    When I first saw this, I cheered when the old bellhop man appeared. He is the earthly host of The Giant, and you just knew he was there to help Cooper finally solve it.

    Twin peaks is one of those shows where it’s absurdly brilliant, or just plain absurd. Either way you can’t take your eyes off it for one second, even if absolutely nothing is happening.

      Dream logic. You feel there's an underlying structure, pattern, or sense to the events you're witnessing, but there's isn't; it's a phantom sensation. Most of Lynch's stuff runs on dream logic. It's really terrific how his stuff uncouples character and narrative from the linear conscious mind.

    I think the Waiter/Giant is tempting Leland/Bob to take a gum “that will come back in style”.

    • @AddictiveKaraoke
      @AddictiveKaraoke  3 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      Cooper dreamed this sentence but didn't understand it.
      The elderly waiter delivers the line which draws Cooper's attention.
      But Leland Already KNOWS The Gum!!

    • @kevinkuenn5733
      @kevinkuenn5733 3 ปีที่แล้ว +89

      I think it's just a sort of confirmation by the Giant to Cooper that Leland is the killer. It's basically a police lineup, with Briggs bringing the waiter in to point a finger at one of the suspects. Leland recognizes the gum, and Cooper recognizes the significance of that.
      And I think Leland is the only one who recognizes or remembers the gum because the gum has some kind of connection to Bob. I always imagined that when Bob first met Leland, when he was a boy, Bob shared that brand of gum with him to befriend him, before he began to abuse and eventually inhabit him.
      I'm speculating wildly of course, but literally the only times Leland ever mentions his childhood are when talking about Bob, and about this gum he likes. So I don't think it's an unreasonable connection to make. And the whole show is about cycles of abuse and how those who were themselves abused can become the abuser if that trauma isn't dealt with. So something coming back in style is just another parallel/metaphorical cycle.

      @petersenior5432 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@kevinkuenn5733 There's a monstrous 4 and a half hour theory about the meaning of this whole show, I highly recommend it. Basically, Bob is a representation of violence as well as meaningless insertions of other things into film media, such as advertisements- based on The Arm's line "His name is Bob, eager for fun, he wears a smile, everybody run" as such a simple thing but very dangerous.

    You can tell this was after Lynch left. He would never tie up a loose end so tightly as this, going so far as to repeat the line it's referencing word for word. This spells things out for the audience far too plainly.

      Completely disagree. This whole sequence felt quite poignant with its mysterious aura connecting all of the intangible things in Cooper's mind. We as the audience have already seen who killed Maddie, and this is about Cooper learning the truth. The fact that it all comes together with the killer blissfully unaware as he comments on something as innocuous as the gum makes it all the more chilling. WHERE is BOB? How close to the surface is BOB within him? Absolutely chilling.

    I've always founded weird how the showed the killer for the audience before Cooper. Wasn't the hole point we finding out things alongside him?
    Also they took practically a filler episode for the town to find out Maddy's being killed. Imagine watching it in '92 and having to wait a hole week for shit to go down.
    Thank god the actors are so good, because if they depended only on the plot, this episode would be a total disaster.

    • @EditedAF987

      Probably because it’s chilling to see a murderer cheerfully going about his day while everyone remains unaware of the dead body in his golf bag. ‘Fire Walk With Me’ even expands on this same divide between the whimsical and cosy portrait the Town tries to paint, vs the dark and horrifying underbelly that everyone wilfully ignores.
      Either that, or the showrunners wanted to dabble with that Columbo vibe, where you know who the killer is, but want to see how the detective is going to catch them out.
