I feel like people fail to realize how far fetched Blue Lock truly is. It’s a manga about teenagers playing in a training/living facility that has AI goalkeepers and where you play with teammates who are all strikers, trying to be the best “Egoist” and whoever doesn’t make the cut loses their chance at being a member of the Japan National team 😭 I think it’s weird to try to compare it to something like Haikyuu which is just HS Volleyball. I wouldn’t take BL too seriously if I were you. I just think of it as a battle Shonen for Soccer. Good video tho. It’s fun seeing a video like this 👍

Love seeing the breakdown on blue lock and what doesnt work on it (i'll be getting into manga content for this). Power scaling being more ridiculous as time goes on, which i can agree happens even in the current stage of the manga (The top 1-6 falling behind in relevance to the new gen 11, and even them being overshadowed by things like metavision), however i do also think that the hype factor for everything that happens is well managed, even now where we are getting this almost ridiculous shot (kaiser impact magnus), which im hyped for, can still appreciate what was behind that and be as hype as it was on my first read, like the sae goal om the blue lock 11 and such. Just as a side note which can be described as both good and awful writing, the author seems to correct the teamwork statement by separating egoism in a team play and self play oriented type, very good video and i would love to see your take on the manga too (also theres this one video calles "five shot revolver fabe volley blue lock tv camera" that shows how the shot is actually done, not that it still isnt ridiculous)

The world five game is not the third selection, the third selection actually takes place after this match and the top six strikers in the program are based off of who could score against the world five team. I feel like blue lock is more of a thrill ride made to entertain rather than a super well fleshed out sports manga. I agree with the scaling issues tho, too many characters being introduced at once with no time to learn about any of them and lots of strong strikers with unique abilities get the backseat so that we can watch Isagi score a direct shot for the 30th time.
5:30 I’ll say, the fact you put “Catenaccio” for this section is comical. It only has 1-2 matches as of right now, so it’s not like power progression has been into play that much. No offense to the series, but Ao Ashi was probably the better choice to use as an example, seeing as Ashito took quite the time to improve himself, not only with the vision, but also other stuff, like team play or positioning, just to name a few. As for the video, you definitely put a reasonable criticism that actually makes a lot of sense. As someone who reads the manga, I can confidently say that the power progression becomes worse and worse. Sometimes, the progression hinders at some chapters. It’s probably the biggest problem, aside from some pacing issues, but that’s besides the point. To be fair, Blue Lock tried to raise the power level of football to a higher degree than most others, which does disconnect it with real life, but can be much more engaging if executed properly. And in my opinion, it has succeeded, for the most part. The environment and the format itself is different enough, where just playing football in the way you know isn’t enough. Here, individualism plays a bigger role than teamwork. And the desire/hunger is what “Ego” tries to create. While Jinpachi’s statements at the start were somewhat dumb, it quickly became apparent that you shouldn’t have taken the statements at face value, but rather think it from a different lens, which was about the characters’ mentality about how football was played by Japan standards, which was deemed inferior by European standardss. Without the necessary “Ego” you’re going to remain mediocre. I’ll not say that Blue Lock is a genuine masterpiece, cause it isn’t (Ao Ashi is currently better, and Catenaccio has the potential to be above too). But saying that is an insult to football is simply not true, seeing as the tactics, combos, abilities, etc., are not unreasonable to see in IRL football (You ain’t gonna see them everywhere, but stuff like that does happen). Plus, aside from that, it definitely shines in a lot more aspects, such as character development, side cast, protagonist, antagonists, etc. It is simply an anime that makes football much more exciting to witness, without “killing” its core values as a sport.

The world 5 match was specifically set up to show them how far they had to go, their strength being the whole point of their introduction. As we are in the manga now, characters using abilities like meta vision, gaining physical buffs, and having overall better game sense is something that allows this scaling to feel mostly earned. It’s still a sports manga, it’s gonna have some unrealism, and I definitely see your point that all sports manga kinda can have this issue, but I do think blue lock has tackled well over its many chapters, with seemingly many more to come to flesh out our story even more

This idea of pushing to be the best you can be also shows why Kuan and Baro are seen as wrong Kuan cheated to get ahead preventing himself from playing to his best because succesess is handed to him instead of working for it and barow's childishness was preventing him from playing to the best of his ability as isagi points out several times and even shown as once baro stops ball hoging and is knocked down a peg he is able to find a better way for him to be able to play. This also plays into why players consistently do flashy moves if they can do them why not play to the best of your ability sure its overly consistent especially for high schoolers but its a story its allowed to do that.
