So many layers to this man, it's blues, it's rock n roll, it's gospel, it's orchestral, it's fuckin everything all at once, a big boiling pot of musical influence stirred into one giant broth. A Masterpiece.
I’m so happy for them they’ve been through hell and high waters as people, who knows it might have been a conflict between the members of the Verve about the dispute.
Maverick3334 it was the Rolling Stones manager at the time being just a little bit greedy when the song went worldwide and demanded full rights... now he passed away his son and the Rolling Stones returned the royalties to the Verve 👍
When this concert was going on, my dad had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer at 51 years old. I remember that this song was truly his life story. He was a workaholic and died a year later. If he was still here, we could have listened to this together.
God did some extraordinary work when He created Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones, Peter Salisbury and Simon Tong. The level of musical talent they have is unparalleled. Listening to The Verve is a spiritual experience, it goes beyond just sound and emotion 🙏🏻✝️
@@lukebradford As I understand it there's only been one court case which The Verve lost but The Rolling Stones recently relinquished song writing credits and gave them back to Richard Ashcroft. (out of the goodness of their hearts - apparently)They did not, however, return any money they have made from the song over the last 22 years or so. Personally I think they ought to unless I'm mistaken and they have.
Luke Bradford yep. Giving the stones writing credit is the biggest crime. Ashcroft sampled an orchestral arrangement that was only inspired by a stones tune (they stole from the Stapleton sisters) with permission but the rights belonged to that asshat Feinman’s company and when he recognized the hit Bittersweet Symphony was he cleaned up in court by saying the verve oversampled it and for 20 years Mick and Keith and Feinman whored it out to every paying party. So this late gesture is likely some semblance of guilt since the original dickhead who decided to screw the verve is dead now. Hope he’s enjoying that profit now.
@seagirl1100 I knew it was historic at the time ,live in the moment ,leave the mobile at home ,we didn't have them in 98 thankgod ,cameras yes but it Hightens the experience looking back not to have been there holding a mobile phone .I'm 51 now and gigs were more personable back then .
I had never heard of Richard Ashcroft. I think Richard was unknown and he was a threat to the larger known bands. He is so talented, Chris Martin of Coldplay called Richard Ashcroft best singer in the world at G-8 Live. Chris did background vocals. Glad Richard was returned his rights to Bittersweet Symphony! Wish I had a ticket stub and had been there live.
Hear me out…. But humanity lost its soul with smart phones. Look at everyone enjoying themselves with no other distractions (like their phone) Just fucking enjoying the music, and the moment 😎🤘🏼
'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, that's life Tryna make ends meet, you're a slave to money then you die I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet, yeah No change, I can change I can change, I can change But I'm here in my mold I am here in my mold But I'm a million different people From one day to the next I can't change my mold No, no, no, no, no (Have you ever been down?) Well, I've never prayed but tonight I'm on my knees, yeah I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singin' to me now No change, I can change I can change, I can change But I'm here in my mold I am here in my mold And I'm a million different people From one day to the next I can't change my mold No, no, no, no, no (Have you ever been down?) One of the greatest songs of the 90's. One day, on the sixth channel of the French TV, we saw this guy with the face pruned, evoking by his look Malcolm Mc Dowell by Kubrick. He jostled people face camera. The orchestration stitched to the Stones, this voice .... it was so much more horny than Oasis;)
It was the best of concert’s I’ve ever been too ..Wigan was buzzing… legendary 😊. And the sun came out right on time
" I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah."
Epic masterpiece.

back when amazing shows didn't have a million iphones taking it down
Utterly utterly fucking brilliant. One of THE tracks of the 90s.
THE track!
No smartphones, just pure living in the moment
You're right. I didn't notice that.
@@Spottythepit if you didn't notice it you weren't around to appreciate it check out their Haigh Hall gig
Most memorable gig I’ve ever been to. Many years ago now but completely unforgettable. Parking was a nightmare though 😅
Absolutely best decade for music , coming together , absolute privilege to be a part of it ❤
Yeah they did that in 1940 as well
One of the best songs in history absolutely love this
It was always the Verve's song. It has been returned to them finally.
Yes, thank you, was so glad when I heard that news recently!
I’m so happy for them they’ve been through hell and high waters as people, who knows it might have been a conflict between the members of the Verve about the dispute.

Same thing with me, I was there for this gig and it moved me to tears! Fabulous fabulous gig!
Im sure he IS listening with you❤
😢
He sounds phenomenal here and even in more recent years he still sounds great
This is the song that embodies the 21st century down to it’s core, an absolute masterpiece! ❤️🔥
This IS the Verve and this is the anthem for a generation
Best song ever written in history of mankind
it speaks to the heart of mankind
I was only 7 at the time but I remember hearing this concert from my village a mile away. Too young at the time to appreciate
They finally got the rights to this song back from The Rolling Stones, like 20 years later! Congrats!
How does this not have more views? One of the best live versions I've seen
At least trillion😊
Awesome just perfect
TH-cam removes the views an does something with them. My channel had tens of millions of views and there all gone now : (
It is incredible - been to this park many times and had no idea this gig took place there, wish I had seen it live
I saw Richard Ashcroft in Belfast one night and he finished his set with this. The roof nearly came off at the end. Superb.
omg....this is such HIS song........no one could have done it better!!!!!!
You own that song, forever
Amazing mixing of the vocal mic, and how freaking good it sounds coming from 1998 and TH-cam.
Maybe the best live version of all time
Agreed
nowhere pan watch the rocking1000 cover
I think that da best Version Is the Glastonbury 2008 :-)

A perfect example of music transcending...everything. Amazing song and jam.
Very nice. Best version I have heard!
Ho consumato il CD a forza di ascoltarlo!! ❤
Ashcroft is an inspiration. Finally got the credit for this song the verve deserved.
Son las mejores canciones qué han podido escuchar mis oídos; ! Qué hermosa canción
Bem isso
Awesome. Just awesome. Played with passion and drive.
Juste sublime pour toujours ❤
Great song. Great outcome for the Verve after a long ongoing fight. May they get all that is owed to them.

Ashcroft said sarcastically that "Bitter Sweet Symphony" was "the best song Jagger and Richards have written in 20 years"
