At this point, Superman has become a joke character of his own company (DC). I get turning a superhero evil one time for shock purposes, but DC has gone to that well way too many times. This makes Superman untrustworthy as we would have to determine which Superman will show up.

    • @warlord8106
      @warlord8106 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

@@theedspage Agreed and this disrespects everything Jerry siegel and Joe schuster created Superman to be. Back during the great depression when the rich were getting richer and the poor were getting poorer and constantly being preyed on by those in power, they created superman to being light to a dark world, inspiration and escapism. He was created to be the absolute antithesis to the ideology that power corrupts and to stand as the literal champion of the common man.
Then you get idiots shallow minded mentalities that say superman would be better off as a villian simply because he is do powerful.Yet there are dozens of characters in the dc franchise either equally or more powerful than him.
And the means by which they turn superman evil are pretty cheap and have been explored in stories that were created to test superman's morals and his character and he still remained true to who he was. Kill lois lane, read ending battle and emporer joker to see a realistic portrayal of how that turns out.

I agree, plus I would also say that evil Superman has become so common that it's actually cliche. All they need to do to keep him current is to make him care about the subjects that people care about nowadays. They don't need to make him edgy, they don't need to make him cool, all they really need to do is have him care about today's issues, and people find him relatable.

it goes to show that injustice, the boys,Invincible etc don't understand superman and are parodying only the surface level face of supermanm(the fact that Omni-man resembles Goku more Clark does speaks volumes in of itself.). Clark's constant battle with the need to do right or wrong is what makes him so compelling. Clark is a character that is constantly facing his demons. that's one of the many reasons why Batman and Superman are the ying and yand of DC comics and why the two of them get along the most out of the justice league because they're personal journeys are effectively the exact same. While Batman is only human he much like Superman has the ability to end all of his villains and crush any opponent with ease if they just gave into that darker desire but they don't and that is what makes them so compelling. once superman or batman looses that Character angle they become boring and predictable. hence why DCEU batman sucked and why every evil version of superman sucks.

The boys creator claims his comic is a deconstructionist story about superheroes in general, but all it really is, is him just making his heroes terrible people and nothing to actually say about superheroes.
He could have done something great, like actually critique supermans naive simplistic views and how his overly idealistic ways don't work in the real world
Showed his homelander as being able to hear everything, yet chosing to only save some people. That could have been used to show that superman does infact choose who and who not to save no matter how much he says he doesn't
It could have shown things like having to choose between letting his lover and his family die to save innocents and actually dealing with it or him being face with having to choose between a school full of children and staff and thousands of people in a burning building somewhere else or something like that, instead of being written as a someone who can "always find a way!"
It could have showed a less shallow and more realistic take on depression and suicide with him trying to truly help a teen with a sh*t life who's given up on everything instead of just giving her platitudes like "you are stronger than you think" like Superman does
But no, he just wanted to create a story that has nothing intelligent to actually say about superheroes
Omni-Man is not even meant to be a critique of superman, just a different character with a similar alien history.

