I really love the more limited palette and build style in Beta, most builds in modern Minecraft just blend together for me because they're all the same super-detailed builds with depth and smooth palettes. On the other hand, this is what I've observed from builds in Beta: - They tend to use the world itself - They heavily lean towards using blocks according to what they're meant to be, rather than their color. Meanwhile, a lot of builds in modern Minecraft use random blocks that wouldn't typically belong in what the build is meant to represent (e.g, mud walls/floors in a mansion because they're brown). - IF the build needs something that isn't in the game, it's approximated creatively. E.g, sign chairs, wool curtains, flat-screen TVs made of black wool with noteblocks to the sides with trapdoors on them, etc. - This is more of a gameplay thing, but they feel WAY bigger since the player wasn't able to move or fly super fast like in modern Minecraft
Wow, yeah, that is true! :D I like both buolding styles very much. I just love the complexities of modern building, in strong contrast to the simplicity of beta. In modern building, I can manipulate every little detail, even use the debug stick if I feel fancy to create the most detail. And if I need a break from all that, I can always return to beta, where I dont really need to think. I can just sort of do and have fun. :D
THIS! Beta building mostly followed the lay of the land and didn't try to terraform half the world to fit the build but rather adapt the build to the world. This is both because it was way harder to terraform massive stretches of land then (which was a good thing), but also because the natural terrain gen was much more interesting and players appreciated that. Once it switched to a semi "realistic" type of terrain people very quickly started to treat it as disposable.
@@dicecard921 yeah! that makes sense! :D the more realistic terrain was just boring and it's understandable that people kinda stopped using the terrain itself. :D
i find this opinion to be very ironic. simply because the game is giving you more options, does not mean you need to use them. it is fascinating that people do not set up that challenge or limitation for themselves. over Covid we had an SMP world where i found my self obsessing to be efficient like most modern minecrafters and doing these huge builds i need to collect every resource for. its exhausting and eventually makes the game less enjoyable. i recently started a world and have taken a different approach; treating it as we played it back in older versions, with more limits, or rather, instead of scrambling to gather every resource, making little builds with whatever blocks we have on hand, and connecting them with not as efficient roads and minecarts. you can quite literally play beta minecraft in modern minecraft. especially with resource packs. the world gen is just too good.
@@cinnamonroll5659 i just recently plan to do just that on my series! and try to compare it to other builds in that smp later on heres my idea, Make a theme for that place, try to adapt the terrain and lastly try to builds with thing in hand to limit the palletes and try to improve or bridge the difference of each build because later on we had more resource we can lazly gather(aka semi creative mode as docm said in one of his hermitcraft s4 or s5) obviously by the end of season where we can almost gather anything we can renovate those older builds without changing the theme or even color palletes
I love the ingenuity in a lot of Minecraft beta builds, i remember when people would dispense fish into ice blocks to make aquariums, and make slab floors to build sleeping bags. I feel like it really makes sense why “Build hack” tutorials were so prevalent back then. People wanted to build so much but they had so little to work with. I remember being so amazed when people used trapdoors for flower pots and now that seems so simple
Something about building in beta is that.. for the most part- you can start building what you want RIGHT AWAY. As in, the easiest to obtain resources are usually also, simultaneously, endgame resources. Lots of builds utilize cobble, and there's only 1 type of wood (planks), for example. No need to go looking for special blocks all the way across the world. It's simple.
The limited block palette of beta leads to more imagination/creativity and makes it so everyone building different things are using similar palettes, making totally different builds look cohesive and nice looking next to each other!
The crazy thing is u can do all this in modern Minecraft to just limit yourself to the blocks and building techniques u mentioned in this video i built a stone house with 2 towers with netherack as the roof and looks so good in my bedrock world with classic texture pack👀
I disagree. It think that building stuff that looks good in beta is actually easier because the more simplistic world means that more simplistic builds look better. This is objective of course.
I've been playing some Better Than Adventure in beta 1.7.3, and it's been a nice middle ground of the simplicity and charm of beta, and the options and quality of life changes of later versions.
As someone who started playing in beta 1.7.3, this video hit a very strong nostalgia nerve for me, and Im so hyped to see it getting some love still. Thank you for making it, and the quality of production is beautiful.
