I'm playing this too, though I only have the demo version. Cool that you received a review copy. Most of my characters, even having access to only 3 maps, are levels 75 through 80. That's no record, I'm sure...folks are very dedicated to this game.
I've been watching lots of "reviews." It's pretty evident that most "reviewers" have not put in enough time to give a legitimate opinion of the game. I guess this is what "game journalism" has given us, where people who don't really care about the game think they have an opinion.
This is the first review I've seen that does the game justice. You can't play a Disgaea game in 40 or 50 hours...I hope you'll keep going, and see some possibilities...but you've played enough to tell us something substantive, rather than blathering about things that you don't really know about. I appreciate that very much.

Edit: Asked some questions but you answered them near the end of the review. So I'll just say I enjoyed watching/listening to your review and subbed. I was hoping D4 complete+ was more like D5 but it sounds like more of a straight port like D1 complete which I was personally disappointed in. I might skip D4 complete+ in this case.
Honestly I'm only getting it because I stopped playing the series after the third game, pretty much forgetting it and even missing the 5th game and only got back into it because I enjoyed Witch and the Hundred Knight 1 & 2 and Labyrinth of Refrain which reinvigorated me back into the Nipponichiverse, and then Disgaea 6 came out! Only played the Demo, but damn was it effective that I bought 5 Complete on the spot just to wait for 6 to lower in price LOL!
I want to play the Disgaea I missed so I'm going to wait for a Price Drop. My rule with "Ports and lazy Remasters that only slightly add shit" is to not buy them at full price when their originals are still available to purchase and have lowered in price now a days! 5 Complete is more like a "GAME OF THE YEAR Edition" since it gives you all the DLC the PS4 version had and because of it and still being on the PS5 it's in a price range that is acceptable! D4 Complete on the other hand is the same, but being a port of a PS3 game with little added does D4 Complete no favors! Even with the DLC material within it! I'll be saying the same if DD2 ever gets a Complete & it's the same, though less so because it came out much later being a "sequel" in the sense that it came out AFTER D4 but before D5 and it's a straight port as well with barely anything added, though as long as they "clean it up abit" as the game did have freezing issues namely with one of Flonne's skills then I might make an exception! Otherwise, I will pay the price of a Port that is appropriate to the content and pricing compared to if I can buy it normally! Cause My PS3 still works fine, so I can go out and find the normal game, and likely at a lower price then the "Complete" version! Especially as Sony never shut off the PS3 PSN Store, so I can get those DLC as well! And they'll add up to less then what I would have paid for the Complete version on the Switch! (But I don't want to with the Disgaea series as the one reason I dropped them was the Time Consuming part of them! It was alright as a Teen, but as an adult, I'm only buying these's type of games for Handhelds because then I can play them at anytime I wish anywhere! While consoles are regulated to games that are "less so!" If your 100+ long then to the Handheld you go! Otherwise I'm skipping, it's why when TH-cam got big, I only cared to look at Disgaea 4's cutscenes and not play the game, I loved the story and characters so I regret giving up on the series back then and man was getting D5 Complete a good decision on my part! Might just get the other Nippon Ichi games I skipped other then watching cutscenes for them like Soul Nomad, Makai Kingdom, Phantom Brave and La Pucille, in the case of the last one, I hope it's not a port of the original, but an english translation of the PSP version, but that will likely have to be it's own beast I guess, Same with Makai Kingdom which I doubt as well)
Speaking of which how the fuck is Disgaea 1 Complete priced as it is, yet has nothing really "new" in it to justify it being anything but a straight Port? I'm happy I skipped it when I saw it (I still have a working PS2 and still have the original Hour of Darkness as well! And any of the new content after that version I can just look at cutscenes of them on TH-cam! So I have no real reason to get D1 Complete, especially from what you stated I made the right call skipping! I likely won't play HoD unless I have nothing else to play! But then there are other games so it will likely remain gathering dust till I sell it off with the PS2 and the rest of the games in the future most likely! I have no reason to really go back to the past all the time! As why would I want to play FFXII when I have the Zodiac Age for my switch with knowledge on how not to break the fucking game to keep it challenging! It comes down to "why should I play an unbalanced That ONE GAME when I can play the more balanced Remastered" ONLY if the price is right/worth it
40 hours of playtime in disgaea is not a crazy amount of time.

tbh when i first heard about the complete + i thought it would have the QoL and gameplay improvements from Disgaea 5, the reason why i enjoyed Disgaea 5 was because of that. Sadly this wasnt the case.
As for the story and characters i enjoyed Disgaea 4 more than 5 but in terms of gameplay and QoL Disgaea 5 has the upper hand
@Blob Fish it means Quality of Life aka various of improvements and ease for players instead of unnecessary hassle
@@cid3303 cheat shop and innocent warehouse are there, an option to restart battles instead of quitting to the title screen is there as well (makes it great for duping items with ppp or resetting to get a legendary one)

dude no it won't cuz it plays like og of disgaea 4 and has extra story and the improments are only to disgaea 5 and for the other games before it.
