    The church is rendered especially well in this very attractive painting. Another success.

    Hi....love your work... Now that I am retired, I watch all sorts of art and artists on TH-cam. It's not just your art and drawings that are lovely, but the very professional way in which you present your demo's. My career spanned 50 years as a pro photographer, then the last 30 years as a film director, so I know A little about light, tones, thirds and all that stuff........Just dont change a thing, except to continue entertaining all of us in the same lovely way.....Thanks. Bobby

      +Bobby Harper Thanks very much Bobby, that's very kind of you to say, I'm glad you find my videos entertaining, I'm not a professional film maker or anything like that, so your comment means a lot to me, I just try my best and enjoy my artwork, I will keep making these demos, as people seem to like them, thanks for your encouragement its much appreciated.

    This is gorgeous, I’ve tried drawing this, rather unsuccessfully from a screenshot of the final painting. I’m so glad all these watercolour videos have suddenly come up, it shows off your watercolour talent to the best effect, I’ve attempted these a number of times will have to try again, I’ve got photos of all of them saved in my library lol waiting for me to become proficient 3nough to do them properly

      +Larry Nelson Thanks Larry, I thought I would practice this method again after your suggestion a while ago, I couldn't get consistent results using fixative, keeping the pencil grades no darker than 2B seems to work well.

    Loved this one especially the finished painting. I am itching to have a go at this technique now having watched your last two videos. I think I will play around with a couple of simple examples first before I dive in and possible ruin a good drawing! Combining graphite and watercolor appears to work so well when you do it.

    Another absolute gem, Smoothie. Beautiful. I really, REALLY love your work. I think my fave of yours could be the Castle Coombe painting. Btw, I've done some more work with coloured pencil over acrylics and they do work quite well. Hope you have a go with that technique. All the very best

    Just bought some watercolour paints, you have inspired me to try your method (but on something far simple to start with), keep up the good work.

    Absolutely love your tutorials and art. I tried to paint along with this one but I can tell you it didn't turn out anything like yours. However I didn't really use watercolour per say, I used Caran Dache water soluble crayons called Neo colour II and some Faber Castell watercolour pencils. I have just purchased a Winsor and Newtown 24 Full Pan Set and so hope my next watercolour turns out a bit better. It was my first ever attempt at watercolour so I'm not too disappointed with my effort. Awesome video.

      +Coloured Pencil Reviews Hi, Thanks for commenting, this method works best on watercolour paper, especially if you're using graphite, if you use drawing paper the graphite gets mixed in with the water much easier and turns muddy, also if you're using water soluble pencils over graphite that might turn muddy too, you will get better results with your new W&N paints, apply them lightly over graphite for best results, happy painting.

    I am a complete beginner in watercolour but have had some training in drawing so this looks very interesting. My only question is in most watercolour lessons I have watched they say to take off all graphite so it won’t mix with the watercolour and dirty it. Do you do anything special to avoid this happening or do the light washes not have those problems. Also can this technique be done on hot pressed paper.👍❤️

    What a beautiful effect!!
    What pencil did you use for the set-up Smoothie? Aquarelle pencil?
    - Lineke ;)

    • @smoothie77drawingpainting
      @smoothie77drawingpainting  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lineke Lijn Thank you Lineke, no not aquarelle, is was a standard 2B graphite pencil, I used it on extra rough watercolour paper to get the effect of foliage, thanks for the comment :)

    • @LinekeLijn
      @LinekeLijn 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +smoothie77 Oh really? That amazes me because I always thought that Graphite would make the colours of the aquarelle "grey-ish" ... Who would have thougt! Thank you so much for clearing this out for me ;)
      - Lineke

    • @smoothie77drawingpainting
      @smoothie77drawingpainting  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lineke Lijn Yes graphite can make watercolour go grey and look dull, I try not to go darker/softer than a 2B pencil to minimize the risk of the graphite mixing with the wet paint, I have used 4B, that's ok if your careful, also I use soft brushes to avoid lifting and smudging the graphite too much, give it a go Lineke, I just know an artist with your talent will do a great job :)

    • @LinekeLijn
      @LinekeLijn 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +smoothie77 Wow thanks!! I was watching you go and I do have some aquarelle laying around and I totally love it. But it must have been 30 jears since I really worked it but I am eager to give it a try again one day.
      You totally inspired me!

    This is going to be my next one, oh dear this has put me in my place thst no real skill in watercolour is required to do these, ! However I did feel a sense of accomplishment with the last one, not least because I did it lol

    • @margaretbrownhill1193
      @margaretbrownhill1193 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or perhaps not, the last one wasn’t that good, I know I made mistakes perhaps I didn’t use the blending stump enough on the graphite and I know the green was too light in places, ah well back to the drawing board

  • @margaretbrownhill1193
    @margaretbrownhill1193 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love it but that's no surprise. I agree about drawing on the watercolour paper I thought it was me, but I managed and it was a really good drawing the best I've done. Anyway I'm starting to do it again, I couldn't trace what I had scanned lol. I don't mind however I need the practice at line drawings especially buildings. This won't let me go so I shall finish painting the first one and hopefully learn something slang the way. Then I will try again, I refuse to give up
