I can't stop looking at your videos now,you are way up there with Geoff Kersey and Terry Harrison, without doubt. My initial venturing into watercolour was because Frank Clarke told us anyone can do it!! I learn something every time I watch you. Well done and thank you.
Thanks Carole, that's very kind of you to say, I don't think I'm anywhere near that level yet but I will keep trying, Frank Clarke is right "anyone can do it" I believe if you really want to do it you will find a way, thanks again for your lovely comment, its very much appreciated.
I think that I should thank you sir, you taught me a new technique with graphite dust (grinding it from an HB woodless pencil and smudging the dust with a paper towel) it was the first time I tried it and it turned out quite nice. So thank you so much.
Wonderful Smoothie. Funniest part of the video around the 20 min mark. "I'm not very good at watercolour." Hahahaha. If you're no good at watercolour, then God help the rest of us. You are far FAR better than you give yourself credit for. You produce some of the finest watercolour/mixed media work I have ever seen. You are right up there with the likes of Terry Harrison, Geoff Kersey and Crawshaw. Thanks so much for these videos, they are a pleasure to watch and so inspirational. Keep em coming!
+horrorfan24 Well...what can I say, thanks very much for that comment! I don't think I'm even close to those artists, it was Alwyn Crawshaw that started me painting with watercolour many years ago, he's always been one of my favourite watercolourist's, thanks again for commenting, much appreciated!
Oh wow how did I miss this was actually a watercolour one, what joy to discover it and this is a definite for me to have a go at. Why do you say you're not good at watercolours this is fantastic I would hate to think what would be good people like me wouldn't even attempt it. I just love it and hope you do more watercolours especially landscapes, thankyou so much x
Thanks Margaret, I have a real fondness of Cley mill, I have visited it lots of times while on holiday in Norfolk, its an artist paradise! I will be painting more watercolours that's for sure, this one is a great one for you to have a go at :)
smoothie77 the way you broke it down it seems achievable for me! I remember it from our holidays in Norfolk when the children were young happy days Norfolk and Cornwall alternating x
Beautiful work and subject matter. I have coloured pencils and just ordered watercolours, so I was inspired by your use of both in your painting. Thank you for demonstrating your techniques. I think you understate your watercolour ability!
+smoothie77 Have you had any experience with Derwent's Graphitint pencils? There is an amazing portrait done with them on The Mind of Watercolor website. They seem to produce a subtle effect.
+Mary Algar Yes I really like graphitints, I have done several videos using them, here's a few links to some of the work I have done with them.... th-cam.com/video/Yz68r9-3_Dk/w-d-xo.html ... th-cam.com/video/AmQ0O2UIO4M/w-d-xo.html ... th-cam.com/video/MNoygXI5WJ0/w-d-xo.html ... th-cam.com/video/cOEyWZGucEg/w-d-xo.html
+Angelica G Hi Angelica, glad you enjoyed the video, sorry my voice was a bit groggy again, I just got man flu for the second time this year! not had a flu or cold for the last 5 years, hopefully my voice should be back to normal for the next one, thanks very much for the comment :)
Useful tips about the coloured pencils, must try that method. The Cley mill is a favourite subject of mine, though I tend to paint it from the mill yard (car park) view. Very nice work. Thanks again for sharing it with us.
Hi Tony, have you got any paintings online, I would love to see your Cley mill painting, its a place I have visited many times, it always fascinates me, I have also drawn it from the car park view, the old mill looks great from any angle in my opinion, its a wonderful subject to paint, thanks for taking the time to view and comment.
Do you have this one on patreon ??? I just finished the Cley windmill you have on there that just has the buildings just beside it and in pencil, but I can't find this one that has the additional buildings and in watercolour !!!
An awesome mixed media painting I like very much! My only problem again is the weather. Thus I feel with many watercolour paintings. The painters seem to live in a special own world where always the same neutral weather rules. I get no good clear feeling for the season or the weather. Or is it a special British weather? ;-) // I'm living in Germany at the Teutoburger Wald. :)
Thanks Eric, it is a special British neutral weather that only exists in the mind of British watercolour painters, seriously...the weather in England can be very neutral in between all the rain we get.
Love this painting, Smoothie77, any chance of a downloadable outline sketch?, I'm quite sure a few of us would like to have a go at this one. and no hard feelings if you don't want to. I know it's a big ask. Happy Painting my friend.
Thanks Old Timer, several people have asked the same, I don't have any downloadable outline drawings at the moment, but due to the amount of interest in this sort of thing I will be making outline drawings available soon, I have a website planned for the near future, as soon as I have built it I will include downloadable outline drawings on there, I will add a link on my TH-cam channel as soon as its up and running, thanks for the question, ps, I received another comment from you that I cant find anywhere to reply too, I managed to read the message, but didn't understand what you meant? could you please send me a private message on google+ or my youtube to explain why, I think i'm missing something with this one, thanks.
Yes, I know what it was now, last year when I was on a modelling site, I had an e-mail very much the same offering to get me more money coming in from you-tube, which turned out to be a scam, that's why I posted what I did, but visiting this lady's channel I could see that it was not the same kind of thing, hence I removed my comment. So apologies, no harm meant.
Just discovered your site but am finding that even at full volume I am finding it difficult to hear what you are saying sometimes. Is there any way you could increase the volume of your recording microphone please ?????

+Ædrick The Paladin You're very welcome, its great to hear you are getting good results with that method, I really like the graphite powder technique.

Anyone who doesn't use whatever they need to get the effect they want isn't an artist, they're a bossy boots.
