Great sound. I just really don't like the rattling that comes out of the attack with the Dimension expander and gets further amp'ed by the reverb. I wonder if that can be tamed earlier in the chain. Will try!
Charles Duchesne i know this is two years ago but i wasnt a huge fan of that noise either so maybe someone will find this helpful. It mostly comes from OSC 1's Pitch modulating up 48 notes. If you lower it to 36 or 24 you will get much less of the sound effect. What I did was use a second macro, put it under the side chain of the pitch on OSC 1 and then Sidechained the 48 note pitch to go downward as I move the macro to the right. That way I can tweak that sound on the fly.
I figured out that the rattling tail sound is coming from OSC 1. So, doing this will change the sound slightly, but apart from messing with the effects as others have said, bring down the ENV 1 modulation on OSC 1 to 24 or 36 instead of 48.
you probably dont care but if you are stoned like me atm then you can stream all the new series on InstaFlixxer. I've been streaming with my brother for the last couple of days =)
Very good tutorial. Love the sound. I'm going to aux it to a little Phase Mistress and Crystallizer. Should be luscious!! Also, you could smear this a little during a breakdown by tweaking Env 4 D, S and R. Bounce that, timestretch it, HP it and make some nice ambient etheral atmosphere. Loved the tutorial. Very inspirational.
I tried following along to this vid in my own software with no preset loaded into Massive. I was good all the way up until you went to that first macro control knob. Mine isn't activated, and I don't know how to activate it. Like, it's not lit up yellow like yours is, its dimmed out like the rest of them. How might I go about doing activating it? Its at 4:19 where you start messing with it.
I want to do one survey here. When you use massive, somtimes you might need to find out the sound preset that match with your requirements. I think it really bother you to load all massive presets if you can't do sound desing properly for your needs. I have some possible solution for this matter, I would export all sample sounds of massive in audio format, so you can listen in your phone at any time. I give the audio file name as same as massive preset name. So If you like particular sound, then you can simply find it in massive. How about that work? Please answer me it will be helpful or not coz it 's a ton of works and take a lot of time to export all massive audio files. Thanks.
The awesome pre-made sound played at the start doesn't sound anything like the patch he makes for the tut. Very weird. The sound at the end is ok but not the best.
The chords are: Bm7, Dsus2, A, Esus4 Keys played per chord: Bm7: B1, F#2, A2, D3 Dsus2: D2, A2, E3 A: A1, E2, A2, C#3 Esus4: E1, B1, A2, B2 Info: the number behind the note represents the octave on your keyboard. So B1 is one octave lower than B2.
Awesome sound, excellent tutorial. A big fan of you and ADSR in general!

Probably just a less steep attack should help
Turn down "Color" on the Reverb effect tab

SO LATE but anyone having this problem turn up the DENSITY on the reverb!!!

excellent tutorial. This sound is very close to synth in the bridge of COOL by Troye Sivan. So happy I found this!

can you divulge the chord progression you have going on here? i found myself jamming to it while i was making the sound haha
Bm D A E I think. :)
did you find the rest of the chord
plz tell me what the chords are :)
The chords are: Bm7, Dsus2, A, Esus4
Keys played per chord:
Bm7: B1, F#2, A2, D3
Dsus2: D2, A2, E3
A: A1, E2, A2, C#3
Esus4: E1, B1, A2, B2
Info: the number behind the note represents the octave on your keyboard. So B1 is one octave lower than B2.
wtf followed everything and checked twice but mine still doesn't sound the same
Did you find the way to make it right? I have the same problem
I think it's the amount of pitch in the frequency shift insert effect or whichever one had the pitch knob. It affects the sound big time
I would use these if I had money
Damn, it was sounding good af until I added envelope 1 to oscillator one and then it got really dissonant.
Ahhh, figured it out. Level in the envelope parameter will shift some overtone pitches.