Injustice Gods Among Us: Joker tricks "Superman" into murdering his wife and unborn child which triggers a nuclear bomb blowing up Metropolis killing over 11 million people. This "Superman" then immediately flies and punches his chest through Joker's chest instantly killing him. Then this "Superman" or really Homelander with an S on his chest becomes Stalin and builds gulags and armies of stormtroopers to rule the planet with an iron fist. This "Superman" engages in a 5 year civil war against Batman killing many of his own friends that he's know for years. God this story is garbage!
Emperor Joker: Joker tricks Mxyzptlk into give him all of his Godlike powers to control and manipulate all of reality which he uses to kill Batman over and over again and twist existence into his own image. Joker snaps his fingers killing everyone Superman has ever known and love including Lois, Jimmy, his parents, the Justice League, and Batman again trying to break Superman's will and mind to force him to kill. Superman never gives in and never gives up and never compromises his morals or kills the Joker in order to save all of existence even though Batman himself was broken and wanted Joker to die. Joker with just a snap of his fingers unleashed everything that could possible break the Man of Steel only to strengthen Superman's resolve which inspires all of his friends. This story by the way is canon and shows why Superman is still the greatest superhero of all time. Superman defeated the Joker with Godlike powers to control existence itself and despite losing Lois, his parents, and all of his friends, Superman never gave up or lost hope and continued to resist Emperor Joker. Superman is the ultimate symbol of Hope and all that is good. Throughout this story Joker's is continuously humiliated by Superman who refuses to accept the reality Joker created and his defiance is a rallying cry for the other heroes to rediscover their hopes. Batman is killed and resurrected over and over again having to live with the memories of torment and pain after being killed and resurrected so many times by Emperor Joker. Batman is literally Joker's chew toy throughout this entire story and the rest of the Justice League are transformed into hilarious caricatures of themselves like Wonder Woman being a housewife, Aquaman being a literal fish, Martian Manhunter becoming shorter resembling Marvin the Martian from Looney Tunes, and the Flash being fat and obsessed with junk food. There was a point near the end where Joker gave Superman a chance to truly kill him ending his rule over existence which Superman outright refused because it's what Joker would want and this was after Joker killed Lois and the entire Justice League. This pissed off Joker who decided to straight up kill Superman but cannot because he's losing his grip on his powers. Joker decides to destroy the entire universe so Superman on his own needs to discover the rules that Joker plays by in order for him to lose Mxyzptlk's powers before it's too late. Superman being the greatest hero of all time beats Godlike Joker at his own game using his wits and exploiting Joker's obsession and insecurities with the Batman causing Joker to doubt his own ability. Joker can't get rid of Batman no matter how many times he kills him or wills him out of existence because Joker's life and existence is meaningless without Batman which causes the Joker to lose his powers which return to Mxyzptlk and he, Superman, and Spectre repair and fix the entire Universe back to what it was before this whole horrifying event. Batman however had to live with all the trauma of being killed in so many gruesome and painful ways and is literally a broken shell of a man. Superman being the true hero and friend that he is has the Spectre take all of that traumatizing PTSD out of Batman and implant them into Joker who is drooling on the floor at Arkham Asylum. And Batman fanboys still think Batman is better than Superman LOL. Batman not only lost to the Joker but lost his morals and became insane wanting Superman to kill Joker to end it all. This story proves Superman is truly incorruptible and this story came out in the year 2000!
And there are people who still think Injustice is a good portrayal of Superman and the Justice League? LOL It's a horribly written story that perverts and bastardized the characters that everyone knows and loves for the sake of being dark and edgy.

When I was but a wee little lad I thought I was Superman I even walked around in a Superman cape until the age of like 3 or 4 and I would watch the Christopher Reeve Superman 1 and Superman the animated series and the Max Fleischer Superman even though my dumb little kid brain didn’t understand a thing that was going on I loved it but I did and still do see a lot of myself in Clark Kent and that’s why it’s so disheartening to see Superman be evil or dark and edgy all the time because the people working on them don’t know how to handle him like Henry Cavil has so much potential and probably knows more about Superman than Zack Synder and he’s just wasted and I think the reason why so many people dislike Superman is A how he’s portrayed in the movies and games Synder verse, injustice, ext or B they’ve become Lex Luther like every time I hear a comic book fan say they don’t like Superman they sound like Lex Luther and that just makes me sad because like they say that the “build a better tomorrow thing” makes them sick and they laugh at Superman’s optimism and that’s why I love moments when it feels like Superman is directly responding to these people specifically the moment he is told “you’re living in a dream world” and hearing how Superman responds always puts a smile on my face “good dreams save us dreams lift us up and transform us into something better and on my soul I swear that until my dream of a world where dignity honor and justice are a reality we all share I will never stop fighting ever” I think if we could all be a little more like Superman just maybe the world would be a better place

