- ORLANDO, Fla. -- Mike Hughes 95-yard kickoff return with 1:28 remaining was the difference as No. 12 UCF completed the first unbeaten regular season in program history with a wild 49-42 victory over No. 19 USF on Friday to clinch the American Athletic Conference's East Division title.
The Knights (11-0, 8-0 AAC, CFP No. 15) will host Memphis in the conference title game on Dec. 2.
Hughes' touchdown capped a crazy 53-second span where the Knights took an eight-point lead, South Florida tied it and then the Knights took the lead for good.
The Bulls (9-2, 6-2) tied it at 42 when Quinton Flowers connected with Darnel Salomon for an 83-yard touchdown, and then found D'Ernest Johnson for a 2-point play. Flowers finished with 605 yards of total offense.
On the ensuing kickoff, Hughes found an opening on the right side and scored.
South Florida drove to midfield late, but Mitchell Wilcox fumbled and it was recovered by Chequan Burkett.
McKenzie Milton was 29 of 44 for 373 yards and four touchdowns.
UCF led 21-7 late in the first quarter but South Florida took a 34-28 lead with 3:41 remaining in the game on Flowers' 24-yard touchdown run, which marked the first time this season that the Knights had trailed in the second half.
UCF has scored 30 points or more in every game this season, which is the longest streak in the nation.
Flowers threw for a career-high 503 yards (24 of 45, four touchdowns) and ran for 102. He had 348 yards alone in the first half with five completions of 30 yards or more.
Tryre McCants had already set a USF single-game receiving record with 6 minutes remaining in the first half. The junior had 227 yards on nine receptions, including a 55-yard touchdown. The previous record was 191 yards by Andre Davis in a 2012 game at Nevada. McCants previous career high was 105 yards against SMU last season.

Me too, this was just on the tv while I was doing my homework. I only got to watch the last 7 minutes of the game, when ucf was still losing and it was more entertaining than any Seahawks game I've watched. (I'm from Washington)

Espn ranked it the #3 game of the year. 1 and 2 were CFB playoff game and national championship game. So best regular season game according to ESPN, I’ll take it
I don't regularly watch football but I remember watching this game at a tavern and this was the most entertaining football game I've ever seen. Everyone inside was going crazy. That was a great game.
I was at the game, I am a USF Bull through and through and I'm proud of my team. Can't be mad when the deciding play happened in the last two minutes. We played a hell of a season and UCF should be proud for their best season ever, they earned the win.

No shame for USF in losing this game. I was watching this live and I couldn't been believe how this game went. One of the most fun games I've seen in a long time.

Just because a program is in the power 5 doesn't make it better than a program not in the power 5. If UCF, USF, Houston, and Memphis were in the Big Ten they would consistently destroy teams like Illinois, Indiana, and Minnesota and would play Ohio State and Michigan hard.

They clearly added crowd noise when USF scored to make this a better clip. Just ask anyone who was there at the game. I only saw a handful of USF fans and when USF scored there was no loud cheering just silence. ⚡️🔛

This was already one of the top attended games at UCF's stadium, even the game a year later at Raymond James Stadium drew 57,626 people (I was one of them), more than the average Succaneers game!

I'm honestly surprised, even though the game was obviously rigged, USF still managed to keep the score close to UCF. Too bad they ended up losing, they played so well, but the referees wouldn't bother flagging the other team for obvious penalties. And before any of you UCF fans start coming at me calling me a salty USF fan, I'm not a fan of either one of those teams.
the game came down to the last minute, every score, turnover, flag becomes irrelevant and it depends on who makes plays. the refs didn't make USF not stop the punt return
Ryan Plones the game was amazing but the penalty difference in the teams are apparent. USF had multiple Pi's that should been called and put them in Scoring position . I do certainly believe their was a bias
There was definitely some missed holds and a really bad block in the back on UCF. Refs also called some awful personal fouls. Definitely rigged in favor of UCF, and I'm a neutral fan
