It originated from Portugal dessert name 'Fios de Ovos'that applied to Thai ingredient by Portuguese chef who worked at the royal Thai cuisine in over 300 years ago. Actually, there are about 14 recipes has been applied to Thai dessert.
I don't think the original Fios de Ovos's taste will be like Foi Thong we are familiar with since the ingredients are much different. I've dreamt to try the Fios de Ovos, etc. in Portugal. :-) Otherwise, we find Portuguese desserts in Thailand. Fios de Ovos has a very different look too.
In thai we call portugal football national team nickname as the same name of this dessert "Foi tong". That be something remind to portugese of this thai dessert.
O i love this dessert. Every time i visit Thailand i buy this stuff from 7 eleven with Halal certification. And i eat it every other day when I am in Thailand. Just love it man!! I like the whole set with thong yod and other similar stuff ❤️❤️
We had the same dessert in Malaysia called "Jala Emas" (Golden Net). It was made into Puding Raja (King's Pudding) because back in the old days, this dessert only served in the Royal Palace. Very popular and native to the State of Pahang.
As you probably know, the Portuguese reached India before any other settlers. Goa, Damão and Diu were our last strongholds in India. So it's natural that Portuguese desserts feature in Indian households.
When I Went to Thailand, this is one ofmy favorite toppings on the desserts. Now I know it is ann duck egg york, i thought it is a coconut something. I love it.
Yes , 330years ago Thailand called Siam had Capital city is Ayutthaya had some woman her name Marie Kiema ( Tong Kiema ) she is had Portuguese nationality she made Portuguese sweets

What you asked is quite common in every cultures. Take this dessert for a sample. "Foi" means fluffy -- usually be line. "Tong" in Thai means gold or golden. This dessert usually served in ceremony to bless for wealth (to have lots of gold) You can see that it's the same with other cultures -- says Chinese since your name seems to be. You use "mein" (if my memory's regarding Chinese is right) or Chinese wheat noodle to bless one for longevity. And like I said, these are quite common in other cultures -- not just Thai or Chinese. Some because of their names, some because of their appearance, taste, etc.

That's a lot of sugar, I thought Asian country have little resource for sugar than Europe do

Nope. Sugarcane is a native plant of South East Asia.

just put egg yolk into bottle and then punch some small hole on cap