Spectracle Creep, I see that a lot in DBZ lately, especially in DBZ Super. Like at first, Goku had to fight some members of his race, then a genocidal alien who blows up entire worlds and who sent the said members of his race after Goku and his friends. Then a bunch of androids and a mutant bug man who had samples of all the heroes's DNA. Then a pink monster who was awakened by a crazed alien wizard and could wipe out mankind just like that.
But then we have DBZ Super, where now the threat is a literal pissed off god, then multiple pissed off gods, whom they raise the stakes to obliterating entire universes because they need less to manage, or stuff like a guy wishing to become a literal universe himself, but yet at the detriment to all the other characters though. Just raise the stakes higher and higher but at the cost of the characters.

Cap was Hydra. Fans didn't like it, so it was written that he thought he was Hydra. Either way, we still lived to see Captain America say "hail Hydra"
Hulk has his mindless mode and his professor mode.
Wolverine has a heart of gold, but also has that savage mode and a blood soaked past.
Wonder Woman killed children in the comics.
    Jean Grey has Dark Phoenix
    Professor X became Onslaught
    Spider-man has black suit Spider-man.
Metal Gear Solid Rising Revengence, Raiden has "Jack the Ripper"
Xena the Warrior Princess was a villain before she was good.
Angel the Vampire has his soul and then has the version of himself as Angelous where he is a Vamp with no soul.
Heck!! Even Dark Wing Duck has an alternate reality where Goslyn went missing and he became super strict and militant and more of an enforcer than a peacemaker.
You make a great point and while Evil Superman is overused, I do not think Evil Superman should not be. Every major superhero has an evil version or an evil side or an evil past that haunts them. I think it serves as a reminder that it's a good thing they are on our side and that ANYBODY can lose their way. But not all who wander are lost.

And by the 2000's, CEOs were promoting the image of "doing more" in contributing back to the world and being the front men of their company in terms of ethics. So Tony had to basically push himself as the front man to his own company, hence putting himself as the front man to Iron Man too. And now that the world is still buying into the hype of elon musk "activist" type of tycoons who publicize every act of charity and social responsibility performed for further clout, it's stuck to Tony Stark to never look back in terms of "doing more" with what he can do. Which in his case means staying prominently as Iron Man in the public eye.
Robert Downey Jr. definitely helped in giving the character a far more interesting personality that reasonably would refuse to hide behind a secret identity due to hubris and attention seeking, but the shift towards a public Iron Man was kind of in the works already."

You can measure yourself and your friends to certain standards without religion.

    • @ComicCrash
      @ComicCrash  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sure. May I suggest that, perhaps, religion is something broader than attending a church system and is an accountability to something higher. What "something higher" is is less important than making sure it's defined. What are those standards to measure against and WHY should they be?
I'm never a supporter of following a religion or belief system blindly. The most important question that everyone needs to ask about any belief system is "why is it like this" and relying on faith that answers will come shouldn't be a passive plan and should be acted on; ideally through direct conversation and careful (i.e. prayerful) consideration .
But if an established system (i.e. a religious system or "church") does well for you and it encourages you to deepen your understanding both in and outside of that system, then that's a good place to be. Atleast for the time.
But like I said, it's a topic that should be discussed somewhere other than a channel about comic books and stuff 😉.

It feels like everything coming out with Superman aside from the comics usually portrays Clark as a villain (other than Superman and Lois) which just makes me sad. Superman is tied with Batman for my favorite hero so it just hurts seeing how he’s fallen. I think to bring him back to his old status as top dog they need to reboot him for a movie just like they’re doing for Robert Pattinson’s Batman.