Ohhhh, wow, so you are a minecraft veteran veteran. That's so cool! :D Well, I hope I hit the good, happy nostalgia nerve and not the sad one! :) also thanks so much! I put alot of time into the editing! :D
@@Nettom_Minecraft Oh yeah, this game has had a hold on me for a loooong time lmao. Seems like no matter how old I get, I never lose interest in Minecraft, just take periodic breaks for a while. And I'd say somewhere in the middle, so more bittersweet yk? Definitely not bad. I haven't thought much about the version I started playing in for a while now so its really nice to have it brought back to the front of my mind and remember how it made me feel back then. And the time you put into the video shows well. I definitely enjoyed it and will absolutely be checking out more of your content fam ^^
@@thegalaxydragon9199 Thank you so much! I never loose intresst in the game as well! It will probably end up being my gane for live. I am glad you enjoyed my little video and thanks for sticking around! :DDD
I've always played in solo creative, but survival play has taught me one interesting difference. Between beta and current versions, the more stuff they add, the more and more time is spent trying to acquire the desired building blocks, and then experimenting with those endless building blocks. Beta had a very limited pallete like you said, and the amount of usage certain items would get was staggering as compared to modern versions. Its a weird paradox where I feel like older versions had more creativity going in to them, because there was just more time allotted for building rather than resource gathering. I guess that is something I miss from the older versions. Just building rather than tinkering (and at times fighting) with the shear intricacy of options and details now available.
Yeah! You explained that so well! That is sort of how I feel sometimes. Not all the time, I love my modern creative building with all the details I can come up with, but sometimes... sometimes it's too much, and I spend most of my time looking for the right blocks instead of just building. In survival even more. I need to gather things before I can build things. I dont even mean basic materials like stone or wood, more like quartz, copper blocks, or any other more late game blocks. I have so much respect for people who can build in survival like they do in creative mode.
Yeah this is pretty much how I feel a lot of times with modern MC. It isn't horrible, but sometimes it's really annoying to find the blocks that you want in survival, and then on top of that fighting with the direction blocks get placed in now (don't get me wrong it's a nice feature and when you do it enough eventually you get used to it, but as someone who played before stairs and logs were capable of being rotated, it's really annoying when you aim a direction and you think you're looking correctly and end up a pixel off and it flips it the complete opposite way you wanted and then you have to waste time breaking the block/using dura on tools). I also realize this is just a subjective opinion, but older textures were just plain BETTER on a lot of stuff. Cobble, gravel, logs, sandstone, dirt, etc. Now it's hard for me to even consider using that type of stuff in modern MC cause it just looks uglier and there are so many other blocks to choose from, like, why even bother with basic cobble anymore? It leads me to decision paralysis and burnout a lot of times. I like simplicity and out of the box thinking. Even stuff like anvils. In beta if I want an anvil for a blacksmith workshop, I just dig a 1 block hole, put a fencepost in it, put 1 stone slab on top, and then one stone slab connected to the other and that makes an anvil. Now there's just a block for it. Sucks out some of the creativity imo.
The quality of this video is amazing coming from such a little channel ! I've just started my beta world a few weeks ago so I'll definitely stay around here. Good job!
What a lovely video. I loved being able to glimpse into how players thought and felt in the early stages of the game. Minecraft itself is such a testament to human creativity and desire to express.
Thank you so much! Yeah, true! :D I imagine in 100 years they'll dig up minecraft somewhere and be like: "ahhh, what a human thing to do. Wait, this game is awesome. we need to make a new version *insert random future slang word*."
I'm so happy beta Minecraft has been getting a lot of attention lately. A lot of beta let's plays have been showing up and I see more people talking about it. Personally I don't think I could ever go back to beta Minecraft because I think I do prefer the newer versions, and I think the only thing that would keep me going in older versions is pure nostalgia. But this video is exactly what I've been looking for. I've been really interested in trying to use this older style in my current 1.20 world
Yeah! I have a different video titled "How to make your builds nostalgic." Maybe that can help you even more because in that one, I had even more specific ideas on how to build in a nostalgic style. It's a bit older. The mic quality isn't that great, but maybe the video gives you more ideas! :D
I'm on a 1.12.2 server right now, and even that is miserable compared to the modern building experience. the block palate is incredibly limited, and not having different types of trapdoors, missing the modern textures, and plenty of other things makes it incredibly difficult to use the style I've grown comfortable with. this limitation has, however, forced me to experiment more with styles and designs, which I find incredibly satisfying to figure out
1.12.2 was the last version that didn't feel like a mod. Anything since (feature wise, and texture wise) has just felt like modded Minecraft. (that said, that is how it felt _to me_ personally, a player who has been playing MC since the early Alpha versions came out)
I love how you addressed the idea of challenge. Many builders today will go above and beyond with super elaborate builds. While building that way obviously involves a great amount of creativity, and challenge, it's still refreshing to see you go out and do something genuinely different. You have taken the idea of challenge and interpreted it in your own unique way! I love seeing how people view this game from so many different perspectives.
