    Great tutorial. Very high standard, excellent presentation and good advice.

    Virus Spec: Dual DSP system which dynamically allocates its resources. Depending on
    the complexity of a patch everything in between 20 and 90 voices can be
    achieved (10-50 voices with Virus TI Snow).
    Comment if I'm wrong, but you can achieve a lot more voices with your popular VST's. (Serum, Sylenth1) Theoretically the VST's should sound a lot "Fatter".

    This is beautiful! Thank you!

    After watching this I decided to have a go myself... I combined sylenth, fm8 and massive with a link pad in maschine.... I was blown away by the results, quite friendly on CPU also.

      Oh ya, blending with different VST's is the way to go!

    another sick video man, can't wait to try all this stuff out. you think you could do a Part 2 making Sylenth sound like Virus? thanks!

      That's a great idea!

    Great sound, and thanks for the tutorial! One quick question though: I may be wrong, but doesn't the "Max Voicing" value set the total number of voices that Massive can play across all notes? In other words, if you set the "Unisono" to 16 and the "Max" to 32, Massive should be able to play 16 unison voices for two notes, but won't be able to play a third note if, for example, you have three notes in a chord playing at the same time. Is this incorrect?

    Question..You pointed out the high CPU usage of running 3/4 stacks of a VST but suggested to render to audio. Would that be 3/4 audio tracks still or could you blend them into 1 audio track? Would be nice to have it on one track to easily launch as a clip in Ableton.
    Also, you said that really it should be done with the virus too anyways. So if you're gonna just render to audio regardless, it's all going to come down to the question of do you want to build your own sound or have it out of the box like the virus does TBH?!

    1440p - That's pretty impressive. Haven't seen that before.

    I take away at least 2 new ideas from this. Great stuff.
    Any chance you can make the midi available? Tutorials are so much easier when the midi is there rather than trying to figure it out. Sound design is one thing to learn, composition and chords are another for us nooblars.

      Christopher Pisz HI Christopher. This one is a bit old so not sure if it's still lying around... but we will consider it for future.

      Since I spent the time transcribing it tonight...because I was digging it so much :P Here is my zip. If people don't have the same DAW as I do, they can still grab the MIDI and the patches. Feel free to grab it and host it, since it is just in my temp folder. christopherpisz.strangled.net/temp/SuperSaw_Virus_Stack.zip

    When using this in a track with other instruments, would you group these and EQ them together or EQ each individually? I'm thinking the latter since the tone is a bit different and we'd want that to stand out. I'm also going to play with replacing the delay with FabFilter Timeless, since I just splurged $800 on their special sale yesterday :P Still haven't found a really good Reverb VST. I think Massive's is better than Abelton's standard reverb, but not quite happy with it either.

      Hey Christopher, sorry this is so late, but yeah I would EQ Separately. And check out Valhalla DSP for reverbs!

    When you add the LFO to OSC 1&2, I get a different sound. But when I lower it to 1.40 for OSC 1 and 1.20 for OSC 2. They sound great.
    Any reason why the sound came out different?

  • @Royhaven12
    @Royhaven12 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I am following you steps and for some reason my lowpass 2 isn't having the same effect on the sound as your's. Pretty frustrating. Any idea why that might be happening?

      Royhaven12 Make sure the vertical sliders on either side of the filter area are set to the right positions.

      ***** I'm not sure whats going on with my instance of massive. When I Init Patch while in Ableton it sets some of the parameters to random values, and I can't tell all the settings that it has adjusted. When I open massive as stand alone and Init Patch it sets it just like yours. Very Strange.
      I just opened Massive as a stand alone, hit Init Patch, and saved that as a preset. Then I reopened that patch in massive and everything worked fine.

    This would have been much more interesting if you'd taken a few minutes to record your Virus to compare whether it sounds anything like it. Of course, I think most soft synths kinda sound like crap compared to most hardware ones, so it probably wouldn't, but, whatever

    • @scyhte82
      @scyhte82 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you realize that a virus is nothing else than a computer in a knob box, running a soft synth, do you?
      massive is a beast and eats viruses for breakfast in terms of sound quality and flexibility. :D