I don’t like the idea of turning Superman evil. It feels like ever since Injustice, the world has this vision that Superman is a weak minded alien that will go crazy and turn evil if he loses a loved one. When in reality and how Superman was originally built was as a Symbol of Hope that although he’s an alien, he’s the most human and kind person on earth and is what everyone should strive to be. A kind, gentle, compassionate loving man who’s also the strongest being on the planet. He’s supposed to be the person who shows the most restrain because he has the powers of a god yet chooses to use his abilities for the benefit of everyone. He knows he can take whatever he wants but chose to become a public servant and hero because that’s what makes him happy and what his parents instilled in him. I see people say “that would be boring” but it wouldn’t, it’s just that it’s harder to make an interesting story for a non edgy hero but look at Spider-Man. He’s a lighthearted hero who shares a lot of values with Superman and he’s not only loved by fans but is also extremely commercially successful. Heck, Anime and Manga fans will know that the show My Hero Academia has the character of All Might. He’s universally loved and people say that he’s a great character and that he’s better than Superman when All Might is basically Japanese Superman or the original vision of Superman that has been loved and successful for almost over a century. In my opinion, Superman: The Animated Series and both Justice League Animated Series, handled his character in the best way and showed why he works as a character with his chill and self sacrificing nature. Also I feel it even hursts Batman because their friendship is interesting due to the duality of their characters. Batman is the mortal man that has reached such a level through hard work that he can stand together with the most powerful heroes but is haunted by his past and that makes him a Dark Symbol of Fear and Justice for criminals. Superman is the god that was given his powers through his heritage but chooses to stand among the civilians because he looks towards a bright future and that makes him a Symbol of Hope and Peace for the common people. This two people couldn’t be more different yet are are best friends and share a brotherhood because one completes the other and helps him stay grounded. Batman helps Clark see the cynical way of life and helps him not get discourage when his idealism fails. Superman helps Bruce see the optimistic way of life and helps him see that there’s a beautiful world beyond the crime infested streets of Gotham. Superman is not my favorite but I still really like him a lot and I’m tired of people and especially writers thinking they have to turn him into The Homelander to tell a compelling story.

The only evil Superman I need is the Injustice one. But not all heroes need to suffer to grow and develop. Suffering is what turned Superman evil in Injustice. And power levels are not what makes a hero, their personality does. And some heroes can alternate or overlap of those 2 types of heroes you've mentioned.
And Luke's struggle with the dark side never ends. It never ends for anyone. This is a very male concept that once demons are conquered, they will stay conquered. Sure he rejected the Dark Side in ROTJ, he's still scared of the darkness in himself and everyone just as he was on Dagobah. So that's consistent with him. The problem is that the person you see Luke as does not exist. Luke is not an inspirational hero. He's an overlap of the two types. And he IMMEDIANTLY regretted igniting his saber. but unlike the 2nd Death Star, this time it was too late. Heroes can fail, that's the theme of TLJ. The greatest teacher, failure is.

A Batman vs Evil Superman does have some potential to explore their relationship and dynamic. It’s more or less not a Batman fighting Superman rather Batman surviving Superman and trying to snap his friend out of it. The person that each of them truly trusts is each other. That being said Hush screwed up a lot in that regards. Actually the entire shared Animated Universe failed to establish their friendship. A World’s Finest movie wouldn’t have been so hard wouldn’t it.

Very well done sir. I've often thought of Superman as the place where religious heroes i.e Jesus went to hide because the world was scrubbing itself clean of any religion, generally to the world's detriment.
I mean, Jesus has two nature's, divine and human. Superman is both Clark Kent (human) and Superman (divine.)
Kal El is his name and El is a Hebrew prefix meaning God as in the words Elshaddai and Elohim.
It's not a coincidence he was written by two jews fleeing an increasingly oppressive Germany.
There are even coming can where Superman is crucified on a kryptonite crucifix, so this comparison is not lost on others writers.

At the end of the first game, Superman does make a triumphant appearance. seeing good Superman and bad Superman together really showed just how good Superman really is at his core. The difference between the two in Injustice is similar to the difference between Superman and Justice Lords Superman. they're similar, but the resolve of Good superman is what makes the difference.
a Superman who choses evil is missing a fundamental part of the character by it's very nature and that's what's so frustrating. Evil Superman requires a base misunderstanding of who Clark is in order to exist.