I started playing in Beta. I found that my creativity and building ability peaked around 2012-2013. I took a couple years off of the game and when I came back, I couldn't build anything interesting. I was so overwhelmed by the number of colors, textures, and decorations, I could never decide on a palette or how to incorporate them. The simplicity of older versions made it so that you just had to make it work.
Great video! for me i don't really like building , i like having fun in mutiplayer servers , but i discovered a new sort of gamemode for solo worlds! i call it the "Traveler" gamemode you basiclly find a cool place to build , finish the build , and walk away to find a new cool place! don't save coords, just put it there and go do somethin else! it can be small builds like a tent , a dirt hut , or big builds like a castle! sry for the long comment lmao btw u got 2 subs! (me and my alt)
Wow, that's such a cool gamemode Idea! :D I really like reading longer comments. No worries! Also, thank you so much for the 2 subscriptions. :) I hope you enjoy your time here on the channel. :D
i feel like for me this wasnt just about 1.7.3 building but for building in any version, time or place. to just have fun with what im doing, and learning different techniques to apply in a build. thank you for this, its really helped me have a better point of view of minecraft.
Yeah, exactly! That was a point I was trying to make. I am not sure if it was the most obvious thing. I tried to make the video in a way where, apart from the differences between beta and modern, you could just replace beta with any other minecraft version. :) It's really just a building inspiration video. :D
@@Nettom_Minecraft that response made me realize you have about 1k subs and you're underrated. I'm helping the cause of lifting you up a bit. Sub goes brrrr...
This video is so well put together, and I love your style of presenting. I have always been a massive advocate for building in the early versions of the game because of the creativity and imagination that goes into such builds, even going as far as building in indev and classic to really challenge myself. This video explains all those ideas so well. A subscription well earned! :D I hope this channel goes far!
Thank you so much! :D I love Beta so much, but I haven't tried indev before. It seems like such a challenge. But I definitely want to build in all the versions that minecraft has to offer! Every version of the game is a bit different, and there are so many cool things to do. Thank you so much for subscribing! :D I hope you enjoy your time on the channel! :)
This randomly showed up in my recommended. I rarely get time to play the game but it always lingers in my mind. I've never actually played beta because i bought the game really late and never checked it out. But it feels nostalgic to me aswell. I watched Grian's EvoSMP series a little bit and my favorite part was how even though beta is really dark in its lighting the night sky is filled with a lot of stars. It just feels dreamy. Also i love how you used the in game music in this video. Keep it up!
I really adore this video!! Its so refreshing seeing people embrace the strengths that minecraft has always had, at each stage of it's development cycle - without complaining about how minecraft "isnt fun anymore". I think your point about challenge making things more fun is really interesting!! Creative restrictions are fantastic and it encourages us to see things in a new light, and to find new ways to create. Fantastic video!
Gradients are so popular in modern building & I thought taking them back to beta was a really interesting idea. I think this video proves that it's not just the game that's given better blocks, but the players ideas about building have improved over the years too.
I grew up with Minecraft lite (rest in peace) and still build as if I was there! I love my wool couches and torches and full-block glass, and I hoard clay, bricks, and mossy cobble because to me they’re so valuable! I can’t remember the last time I saw one of my friends use a painting. I need a limited palate to be creative, and I’m so glad building in beta is still thriving!
It’s always a joy to find such great content from a small TH-camr. I hope you get more attention for what you’re doing because you genuinely deserve more than just 500 subscribers.
I've been playing Minecraft off and on since 2009. The alpha/beta style of building is heavily grounded by survival mode where building materials were based on what a thing should be built out of, small house out of wood, castle out of rock, manor out of wood and rock etc. Texturing wasn't really used in survival because it often looks like a mess up close, and didn't make sense from a world building perspective. We used shape instead of texturing to add detail. The terrain generator is the best part of beta 1.7.3 there's always some unique terrain to inspire a build. Also this is the last version of Minecraft to be a pure sandbox, there's no villagers, raids, or structures polluting the world so you can make up your own lore and world building stories. I used stories to inspire builds in my oldest surviving alpha map. It might be as simple as who lives in this house, are they rich? how many kids?. To the more in depth hidden cult of the creeper, or why was this city built in the middle of a desert in the first place?
