All of this could have been avoided . It’s sad . I’m a contractor and I offer copies of my insurance and my license . I also offer references and sign contracts on all work . I pull permits and go by code . Sorry this happened not all contractors are this bad . Normally when this stuff happens it’s because of substance abuse, 9 times out of 10 .

    • @trankt54155

@@trankt54155 I believe people who abuse substances and do stuff like this wouldn’t do it had they not been on drugs/alcohol/or whatever else . . , also this may not be the case . Someone without substance abuse issues who does this is just a piece of shit plain and simple . . But like I said 9 times out of 10 this happens when people are getting high or abusing some substance . So in a way yes I was blaming the substance .... I guess

WRONG!! the person WAS LICENSED. Ansurance means nothing when it comes to you doing a good job either.
Pulling permits, only means there is to be an inspector.. So THEY assure the job is good not you. A home owner can pull a permit. There is a huge lie that Quality work can be calculated by what a guy is on paper. thats not true.

NEVER NEVER NEVER use Home advisor!!! they dont do back ground checks on contractors and they claim the service is free but it is NOT!! they charge the contractors outrageous fees that in turn get passed on to the homeowner.

I’m a contractor who used home advisor last year for about 60% of my work that year and only had good experiences with home owners using it. They did do a background check on me and all my financial and past business history. I had to be licensed to even be on there system. I wasn’t charged much for leads other than the 270 yearly annual fee. But other than that I only had good experiences on it and know other contractors who also had good experiences. But like anytime you hire contractors you should do referrals and all that

What's even worse is there isn't much difference between the flat-out scammers and the "legitimate" contractors. They are all trying to SCREW you. If a contractor sizes you up as someone who is clueless (a recent widow, for example) and has a lot of cash, they might add 10K or 20K to their bid thinking that you're an easy sucker, and even if they do a respectable job you've STILL BEEN ROBBED of a lot of money by a dishonest contractor.

Check with all and references and get off their butt and go check jobs before getting involved. Money only issuied on when materials brought to house on payment schedule followed by materials relaese from supplier.

References, references, references! Before you sign anything, get references, ask friends, neighbors, people you work with, or go to peoples houses that are having work done and find out from them as the customer, how did the work and are they good, easy to work with and do they get the job done on time for the agreed upon price. Check with your BBB and local Chamber of Commerce, are they licensed, fully insured, any leans or questions against them? Also remember the price should not be a final decision maker for you. Price does not always reflect quality. And pay attention to that little voice in the back of your head, if you get a vibe something isn’t right with the guy, don’t use them. Also, be proactive with a contractor, keep tabs on their work and progress. Show up on the sight from time to time and see how work is progressing. And never, ever pay them more than 1/3 up front.

Word of mouth is usually the best way to find a contractor some times that back fires to when you are looking to have work done interview your contractor like an employer would after all you are the employer get references go look at work that he or she has done if possible don't be afraid to do this I know it takes time to do these things but it's in your best interest and as a contractor myself I get enough money up front to cover the material and labor for the first faze of work and when that is complete then another draw for the second faze so on and so forth until the job is complete and I never get the final check until I know that they are totally happy with the job never give the contractor the final check until the job is 110 percent complet and yes I said 110 percent if it's not and he is paid in full you may never see him again a good reliable contractor will not have a problem with this
