How to bleed brakes with a scan tool. No pumping necessary

Some vehicles with modern ABS systems are extremely hard to completely get all air out of the system using the conventional bleeding procedures. In order to completely get all air out and get a stiff pedal again you need to activate the valves in the abs actuator in order to release the air. In this video I show you how to do it on a Jeep Cherokee. It is a very similar procedure for other vehicles.

Manual brake bleed doesn't get air out of the abs module. You need to activate the module with scan tool to allow trapped air to exit.

I guess as long as the hose doesn't come off the bleeder valve you're okay then, right? Sounds a bit risky, to me, esp. if that rubber hose slips off the bleeder when you're tightening and loosening it.

Did you loose brakes all of a sudden or what is the reason you needed to bleed the system? Ford abs is very tricky, you need to bleed the master cylinder first, the. You manual/pressure bleed the system and finally do the auto bleed with the scanner. Repeat manual and auto bleed until you get a firm pedal

Do you think I should keep doing AUTOBLEED and manual bleed until pedal feels better? I have been doing this for about 2 hours, me and the wife. I am so tempted to buy a master cylinder but I want to AUTOBLEED to see. I read from a Chevy Tech that in my 2008 Impala, you CAN NOT do RR, LR, RF, LF. I would try autobleed and manual bleed one last time but I’d pedal doesn’t get any better you might have a bad master cylinder like you mentioned. Also, what is the reason you are bleeding the car? Did you do any work to the brake system or are you doing it because the pedal got soft for no reason?

You mean good pressure like the brake fluid flows clean - without bubbles, yes. Everything looks good to me. I was bleeding because I was doing a procedure that I thought would help my sporadic hard pedal - check this out below
      th-cam.com/video/273pA6VymgM/w-d-xo.html
My car was making this hard hissing noise, a noise that was very noticeable inside the car. It triggered a check engine light that read a lean condition, P0171. Everything that the guy discussed in the video was what I was experiencing. I bought that rubber piece he talked about in the video, I took a chance because I had a check engine that read a lean condition and plus I need to get my emissions done and they are not going to pass me with a check engine light. That's the whole story. When I reinstalled the master cylinder, I bled the lines on the master cylinder first - spongy pedal. That's when I realized that its a lot more I need to do.

This procedure basically bleeds the abs module only therefore it only opens up front and rear valves not necessary left and right. You should still manually bleed left side if you opened up that side.

Using the scanner to bleed the brakes is mostly necessary to get the air out of the ABS pump and on some vehicles it will only activate one side on the front and one on the rear. You should still bleed all 4 corners the old fashioned way with a vacuum or manually, however after using the scanner that should be very quick and easy.