I started my 1.7.3 beta world this year like 1,5 week ago and I loooove the simplicity of this version. It's by far one of ma favourite versions of minecraft. The fact that you have to be creative with what you have it does help with your imagination quite a lot. I love doing some mega builds on my survival beta world, mega mines, simple roads with cobblestone and smooth slabs and glowstone lamps on fences with trapdoors, and after building all of that I like to look on the progress from a high elevation for a minute. It simply brings me so much joy ^.^ Love the video, It's my first time on this channel and I'm glad this video showed on my youtube page, insta subscribe
Hey, thanks so much! :D Yeah, beta is truly awesome. My channel is sort of about beta, but I also do some modern stuff, but yeah, I mainly just make beta things at the moment. :] Also, I am happy you like my voice. Thank you! :)
I love how you structured your videos! And the backgrounds are the coolest things ever!! Not only this, the video was full of interesting ideas that i never thought of and honestly, made me think more of how i build in Minecraft
About half a year ago, I have started a Better than Adventure! (Beta 1.7.3 fork mod) server, which I have kept online since. This world is filled with all kinds of builds of different scales, palettes and intricacy of design, stretching far from spawn. While BTA! builds might look "worse" than modern MC ones, they have a strong charm and you appreciate the creative solutions used in them more. Due to the slow movement everything is closer together, which makes exploring the world and finding all kinds of different builds fun. Having personally been fully burned out by modern MC a few years back, BTA! is what made me love and play (Beta) Minecraft again.
Great Video! I like playing beta from time to time, because I often get overwhelmed by the amount of options for building in modern Minecraft. In beta, there are only a few blocks to choose from, and I know that my mind will fill in the blanks. It somehow makes it more creative. I think it is the same effect, that makes the radio example you showed so cool :)
8:23 when you brought up the “use your imagination” thing i got that ratatouille moment where i read magazines on how to make some things look like others.
I really like the limited palette more than the massive one we have today for a couple big reasons One is that with such a small amount of blocks and an even smaller amount that could reasonably be used well in a build, the world feels a lot more cohesive. Every build fits in with each other, but at the same time it doesn’t feel like there’s a lack of creativity In fact, I’d say the limited palette really helped push that creativity. So many modern builds I see feel like the same house with slightly different shapes and different blocks. But when you can’t rely on using a unique set of blocks, you need to focus on making your build itself unique. I remember back when I first started, I’d hop on servers and see airships and big villages and pixel art everywhere. Now, somehow it feels all too samey but also everything clashes, whereas in beta, everything would feel connected, but you really got to see everyone’s creativity on full display despite the limitations
Having built a little in 1.8, I have to say that it was interesting. I had to stretch every muscle and scramble for usable blocks, but still could maintain a modern ish vibe. Building in late beta is a whole different ballgame, and I think I'll try it, just to see if I can do it and what it turns into
Great video. I'm 28yo late starter who started playing minecraft since 1.16 came out. But I love beta builds because they have some genuine simplicity and creativity made with limited variaty blocks. I've never experienced the real beta age however I know why people keep saying beta is more "minecraft-y".
Thanks! :D Yeah, me too! I never experienced beta when it came out so many years ago, but I can appreciate it for what it is. It's just a simpler version of minecraft. :D
Hello, I just saw your channel for the first time and really thought you had more subscribers. The video is great. Congratulations on the almost 50k views in a week and all the subs you got. You earned them. (And you are reading all the comments. Nice 👍) I myself never played the version(I think) and might never see this channel again but I wish you the best of luck on your continuing journey as a content creator 😊
one thing that always comes to mind when making something good looking in beta is to build big. the bigger the scale, the smaller the grid. not only that, but people in modern minecraft always prefer compact things so it's really a breath of fresh air
Really great video!!!! Awesome transitions, love the way you use wonderful colors to place words, the way you used Minecraft music as background music is just beautiful. Really, outstanding work here! ☺️
This is edited very well! I just started playing beta 1.7.3. I am playing with the Aether mod installed, so I'll have a slightly wider selection of blocks.
