Since PVZ mods are in a massive legal gray area, most of this stuff is undocumented online and incredibly difficult to research, and I went into this pretty much only having played PVZ1 and PVZ2. If someone would like to make a video chronicling the history of these mods for the English audience, I would love to watch it. And yes, I am Vietnamese and I live in Vietnam. The anime girls are taken from another mod. Pvz magical hybrid probably took those sprites from that mod. But, I don't know I've only played the mod with only the anime girls. *don't ask me why*
@Luigicat11 its 植物娘大战僵 尸. Its title just translates to "Plant Girl vs Zombies" and there are only few plants that got reskinned. Cattail's seed slot moves so I love this mod.
Well I don't know what it is, and it looks exactly like PvZ, the UI and functionality is almost exactly the same, so I thought it was some sort of engine port. If it's fully original, kudos to them.

Correction: Giga-Football {the black Football} isn't exclusive to China. It's from a web-game version/demo of the official PvZ1 Also, if you're invested into the mods, why not dive into a similar rabbithole?: PvZ OFFICIAL {I repeat, OFFICIAL} games from China! Edit: 11:40 Hybrid which also has English Translations if you know where to look: *insert disappointing cricket fan meme here*
There's a lot of stuff proving against it being a mod. Like having entirely different programming language or not being compatible with some pvz1 scripts.
Great video, really enjoyed it. But a couple corrections: Pvz plus is a completely different mod from brutal mode. And brutal ex is a difficulty setting in the brutal mode mod.
@@Carbine64 Yeah his names are better. Oh and brutal mode also has a ton of super original minigames and even it's own level editor(albeit pretty clunky). Don't take it to heart, i am just very nitpicky, as i said i enjoyed the video very much. Good luck with your future projects :)
Small tangeant, but the Journey to the West inspired levels and boss in Crazy Multiverse is based on two of the Chinese exclusive PVZ Versions, Endless Edition and Great Wall Edition. Both had content from the original story as a whole side adventure. The boss theme is likely based on a theme used for the trailers of Endless Edition, which are itself based on the song you talked about.

i like this video but i have a few gripes which are mostly just my autism i think but anyway firstly, "brutal mode ex plus" ia actually called unnamed. rcch made that name up for it. secondly, the "rats from ratatouille" (and the whole levelset you showed in general during that part) are actually from an old chinese equivalent to pvz called "food vs mouse" (there's a pvz mod that makes it like the game though if you wanna check it out sometime) thirdly, there is a video that exposes the guy that made hybrid. it talks about stolen ideas and uh.... well... let's just say he's a *piano sounds* mustard on that beat yo

There's a lot of conflicting info even in these TH-cam comments about that, and functionally it doesn't change anything for the player, so I think it's fine.
pvz hybrid is made by a person who (mostly) steals code and art from others without giving credit thats probably where the disliking of the mod is coming from
