Old money style comes from old money lifestyle which only comes from access to the types of activities and places that come from generational wealth-large private properties/estates for country pursuits: equestrian, tennis, hunting for example. If one is not from old money, one shouldn’t try to dress that way because it will come off as artifice and affectation, because that’s what it is. Buy the best quality of whatever type of pieces YOU like that fit YOUR lifestyle. That’s the way to do it.

So are you saying if I don't have a horse, or member of golf club I don't deserve to look clean and classic with sophistication? I have pictures of my grandparents. They are wearing clean cut pants/tops, with long coats that have really define style, and the hats that put the entire outfit together. They were not wealthy, but they looked absolutely put together. It's not about having the luxury to own such pieces, but rather about learning to choose those timeless pieces that will, as Alice said, stand the test of time.

It's actually a countersignal, the working class in England used to dress like this. It's generic WASP fashion mostly from England and most WASPs are not rich.

This is wonderful content very well explained, Alice. 'Old Money' and 'Quiet Luxury' have been around for many decades, they have just become viral and gained popularity as trends in social media recently. I've always loved the timelessness, classic and understated elegance from both styles which Parisian/French Chic also applies on a daily basis. What I love the most is their minimalist approach, simplicity and discretion since it's about elegance where 'less is more', not to flaunt wealth that seem to scream "look at me, I'm rich!" with big designer logos all over. Investing in timeless classic staples in neutral colours and clean lines, well fitted garments in high quality materials is always guaranteed to enjoy stylish outfits for every ocassion for many years to come. Love all your outfits, that Chanel style jacket is so beautiful, you look so chic. Merci beaucoup⚘🤍

Costumey!!! Lol That's exactly what comes to my mind. It's a funny trend, but if it encourages more elegance and investment in quality over fast fashion that' a very good thing! Love your take! Think there's a strong crossover between the French Girl and Old Money trends. I love vintage Ralph Lauren, I find some of their new blazers to be very costumey.

Lovely channel! I wear clothes that are mostly cotton or all cotton w a touch of elastene, silk, and (increasingly rarely) some wool items. Cashmere has to be exceptional quality or it’s too itchy for me. I have cashmere by loro piana that has lasted decades. Linen in summer, but cotton is preferred. Not all polyester is bad and some dresses have lasted for years. If you’re going to opt for a cheaper fabric, buy it in a dark color, preferably black. It’s more forgiving and can be accessorized easily. Don’t wear anything tight. Be comfortable, you owe it to yourself and you will look better too. High quality clothes can be tailored again and again.

Yes, trends for quiet luxury, minimalism, etc. can be a bit too plain, cliche and "samey", I like to inject a little originality and personality, e.g. a necktie or other small accessory that may be vintage or a bit different

@@luluandmeow yes, I realise (at 68) that I don't seek to emulate Tik Tok "Influencers" - preferring a bit of personal inner style with an eye to French chic. It is my favourite style overall. I think being thin also helps that look. I am not thin, not fat either, just a bit fuller than my desired weight.

old money is now a good search keyword, for more classical look (very broad term) maybe plus nonchalant or sprezzatura vibe to not be stiff or dressed in costume - i think its good thing that this type of trend is on right now, because people will look nicer on streets and its not fast fashion so its good

I’m not aiming to look “Old Money”, but classic, elegant, sophisticated and timeless, yes! But, that’s not new for many of us, it’s the way we always built our wardrobes (I’m American, age 63). Fabric/material and construction quality, versatility and timelessness are what I look for. Also, I only buy colors that are in my flattering, and preferred, palette (our Mom treated herself, my sister and me to a pro color analysis 40 years ago, it was great, very useful). I don’t think I’m a minimalist, I like classic prints, for example, but I do prefer more quiet or restrained styles. I do love preppy styles, but that doesn’t mean Blair Waldorf, whoever she was, she’s mentioned as the inspiration ad nauseum here in the US. But, this schoolgirl look, the plaid microskirt, logo badge blazer, wide headband, etc. is very overdone here. The newly revived emphasis on quality, simplicity, and elegance is very welcome to me and many other women, of all ages! This is one of the few “ trends” I’ve really loved since the craziness of fashion from about 2000-2022, where the only thing that seemed important to designers was novelty.

I am an older woman (age 67), too. I grew up in Boston, and was exposed to a lot of old money, Back Bay/Beacon Hill old money people. I routinely went to Harvard Square on the weekends, where the college age children of those people lived. I learned a lot about money, behavior, education, and class, clothing style. My mother also would take me shopping and shew me how to discern quality, classic, well made clothing from cheap, poorly made, disposable clothes. Alice is giving her viewers the same advice my mother gave me as a teenager. It’s so nice that she is educating those who wouldn’t have otherwise had this lifestyle education on how to build a classic, well made, chic wardrobe. Merçi, Alice!

the goal of this video is to show "realistic" old money style. I go from preppy to minimalist sometime I pull up very sophisticated look for evening or special occasion. Old money today is more about tailored, classic and timeless wardrobe. Where I live you will get this "preppy style with loafer, quilted jacket and people like me try to look more "modern".

I will tell you this. When you are tall and slim 99% of styles will look chic and high fashion on you. When you are Petite (short) you also have a shorter torso, which means less options available. All seams and bust need to be completely re-done, then it ruins the style. Many coats come with buttons on sleeves so you can't shorten the sleeve length. This blazer you're wearing at 14:09 makes me look I'm already 60 years old, and just not flattering for my short body. There is a very big shortage of petite sizes that are really stylist and put together. All Petite size I see are really ugly with carpet/construction patterns. It's very frustrating. It's as if this is the way designers are saying "well you're short, so you don't matter". All these examples work well for tall people.

I get your point. The same can be said of women with more curvy figures, even if they are not petite. Many styles are made to flatter a tall and slim figure, but in the US, that doesn’t fit the majority of adult women.

Most clothes look chic if you are slender, not just average weight, but very slim, a lot of the fashion icons we look up to are very slender and this is often left unsaid due to political correctness. I try to be slim! Not easy but eating whole plant foods helps. I am petite too, M&S in the UK does trousers, jeans, etc. in different lengths. I tuck in all tops.

Quiet luxury is boring, non personalized, and pretentious. $600 army green cashmere baseball caps? Who is stupid enough to spend money on that? It’s flaunting money same as the head to toe logo look.