Good video! I love building in Minecraft 1.0 (well 1.1 for qol) but I love the simplicity, the restricted pallet makes you think more and experiment with blocks you wouldn't normally use. its always nice to see the community
This was a really great video! I've been thinking more and more about getting back into Beta Minecraft. I started with Beta 1.6 back in the day and have a ton of really fond memories of those pre-1.0 versions (I stopped playing around 1.0 and didn't pick the game back up until around 1.15). Recently I went back and watched season 1 of Etho Plays Minecraft, and it reignited a lot of that nostalgia. So thanks for giving me more confidence to build in Beta, since it's the aspect I'm the most worried about when getting back into it :)
OOF!! its so good to really understand a thoughtful artist using a older version of minecraft and pull it off so well; applauds to you and keep up the gw :3 its prty wholesome
Thank you so much! I appreciate it! :D I am glad you enjoyed my little video! :) I came up with the idea for the video because I am a builder, and I realised how different beta building (or even beta anything) can be from modern building. And since a lot of new people are joining the beta community, I thought they might need some tips. I am still learning myself how to build in beta, and it's so fun to come up with ideas and stuff! :D
I want to thank you for this video. I enjoyed it so much! I started playing in the alpha versions and even met some cool friends playing on servers way back then. I have several worlds in different versions and Beta 1.7.3 is my favorite older version by far (mostly for the natural leaf decay I don’t get in alpha 1.2.6) This video helps me a lot when going back in time and readjusting to the beta building limitations.
Given how calm and friendly your general vibe is, if you were to gather a community, they would be really friendly, can you please make a discord channel for your fans? Id love to interact with such people
Helllloooo! :D You were one of the people who asked for a discord server. I just wanted to inform you, it's almost done. Should go public in a few days. :D
Very well edited, and I've been looking for more Beta-centric Minecraft content The new stuff builders do is neat, like the texturing and making gradients out of loads of blocks and stuff, but I feel a bit of a pressure to make super complex stuff now because of that. Like idk it feels like we have a higher standard now for builds if that makes sense. Although of course I'm the only person who's gonna make me do those things, nobody's forcing me but.. But as a result of that I've been drawn recently to more simple, sort of classic Minecraft building styles, so it's neat you're bringing this sort of thing to light. Very cool vid
Thank you so much. :D I do feel very similar to you. I want to return this year to a bit more modern minecraft content, but beta has definitely grown on me to be that "second minecraft." That more simple Minecraft. If I ever need a break from all the blocks and all the complexity. I can come to this and just chill. It's like a little break. Or like a vacation. Modern minecraft, if you take away all the nostalgia, is a great game, and beta minecraft is a great game, too. It kinda feels like they are 2 different games, but the same franchise... :)
@@Nettom_Minecraft I’m glad we can still play older versions of Minecraft relatively easily since it’s changed so much. Yeah I do still play modern versions the most, but building in beta is a lot more fun if I’m in the mood for it
honestly this video is great for any new builder, beta or not. I've been building for a few years now and i never learned how to properly build a circle. I'd always use world edit or just try my best if it was small enough.
Thank you so much! Yeah, I also feel nostalgic even tho I started playing in 2013. It's so weird how that works. But beta minecraft is just awesome. That's probably why. :D
i love beta builds, i never got to play in beta since its java only and i dont have a computer but i wish id be able to play it one day! especially after EVO, its a good series

I've been playing b1.5_01 for quite a bit now, and I've been experimenting as much as I can. This is an incredibly well-made video! Your color palette stuff has helped me visualize the possibilities. Thanks!
I feel like the reason i like building in beta is how nice it feels to not have as much choices. It sounds weird but in 1.20 sometimes i get stressed wondering if there's a better choice i couldve made. Maybe another block has the same color, but a different texture that would complement the build a little better. Maybe theres a better way to arrange my stairs and slabs. Thinking this way after a build kinda removes some of the satisfaction. But in beta, youre pretty much certain that there are very few other ways to build the thing that you built. And it kinda feels nice knowing that
its honestly insane how some of the most beautiful and inspiring videos ive come across are from some of the most criminally underrated channels. you deserve way more views, keep pumping the good vids bro. :)
Thanks! I tried my best! I wanted to make it even better, but I didn't really have that much time anymore! But the next video is gonna be even better, I hope! :)
@@Nettom_Minecraftit really is lovely! I dont play minecraft much nowadays, but I loved the video Btw, I would recommend trying to subtitle another method, it seems so tiring if you do it this way!
