforcement woven in (anti slash), and you can padlock them closed and even lock the straps to railings etc as they are reinforced but also very light too. They are not as cheap as a standard sports rucksack but they are reasonably secure. On the plus side I love your videos and please keep them coming. God bless & take care, Mark 👍
You can log into your booking on Ryanair and update / change the travel document number to your emergency passport, but in reality as long as the name matches they will accept the emergency passport
So sorry to hear this we came back from Benidorm to day and I know those steps very well we stayed at a lovely hotel close by! a few days ago me and the Mrs both of us have poorly legs but we can still walk with a stick and still get around, in fact we walked down those very steps and there was a guy who standing on the pavement watching who came running up to us insisting that he helped us down the steps! I told him we don't need help in fact I shouted at him the second time that we was ok and did not need his help, we both had our sling bags on because we were going to do a bit of shopping, I don't know why but all of a sudden he ran away down the road....take care and thank you for informing us where it happened.....We hope you get sorted out....
Unfortunately it is a pessimistic thing to say but he went running because he was probably intending to mug you. I live here in Spain and it's a very common ploy. You did exactly what is always advised if they come up to you offering you things etc. ... Shout very hard. They will then leg it. This is because they are opportunists who work under quiet anonymity and hate having attention drawn to them.
I really do think there is a problem with thieves in Spain. I've been to a lot of European countries and never had a problem, but got wallet and phone pickpocketed in Barcelona and hotel room broken into in Ibiza. Passport and all cash stolen. Police didn't care. Had to get a 300 Euro temporary passport.
Oh no Paul! This is awful....robbing gits! They're professional, that's why they do it so quick. I'm sure you'll get sorted though and back home safe. Keep us posted.x
We are so sorry to hear this. We are just came back from Benidorm on Tuesday - our first holiday for 5 years. We were staying in the New town. Other than seeing the pea men and their lookouts going about, thankfully we didn't experience anything like this. Not watched all of your update video yet but we hope you get everything sorted.

So sorry you were robbed. I suppose the only positive thing was you weren't pushed or injured in any way. As you say Karma will come around for the thieves.
Sorry to hear what happened, best advice I get give you for future trips is to have a photo of your passport on your phone ,its got me out of trouble before, including get back into the UK when I lost my passport after checking in at Malaga
Sorry to hear this,I never put my backpack on my back when travelling in well populated places I have it hanging from my shoulder, on escalators i hold it in front of me. In Benidorm I wear combat shorts with zip pockets nothings 100% secure but i feel it helps.

Mate ! I once hitch hiked from South Africa to the UK so here's a few tips . 1, Had a pocket sewn inside my denim shirt containing my passport and money. nobody is getting that unless they assault me. 2, Too hot to wear a shirt ? I had a small pouch but again big enough to contain my passport and money, slung around my neck and resting on my chest, usually tucked inside a t shirt or vest. 3, Make a paper copy of your passport details and store them somewhere safe. 4. Never flash your wallet containing large amounts of money or cards, keep a supply of small denomination notes in your pocket. Hope that helps
Sad news Paul. I am sure the consulate will put everything in place for you. They must do these things very regularly. Maybe base yourself in Alicante at a local hotel now ready for when your paperwork is available. I am sure Ryanair will be just as understanding. All the best Paul!
Sorry to hear this news, paul,I duplicate my hotel and travel documents plus airline tickets and photo copied my passport. Keep them in separate parts of my bag hope this is useful x
That's unfortunate - during my 40 years of business travel , passport and money/travellers cheques/credit cards were always kept in one place - down the front of my trousers - never had any problems . My bags have been slashed and bits of personal luggage taken - mainly during airport/baggage handling - but luckily I always had the essentials covered , so to speak.....
Cargo trousers and Rohan shirts with secret pockets have served me well. A zipped bum bag worn at the front is handy. Also as a motorcyclist, wearing an armoured jacket with shoulder and elbow protection reduces one's sense of vulnerability. In extra-dodgy places like Brussels or Nairobi, I have carried a dummy wallet with €20 or equivalent and a couple of expired bank cards just in case of a mugging.
Hi Paul, it sure about the passport but there is an express bus which goes from Valencia to Algeciras and stops at Benidorm and Alicante. I used it from Denia, and got the info via Google. You need a police incident number for the insurance claim, so need to go to the police station in Benidorm. Good luck with getting speedy action from the Spanish authorities. Hope you get it sorted.
Rialto hotel is lovely, hats off to Lisa. Was there 2 weeks ago. Back again in October. Can’t believe that happened in a minute of walking down steps. Hope you get sorted 😢
Hi paul, so sorry to hear your awful news, i had my money stolen from a hotel room many many years ago in london, at least i was in my own country so no passport nightmare.
Hiya Paul, this is a massive kick in the teeth, Its the lowest thing that could happen to anyone, when me and my family were in Majorca, my Mam nearly got her handbag snatched, it was more of a shock than anything, like you say it could happen to anyone, I hope CCTV have caught whoever done this.

I have a foto of my passport on my phone but didn’t think of emailing it to myself aswell as further backup ! Going to do that right now 👍
But how do you show your passport at customs when you’re arriving or coming from another country if it’s on your phone? Passports need to get stamped
Hi. When I say that I have my passport on my phone, this is in addition to carrying the actual passport. Don't bother padlocking a zip. They just poke a biro in the zip to separate it.
Makes you sick to the stomach when these lowlifes rob you of anything that's of any value to you
Oh, Paul. I’m so sorry. That’s awful for you. I hope everything goes well with your travel home and the upcoming hotels 😮😢 x
Hope you are ok Paul 😢 sad times
Sorry to hear that Paul, as long as your safe.

Aw sorry to hear this Paul! My phone & passport stole in Malaga last year. I got passport back! I had literally only put my nok phone number on it prior to that trip. It had been thrown in the street & some kind person had gave to police. They rang my nok, asked where i was staying & a detective brought it to me! I'd lovè this to happen to you❤Never got phone, was on a 2 yr Sky contract & only had for 2 months! They got money from my bank..Building Society.. account using my phone! Too long a story for here! Hope you get sorted very soon.
Hope that helps
the stress they bring on people
Oh PAUL so sorry u having to sort all that mess out. feel for you doo hope u get sorted soon
Sad news Paul. I am sure the consulate will put everything in place for you. They must do these things very regularly. Maybe base yourself in Alicante at a local hotel now ready for when your paperwork is available. I am sure Ryanair will be just as understanding. All the best Paul!
so sorry this awful thing has happened to you .hope you feel a bite calmer now .and hope you get sorted.
Oh Paul Im sorry this happened to you. I hope your travel document gets to you in time. x

It really can happen to anyone. 20 years of visiting a pal in Barcelona means my rucksack zip toggles are padlocked together.
Hi Paul sorry this has happened to you but I love your positive attitude ❤
sorry this happened. I hope that you get sorted out soon for your trip home.
Awe so sorry Paul, you are such a lovely man, love from Manchester ❤
Cargo trousers and Rohan shirts with secret pockets have served me well. A zipped bum bag worn at the front is handy.
Also as a motorcyclist, wearing an armoured jacket with shoulder and elbow protection reduces one's sense of vulnerability. In extra-dodgy places like Brussels or Nairobi, I have carried a dummy wallet with €20 or equivalent and a couple of expired bank cards just in case of a mugging.
Sorry about this paul horrible thing too happen heres hoping you get through next few days smoothly
I'm sorry to hear this. Take care x
