    Seeing those HD280s triggers my OCDPTSD because of how many times I've seen Joe Rogan wear them the wrong way around. And when I say "how many times", I mean every time. He always wears them with the wired side on his right. It's a disgusting and immoral habit.

    The reason of 8-pin connector is because it has the variation models like HMD300Pro that has a mic for broadcasting. They share the same design. Therefore in this case the normal HD300Pro probably only using 3 or 4 pins on the connector while the other models use all 8 pins.

      @thatchinaboi1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good size soundstage too, due to the driver being set slightly further away from the ears than most headphones. This not only minimizes bass rumble, it also creates a larger soundstage.

    • @Jason75913
      @Jason75913 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thatchinaboi1 yeah, but they suffer from cup reverb worse than HD280pro, which hurts soundstage and resolution

      @@Jason75913 I highly doubt that. HD300 Pro is designed to have lower distortion than HD280 Pro. What SPL are you listening at?

    • @Jason75913
      @Jason75913 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thatchinaboi1 distortion is irrelevant, volume level is almost irrelevant as well, cup reverb is from lack of acoustic treatment inside of the headphone cups, often behind the driver elements, it's what gives closed headphones their "closed" and reverberant sound versus good open-backs like HD598, K612, HD600, and HD650, closed headphones that suffer much less than HD300pro from cup reverb include SRH840, DT770pro (actually has acoustic treatment inside), HRM7 (also has treatment), K553, even the DT880pro and DT990pro have treatment even though they are semi-open
      all the excess reflections or whatever hurt the soundstage and resolution, exactly like excess reverb inside of speaker cabinets, there are good reasons why studio monitoring speakers get a bunch of fiberfill inside of their cabinets
      I mod my headphones with fiberfill and/or transpore tape to alleviate the issue, but I know everyone else won't do it.
      HD300pro is pretty good up to a limited extent, and the impressive tonal balance makes it great for certain tasks, but clarity is overall lacking for a $200 headphone versus the competition. It's biggest advantage is the high passive isolation. Koss Pro4S is very similarly as balanced as the HD300pro, and K553 is also very close but has less bass boost.

    • @FeelingPoyChina
      @FeelingPoyChina ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jason75913 I agree with your criticism on the 300PRO.
      can u recommend any material and how to apply that material and in which way/shape/pattern/form to be applied to get rid of the cup reverb?
      I would very much appreciate it.. thanx in advance

    I have 280, 300 and NDH 20. 300 is almost the best headphones ever, I love mids sooo much!!!! But base on 300 is overpowering mids, which is really unfortunate, I almost cried. NDH 20 is the best headphones ever but really uncomfortable after 30 min. Like really uncomfortable. 280 is the best headphones all around. If you dont have any of these 3 headphones, start with 280, it's only 79$ on sale. 280 sound very balanced, greats mids, great atmosphere, great bass, and detailed enough. 280 is a pure pleasure.

    • @Jason75913
      @Jason75913 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to disagree, 280 has abundant subbass boost, a midbass dip/hole, and unbalanced treble. What I read most people complain about is the vice grip.
      I wouldn't mind owning and using HD280, but I already have an old Irish-built HD25-1 II and an HD300pro.

    I am a serious gamer. I am the guy listening for the reload or footsteps in the next room. I am trying to "graduate" from gaming headsets to headphones. The information here is awesome, but sometimes above my understanding. Could someone explain why he loves the Sennheiser 280's, but hates the 569's? They are both closed back (which I have to have because my gaming PC is in our bedroom and my wife doesn't game, LOL) and they are priced very close together. Is he saying the 569's are all midrange with no high's and low's???
    I have an enormous head and have been able to try on the 569's and the fit was glorious. I loved that the 569's didn't pinch my wookie sized head and the pads didn't clip the top or bottom or my ears. Should I expect similar fit from the 280's?
    Thanks for any constructive help my friends!

    I am not sure if it was with this model or with the now discontinued HD 380 pro, but for a while Sennheiser did offer to put one's logo on those plastic caps as you wanted if bought from their website. I am guessing they still do for corporate clients that buy in bulk

  • @kim--

    The connector is from the broadcast/ATC line of headsets (HMD, HME/C series), hence both the TORX for securing it, and open pins for supporting microphones/ANC powered through P48. A bit overkill for a studio pair, but makes sense to reuse it.

    • @MiloTheFirst1
      @MiloTheFirst1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well said. economy of scales, the save up money in both production and assembly by having both the HMD and non-HMD version use the exact same case, even if that mean having to put an 8 pin conector on a 3 line cable because that's the one that was designed to fit in the case,

      @zero signal I also dislike how the Dt 770 80 ohm sounds, but I had both the 380s and 600s, and the only thing the 380s had going for them was that BASS and their good isolation (and big opening, but that's a comfort thing)... and even that wasn't as well controlled as it could have been.
      Every other aspect just goes to the 600s, no questions asked.
      It's just the cleaner and more natural sounding, more detailed headphone out of the two, in my opinion.

    I believe the 8 pins in the cable and jack are because of economy of scales, the version with the added microphone uses those lines but they save money in batch production by installing the same plug and jack in all version even if some only have 3 lines in the cable. I too have owned a set of HD 280 pro for 7 years, which I use to monitor Live events and recordings, and was looking forward to the 300 hundred just to see if they added some more detail. I will probably still get them down the line but now they won't be a priority. funny thing is I would never have said the 280 had plenty of bass (comparing to other monitoring/studio headphones) and I actually expected the 300 to add a bit more, although I have never tried using them with tubes as you do

Your description of their sound (what little description you actually did and especially in comparison to the 280) is waaaaay off 🤷. Ok so I've now got the HD280 Pro's (mkII), comparing them to my MT5's they have a bigger warmer bass, but overall are more confused and soft. Mids lack presence, and highs lack speed. They're ok for comfy sound, but quickly after a few minutes everything sounds like it's repeating the same sounds, lack separation, like mud. Very poor highs indeed, repressed, soggy soggy paper, overall just offensive mud, a cacophony. No place in the studio for me, or for just listening. There really isn't anything to match the MT5's, their presence, detail, speed, and overall flat but slightly coloured sound is unsurpassed. For sure not even my DT1990 Pro's are as good as the MT5's.
    MT5's are still king. There is a new legend - the MT5. Just compare a track like, Kraftwerk Robots, please try it. The accuracy and electronic aggression is lost to the 280's - but ever so present with the MT5's.
    I'm mentioning this here in the HD300 Pro review as you refer to the MT5's just after 25mins... th-cam.com/video/JRt5YHMqF5c/w-d-xo.html

      If the Neumann is an HD630VB without the muddy passive bass boost, it is over priced. 630VB has fairly good quality, but the quality is around $200-250 range for a closed-back. $500 is ridiculous, unless the drivers are significantly improved (possible, but unlikely, knowing ol' Senn). I'm not willing to find out, closed headphones aren't a Sennheiser forte anyway.

    Not worth the price increase, definitely not with the sale price of the 280 pro. $72 USD for the 280 and $200 for the 300? No contest. You can almost literally get 3 280s for the price of one 300. That's nuts.

    • @thatchinaboi1
      @thatchinaboi1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's better in every way, so a $100 price hike is not ridiculous. In fact, it is worth it if you already love the HD 280 Pro, but want something even better. 😊

      What is nuts is $2000 headphones. The HD 300 Pros are worth it for the price, IMHO. Much better than many headphones that cost much more.