@randomfluffypup9608 I'm trying to subtitle as little as possible and add as many little scenes (like the ones with the signs, for example) as I can. But those also take a lot of time. I just chose a very resource intensive editing style. I'll try to find ways to make editing a bit easier for me. For example, I wanna rearrange my folders because 50% of the time when I edit is actually spent on looking for things in my files and its so annoying :'D

I'm glad you like them too! :] That is some really good advice! :D It's also cool that you still play xbox 360 minecraft! :D I played on the PS4 in 2014, and I got so sad when they made it into bedrock edition. @@nainosnoo1028 yeah! :D I think one is not better or worse because they like to build in a specific version of minecraft. That seems like a backwards way of thinking... The main goal of building is to have fun. :D
It's so wild to me as someone who started playing in alpha that there are lots of people who have to relearn how to build with beta limitations. That's not a bad thing, just something I never thought I'd see, since a lot of builders have always seemed to prefer the more modern versions of the game. There's also a lot of stuff in these videos that I never even thought about, but I find myself just doing by default since I grew up building basically just like this. I can't say I necessarily feel nostalgic for the building limitations of beta, but it's super neat seeing it still live on and somewhat have a resurgence among the fanbase. Largely so I can keep calling a crafting table a "workbench" and not have everyone in the chat get confused at what the hell a "workbench" is lmao
I started playing in minecraft 1.6, so the full release, and because I was really young, like 6 or 7 years old, I never really knew anything about beta minecraft. I just find it interesting that the more the older and newer versions become more different from each other, being completely different, the more likely it is that fanbases build around them. I really like beta as its own game, I sort of play beta for survival and modern for creative mode. :D Also, Workbench is a totally valid term for a crafting table, I even say it sometimes. :)
One of my favourite 1.7 era builders is Madnes64 on TH-cam. He also made what I think is a very iconic spawn area. Using that typical oak, stone and cobble pallet, but really really effectively.
I remember him, actually. I watched one of his videos where he built his iconic house design. It's been a long time since I have heard of him, and you just brought back a half forgotten memory. Thanks :D

i find this opinion to be very ironic. simply because the game is giving you more options, does not mean you need to use them. it is fascinating that people do not set up that challenge or limitation for themselves. over Covid we had an SMP world where i found my self obsessing to be efficient like most modern minecrafters and doing these huge builds i need to collect every resource for. its exhausting and eventually makes the game less enjoyable. i recently started a world and have taken a different approach; treating it as we played it back in older versions, with more limits, or rather, instead of scrambling to gather every resource, making little builds with whatever blocks we have on hand, and connecting them with not as efficient roads and minecarts. you can quite literally play beta minecraft in modern minecraft. especially with resource packs. the world gen is just too good.
@@cinnamonroll5659 i just recently plan to do just that on my series! and try to compare it to other builds in that smp later on
heres my idea, Make a theme for that place, try to adapt the terrain and lastly try to builds with thing in hand to limit the palletes and try to improve or bridge the difference of each build because later on we had more resource we can lazly gather(aka semi creative mode as docm said in one of his hermitcraft s4 or s5)
obviously by the end of season where we can almost gather anything we can renovate those older builds without changing the theme or even color palletes
Yeah, that is true. :D That's why I love Beta so much.
Yeah that is true! :D
The crazy thing is u can do all this in modern Minecraft to just limit yourself to the blocks and building techniques u mentioned in this video i built a stone house with 2 towers with netherack as the roof and looks so good in my bedrock world with classic texture pack👀
Any pre-resource pack update building is brave, but going this far back and delivering something good looking is nothing short of a miracle
Thank you so much! :D It's super hard to make something that looks decent. But thats why I like this version. Like I said, challenge. :)
What’s pre resource pack? Before resource packs there were texture packs. Or do uou mean developer textures?
@@Terandium I think they mean building with programmer art textures. :D
I love your guys hermitcraft recap videos!
I disagree. It think that building stuff that looks good in beta is actually easier because the more simplistic world means that more simplistic builds look better. This is objective of course.
Building in beta is like making art with a restrictive color palette.
It can be fun to play around with that
YEAH, exactly! :D It's a fun challenge :)
I've been playing some Better Than Adventure in beta 1.7.3, and it's been a nice middle ground of the simplicity and charm of beta, and the options and quality of life changes of later versions.
Yeah! I played some BTA for a while and I enjoyed it very much! :D
BTA is great! i'm in the process of building a castle and it's my biggest survival project ever!
i love bta so much. theyre adding sittable stools and flower jars in the next update thats coming next week, so even more building fun
I haven't thought much about the version I started playing in for a while now so its really nice to have it brought back to the front of my mind and remember how it made me feel back then. @@sudokuacrobatics Minecraft 1.7.3 - The Neck Snappy Update
Good job!
