I didn’t know I needed a top 15 impersonation talking about ddr stepcharts but I guess I did Also “This song debuted in the original beatmania meaning it sounds like a midi track” had me rolling
you forgot something about Bag, the song is actually 130 bpm, but they inexplicably halved the bpm to 65. had the bpm actually been the proper 130 bpm, it would have been entirely quantized to 12th notes, which would have been less broken. So yeah, that chart is a fault of sheer stupidity on konami's part
I'm not sure that this is entirely accurate; to the best of my understanding, the lack of 12th quantization would have still existed, but its effects would have been far less pronounced had the BPM been 130. So it would still have been janky and offbeat, but in a way more like Burning Heat (3-Option Mix).
I literally taught my niece how to play 1, 2, Step by teaching her how to do the 1-2-Step. It makes perfect sense if you're interacting with 8-year-olds. But hard agree on Dead End and Uh La La being the hottest of garbage.
2/5, not enough degrassi references EDIT: ok this is 7 months later but I just looked at the chart for Nu Flow from Dancing Stage Unleashed, and I think that deserves to be on here. Using 8ths instead of 12ths is an auto-nom.
There is now an official, intentional hand, but it’s done through a quirk of the engine. Megalovania was added to DDR A3 and the ESP includes a Freeze that ends at the same time as a jump occurs. This was likely intentional as the chart is a massive troll in line with the source material.
There are actually two more instances of hands in the Ultramix series for North America! In Ultramix 2, the Challenge chart of "echo !mage - Skulk" has a two bracketable jumps during a freeze arrow near the start. In Ultramix 3, the Expert chart of "901(Clay) - The Cat In The Moon" has an overlapping freeze arrow at the end.
The real question, and one that I could never get the answer to, are they good players? For Pump It Up, the step artists are credited. They range from "very good" to "best player in the world" (Fefemz), as seen in the Stepper's Championship.
That’s also a problem with a lot of GH/RB/CH customs. It annoys me when there are descending notes when the melody is clearly ascending and when they use the same “chords” in the chart when the guitar is clearly playing through different chords.
didn't even mention how offsync unreal is also fun fact another instance of their being 3 notes at once officially existed once, in Spanish snowy dance EDP, the eventually fixed it though
Have you thought about doing a Top 15 Best (or your personal favorite) Stepcharts video as a companion to this one? I feel like seeing them back to back would really emphasize how good the best and how bad the worst charts are.
Nice video. Love your commentary. Can I add that there's a song called GORGEOUS 2012 in Supernova, where the level for basic is a 5 footer, but the chart is about the same as the beginner level. Also the song in Extreme called Funk Boogie has a 5 footer in standard, but it's a way more easier chart than in light, which is a 4 footer.
You have to keep the original chart authentic. Sure you can have a good score on shuffle or mirror, but how well can you do on the real chart is the question for world records and competitions.
