Evidence that Israel is using starvation as weapon of war in Gaza says UN | BBC News

  • There is plausible evidence that Israel is using starvation as a weapon of war, according to the United Nations' most senior human rights official. Volker Turk said that would amount to a war crime.
Humanitarian agencies have long been calling for an immediate ceasefire and large deliveries of aid in Gaza, where a famine is looming.
Israel insists that it’s letting in all the humanitarian aid that is needed.
Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Jeremy Bowen in Jerusalem.

    • @canitbethat

The purpose of the aid drops is to provide an alternative path for aid that is harder for Hamas to hijack. The actual amount is insignificant compared to what is already coming in by truck, but it might reach some people who otherwise wouldn't receive the aid from the trucks. Also, air drops look good on video, and for politicians in democratic countries (e.g., Joe Biden), that matters.

That reminds me of my country Holland, where in 1945 more than 10,000 people died of hunger due to punishment of the Nazis. We also did see those air drops of food in the 2 weeks before the end of the war, but we had organizations to distribute it! The German did not shoot our police and our terrorists (the Resistance) were well organized and assisted the police. Probably the Nazis also had the opinion that 70% of the Dutch supported the Allied Forces.

The Israelis publish a daily total of the aid they've brought through their crossings. Yesterday, it was 4,930 tons on 258 trucks. Did the Nazis let in almost 5,000 tons of aid to the Dutch in a typical day? If anyone disputes the Israeli numbers, let them say so, but I don't see anyone doing that. Certainly, nobody even mentioned these numbers in this video. If someone is claiming that substantially more than that showed up yesterday, but wasn't let through, let them say how much. I didn't hear that in this video either. Just vague accusations and slander, with no supporting evidence whatsoever. And now, you compare them to the Nazis -- based on what, exactly?

Funny. According to the Israeli lobbying group AIPAC, 15,207 trucks have gotten through as of this week.
That's 100 trucks a day on average. Of the 500 trucks minimum daily necessary for the Gazans to survive.
Hmmmm... weird. Israel needs to get their propaganda straight. 🤔
      Edit:
The Palestinian Red Crescent, UN, and AIPAC all agree on those average numbers, but the UN says Israel has cut the flow of trucks to 57 a day on average since the ICJ ruling.
Eylon Levy was literally fired when he said the UK could get an aid truck through easily when they called his bluff and immediately delivered.
And hey. Maybe you're Israeli and are fed a constant stream of lies so you don't know better. In that case, it's a pity. But if you're just another mouthpiece, find better material because no one is listening to Israel on anything anymore. No one cares about their lies.

Starvation and famine is one of the oldest methods to get people to give up or leave a territory forever. Starving people don’t have a fighting spirit because they lack strength.
Biologically women who are too underweight can stop menstruating meaning loss / impact of fertility. Breastmilk production will cease or automatically be reduced by the body if the mother is too malnourished impacting infants.
In WW2 it was reported that malnourished male POW“s stopped having the ability to have erections or any activity of that kind as their bodies were in survival mode only. We know today that bulimia can result in impotency with men as testosterone is not enough produced.
And children and the elderly with a weaker immune systems are the first ones affected by starvation.
One can only hope that this situation ends swiftly and that enough food reaches these areas at all times.

So, 40% of the casualties have been civilians in Gaza. Further, the percentage of civilian casualties is falling over time. The IDF cut civilian casualties by half, and then by 3 quarters. The initial operation required taking out missile sites, which caused higher civilian casualties, and more IDF soldiers were needed at the start.

I do not see anything even remotely comparable in Gaza. They show us a small handful of sick children, but the vast majority of the Palestinians we see are very healthy. If my next-door neighbour repressed and oppressed me for 75 years (after evicting me from my home), just because they could (i.e. massive military support from elsewhere), then did you _honestly_ think that at some point I wouldn’t punch back? Last time I checked, in a fist-fight, _both_ fighters are allowed to throw punches. That doesn’t mean that what Hamas did on October 7th was justified, but it was hardly unpredictable. As Isaac Asimov said: _I remember how it was in 1948 when Israel was being established and all my Jewish friends were ecstatic. I was not. I said: what are we doing? We are establishing ourselves in a ghetto, in a small corner of a vast Muslim sea. The Muslims will never forget nor forgive, and Israel, as long as it exists, will be embattled._ Until a 2-state solution that is just for _both_ parties is implemented, this nightmare will never end.