Thank you so much! I always try my best with the video quality! :D Thanks for staying around, and I hope you enjoy your time on the channel! :D
@@Nettom_Minecraft definitely checking that out next, thank you so much! Just subbed and so looking forward to more of your videos! 😁
SORRY FOR RESPONDING SO LATE. THANK YOU :D
@@Nettom_Minecraft dw about it! :D
I'm on a 1.12.2 server right now, and even that is miserable compared to the modern building experience. the block palate is incredibly limited, and not having different types of trapdoors, missing the modern textures, and plenty of other things makes it incredibly difficult to use the style I've grown comfortable with. this limitation has, however, forced me to experiment more with styles and designs, which I find incredibly satisfying to figure out
That is so cool! :D
1.12.2 was the last version that didn't feel like a mod. Anything since (feature wise, and texture wise) has just felt like modded Minecraft. (that said, that is how it felt _to me_ personally, a player who has been playing MC since the early Alpha versions came out)
@@PsychedeliKompot I feel the same way about new versions.
Thank you! Yeah, it's fascinating how everyone plays minecraft differently! :)
Yeah, exactly! That was the point I was trying to make. I still like modern, but only when I am really inspired, and I only play creative mode.
Using Mice on Venus to finish the video was a cheecky move! You know you got us nostalgicaly crying with it!
Yeeeaaaaaaaaaaah... :'D
Building in older versions had always made me enjoy the newer block texture's as they are softer compared to their older counterparts
Yeah true :D
This randomly showed up in my recommended. I rarely get time to play the game but it always lingers in my mind. I've never actually played beta because i bought the game really late and never checked it out. But it feels nostalgic to me aswell. I watched Grian's EvoSMP series a little bit and my favorite part was how even though beta is really dark in its lighting the night sky is filled with a lot of stars. It just feels dreamy. Also i love how you used the in game music in this video. Keep it up!
Thanks so much! :D I also watched Grian on EvoSMP, and it was the thing that inspired me to play beta initially. :D
I'm so glad people are getting back into beta minecraft!
Yeah, it's so cool to see something be enjoyed again after such a long time. Nobody could've predicted that. :)

Thanks so much. :D I am glad you enjoyed my video! :)
Rainbow WOO! :D
Gradients are so popular in modern building & I thought taking them back to beta was a really interesting idea. I think this video proves that it's not just the game that's given better blocks, but the players ideas about building have improved over the years too.
Yeah! :D
That is awesome! :D
It’s always a joy to find such great content from a small TH-camr. I hope you get more attention for what you’re doing because you genuinely deserve more than just 500 subscribers.
Thank you so much! I am seriously overwhelmed with all the attention this video is getting! :D AAAAAAAAA!
what a nostalgic video. the selection of music, editing style and overall aesthetic really made me feel like 10 years ago. thank you
I am glad you enjoyed it :)
Yeah, true! :)

That is super cool :D
This has been one of the best "Limitations breed creativity" videos I've seen. It has made my day, liked and subscribed.
Wow, thanks so much! :D
As someone that comes from the Beta days(and earlier) watching this video made me realize i STILL build in the beta style even in modern Minecraft.
Hey, that's super cool :D
I like that redstone torches glowed at one point. I wish they'd bring it back.
I wish you could toggle it like a texturepack. :D
I am a huge fan of your style in creating these videos. It's extremely unique and drew me in a lot. Keep it up!
Thanks so much! I will! :D
Thank you so much! I am glad you enjoyed it! :D You phrased it really nicely. :)
700 subs for this level of content is insane, someone get more people here NOW

Thanks so much! :D I am glad you like my video! I'm also really glad you like my builds! :D
8:23 when you brought up the “use your imagination” thing i got that ratatouille moment where i read magazines on how to make some things look like others.
AHAHAHHAHH :D THAT'S- that's funny. :D
You have a relaxing voice that really fits the atmosphere of the video
Wow, thanks so much! :D
As a person that started playing early in the Alpha, that was trip down memory lane
I really like the limited palette more than the massive one we have today for a couple big reasons
One is that with such a small amount of blocks and an even smaller amount that could reasonably be used well in a build, the world feels a lot more cohesive. Every build fits in with each other, but at the same time it doesn’t feel like there’s a lack of creativity
In fact, I’d say the limited palette really helped push that creativity.

The beta and alpha architectural style was so charming.
I agree :]
one thing that always comes to mind when making something good looking in beta is to build big. the bigger the scale, the smaller the grid. not only that, but people in modern minecraft always prefer compact things so it's really a breath of fresh air
Yeah that is true! :D thank you for commenting :)

I have several worlds in different versions and Beta 1.7.3 is my favorite older version by far (mostly for the natural leaf decay I don’t get in alpha 1.2.6)

Very well edited, and I've been looking for more Beta-centric Minecraft content
The new stuff builders do is neat, like the texturing and making gradients out of loads of blocks and stuff, but I feel a bit of a pressure to make super complex stuff now because of that.
