Magnificent catches of the model trains coming by and pass, I like it 5 stars. Thumbs up. Keep up the perfect work, my friend, just liked and subscribed, Greetings from Portugal to the UK.
Hi, very good update, you have a great collection of trains and rolling stock, your JJA wagons caught my eye because they are the look I want on mine, I want to change from the RailTrack to the Network rail black decal on the yellow background like yours, keep the great updates coming, thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much, TBH I tend to plough through and get things done quickly once I’ve worked out a plan, it’s the planning that causes me to procrastinate! Haha
Cheers Darrell, I’ve started filming the first running session today and forgot how tricky they can be to do. Unfortunately my phone ran out of battery before I could finish filming, possibly a welcome break! Hoping to get it finished this week so will have it live soon 👍
Grate update, love the detail you include. You can get vinal stiker buildings the look good and let you do back seen with littel to no space. Perfect for your lift out section.
A great layout, thanks for sharing. You could have a look at the railway line between Manchester Piccadilly and Deansgate for inspiration, buildings very close to the railway line of various heights and ages. A very congested bit of track with slow line speeds.
Hi Dave, if your looking for some station and city inspiration i would recomend having a look at Nottingham, It has a big station building & road over the platforms and a great varity of building types around it, multiple different sized appartments blocks, converted industrial buildings for both residential & commercial, Large Hotels, modern office builds, The old & modern courts, converted station buildings for police and GP surgery, Parallel roads on both sides of the station and pedestrian areas. etc Lots of inpiration to look at.
Hi Dave, layout is coming on nicely, i do have an idea for the space next to the flats near to the station there. How about the back of a hotel. The ammount of people that i know that would request a room with a view specially over the main station like that. Think there are a few low relief ones that are advertised. Would fill a space and also keep the Goodford spotters happy 👍🏻
Hi Dave. Superb size layout. You're track plan is Superb. With the back scene, just wondering with the arches and a busy station area thinking of a built up town area rather than fields or countryside. Great vlog buddy thank you. Thumbs up thumped 👍 ....Pete....
Hi Dave, great progress as always. I've a couple of suggestions if you so wish. The arches at the front could be various small businesses with an acess road in front. As for the back you could get some city backscenes cut out the sky and compliment the 2d views with some 3d buildings in front to bring the two together and add some depth. Susannah
Hi Susannah, thanks for taking the time to watch and put some suggestions forward. I have spent a little time trying to find some backscenes and there doesn’t seem to be anything that represents a UK city or large town skyline. They’re either countryside or the ID backscene city skyline appears to be outside of the UK. Are you aware of any? The unfinished road at the front of the station will be shops or possibly small businesses as you mentioned, the faller van is back and will run along this bit. Hope you’re keeping well 😀 Cheers, Dave
Thanks Bob! The tablet holder is a pair of brackets bought from AMZN and mounted on to a piece of ply. There’s a small piece of foam also attached to the back to stabilise it so it doesn’t rock when you use it in situ, but isn’t really needed if you just want a safe place to dock it. Cheers, Dave
I have built several layouts and I consider mine, HILLSHOT TRAN LAYOUT to be similar to yours. I have always used just sky paper but I think now backscenes are so good I will use them from now on. I think your layout is crying out for appropriate back scenes. It will add depth around the station and get you out of trouble in that bit that is close to the track. The good thing is you must be able to print off some examples and stick them there and see how it looks. So are you still selling your Revolution TEAs on e bay because I need 4 more?. Take care mate and all the best.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, I’ve ordered a bunch of stick on backscenes including factories, warehouses and different types of houses. One of the reasons for going for plain backscene is I don’t particularly enjoy installing backscenes and find it difficult to get them to flow around the whole layout. Merging a road bridge to a backscene is near on impossible unless you have loads of space! Also, when I change my mind it doesn’t cost a fortune, I can just paint over it again, haha! Enough of the negativity, I’ll experiment with some old backscene offcuts and see what will work, just wish someone (ID backscenes preferably!) would make a “large town” or “UK city” skyline backscene. Anyways, yes, I have 2 lots of 4 sets of EWS TEA tanks for sale on the auction site at the moment 👍
Theres a combination of trees, some are from Woodland scenics and some are handmade using Seafoam packs. Scared me at first but actually pretty easy and cost effective way of making trees, arguably the most realistic results too. Cheers, Dave
Your station buildings ie canopies and platform walkways are too steam orientated for modern traction. Personally you need to revisit this area and construct more modern era buildings . They really look out dated and out of place for what you are trying to achieve. Regards John
Hi John, thanks for your comment and TBH I couldn’t agree more. The issue is that I am not confident enough with scratchbuilding just yet and trying to find a set of buildings and canopies which are more modern is quite tricky. The only things I can find close to more modern buildings are from Faller, of course they’re the wrong scale but might be passable. Are you aware of any other brands that might be suitable? Thanks, Dave

If you are still looking for inspiration for your station /town centre take a look at Barking station and the surrounding area
Very impressed by how much you have got done in the time since last update, looking great 👍🏼

Dave, great looking layout with lots of nice straight runs and great looking trains👍
Might I suggest you place a canal/river that could go from the road into a tunnel at the location where the " Enterprise House " is....
Coming together very nicely Dave, a touch of colour is bringing it to life and looking forward to seeing some running shots , cheers Darrell 👍

Looking great. Cement facilities are common enough in town and city centres, they spring up where they're needed by local redevelopment.

Perfect location for inspiration, thanks! 🙂

Hi Dave Have a look at SCALE SCENES they make some modern station buildings that may fit your requirements cheers John.