Yeah I do still play modern versions the most, but building in beta is a lot more fun if I’m in the mood for it
But like I said nowadays when I build I go for more limited palettes like I’m playing beta and it’s honestly a lot more fun for me personally
honestly this video is great for any new builder, beta or not. I've been building for a few years now and i never learned how to properly build a circle. I'd always use world edit or just try my best if it was small enough.

Ayyyy hello! :) Thank you so much for your comment! I really like your builds! :) Knowing you liked my video makes me really happy. :D
I've been playing b1.5_01 for quite a bit now, and I've been experimenting as much as I can. This is an incredibly well-made video! Your color palette stuff has helped me visualize the possibilities. Thanks!
Thank you so much, I am glad I could help. :)
And it kinda feels nice knowing that
Ohhh yeah! :D that is true!
Awesome editing it's subtle but fun, kept me engaged throughout and I didn't even need the tutorial lol.
Thanks so much! I put alot of effort into the editing! :D
simply the bestest the coziest the warmest video i've seen in a loong time on yt like why the h*ck it's so good?!?+
THANK YOU SO MUCH :F
i got so moved by this thanks for bringing light to this aspect of he game
Thank you for taking the time to watch the video :D
its honestly insane how some of the most beautiful and inspiring videos ive come across are from some of the most criminally underrated channels. you deserve way more views, keep pumping the good vids bro. :)
Wow, thank you so much for this comment! :D
woah, this video seems delightfully edited
Thanks! I tried my best! I wanted to make it even better, but I didn't really have that much time anymore! But the next video is gonna be even better, I hope! :)
@@Nettom_Minecraftit really is lovely! I dont play minecraft much nowadays, but I loved the video
Btw, I would recommend trying to subtitle another method, it seems so tiring if you do it this way!
Nothing gives me more joy than building a stinky little Beta house with only oak and cobble in any version
Yeah! :D
Wonderfully put together video, i really enjoyed the way you explained the topic of building with limited resources, and how to get creative with them! :)
I love your little transition screen aswell, very simple, but very effective!
I often find that limited resources breeds creativity. I play xbox 360 Minecraft, and the limited world size and blocks to an extent forces me to be creative! I end up wanting to fill up my world too! The best advice i can give to anyone burnt out is to pick a space to fill up with builds, its fun :)
Thank you! I tried to explain it as simply as possible, and I wanted to spark some inspiration and creativity.
Yeah, the transition screens! I like them very much! I'm glad you like them too! :]
That is some really good advice! :D It's also cool that you still play xbox 360 minecraft! :D I played on the PS4 in 2014, and I got so sad when they made it into bedrock edition. I should boot up the PlayStation again sometime! :D
@@Nettom_Minecraft You're very welcome! You did a great job sparking my creativity :D
You should try playing PS4 edition again if you have the time! Its really fun to have a limited world instead of a infinite one. :) maybe round up a few friends if you can!
its such a shame there was never anything like that in bedrock tho.. :(
it feels way less overwhelming having a little sandbox of sorts to play in than an infinite world, everything feels more connected and lively
this video was stellar quality for a smaller channel. you're definitely gonna go big, you've found a great niche and you're stuff is really high quality :)
Thank you so much! I am not sure if I'll ever go big, but it would be so cool. :D Again, thank you so much! :)
Absolute banger of a video ^^, ending was phenomenal!
Thank you so much! I appreciate it! :DDD
@@Nettom_Minecraft ^^
your channel is extremally underrated
that part where you placed bedrock was too relatable LOL. when my friends and i first played minecraft together we were on this version with toomanyitems and a fly mod. my friend was designing his first build and used bedrock to pattern the floor. we didn't realize what he'd done until he was trying to redo his floor with a different pattern lmao
Ohhhhhhh nooooooooo :'D lol
grian build's better i see him build hes better
Seriously, your videos are genuinely very good. Your style reminds me a lot of SimplySarc and I love that.
I'm happy I found this channel.
Thank you! Yeah It is a but inspired by SimplySarc! :D
There was less blocks to choose, but players got more creative on how they use them
Yeah! :D
I like the way you speak, its comforting! Even the editing is friendly in nature. Im glad I found your channel, subscribing now
Love from Pakistan
Thank you so much! A few people seem to find my vibe comforting. I dont know why. :'D
But again thank you so much! :)
I personally like that your tone of voice is soft and how you didnt make it seem like you're better for opting to build on a more challenging version of the game@@Nettom_Minecraft
Thanks :D
Really well made video nice! Really captured the feel of building in beta.
I tried my best to do that! Also thank you so much! :D
