Elden Ring vs Tears of the Kingdom... it's uhhh pretty self explanatory... The video is about Fromsoft's Elden Ring and Nintendo's Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Anyway I just wanna look at both games to try to determine which one would be better for you! I really love both of these games a lot so I'm always happy to go back and talk about them.

I messed up with the fuse ability. Sticking things together is something Ultrahand natively allows you to do, that's not a fuse ability lol, but it does still let you stick things together, like weapons, arrows and shields! I don't *think* there's anything else I wanna say so I'll just leave it at this for now. Anyway, thanks for watching! I really hope you enjoyed the video!

@@DeathGodCaine I didn't really want to because I wanted the video to be as unbiased as possible, however considering I revealed it in the short I uploaded the next day, and since you're asking, I don't really have a problem answering! I like Tears of the Kingdom more, and it's not really even close. TOTK might be my favorite game of all time, and Elden ring is just outside of the top 10, maybe in the top 10 depending on the day. I'm just too much of a Zelda fan to not prefer TOTK. But to be clear, I'm not saying TOTK is the *better* game, it just fits my personal preference a bit more than Elden Ring does

I do feel like the "open world" aspect was talked about more for Elden Ring than TotK in this video, when actually they both embody the spirit of "I can't wander for 5 minutes without being distracted by something" exceedingly well. TotK isn't just a physics game, it is also an open world game, and both games were inspired by BotW.

I suppose if you enjoy farming zoanite to make wacky contraptions that (inefficiently) kill the mobs, the game could be a lot of fun. But personally I have no interest in that, so the game is just too repetitive after the first 30h. No matter where you explore or what you do, all youll ever find is another shrine, korok, or bokoblin camp.
The game is actually closer to Minecraft than elden ring. I'm not saying that in a negative way, it's just not good to compare it to elden ring. TOTK is much more about building than about combat and exploring for rewards.

@@whirlwind872 I find this a weird comment, there is an enormous comparative enemy variety in TotK in comparison to a huge number of other open world games. I really feel like people hold Zelda to far higher standards because some of the criticisms have been absurd. There is never going to be a time in ToTk where you are climbing more than a couple minutes, with the variety of tools available for movement, especially vertically. And building is typically used for traversal of the world, after putting about 80 hours in I haven't really build any large contraptions for fighting, I only see people doing this for views on shorts, which is entertaining in its own right.
These complaints are weird enough but I suppose I understand them as a matter of taste, but MAN the idea that it is in anyway like Minecraft is just UTTERLY insane, it is in no way shape or form even remotely similar. At all. Building is not the focus of the game in the least, it is one system of many that is available to be used by the player in anyway they see fit.
But as for combat, I would say that Zelda has Elden Ring beat by wide margin, if we are speaking about variety, the potential combinations and insane shit you can do in regards to combat is quite literally endless.
The overlapping open ended systems give an endless variety for how to approach any given situation. Comparatively, Elden Ring is extremely simplistic and straight forward. You will use one weapon or two for the majority of your play through and every single encounter will involve the same few moves over and over. There is no dynamic interactivity and interplay between complex interactive open ended systems like ToTK. In fact, I'm convinced that people that don't like ToTK are just boring uncreative players.

When I finished totk, I said to myself: That was a real adventure. How many years have gone by where I truly felt like I was on an honest to goodness adventure?
I think there are three main components to a good adventure: a sense of wonder, agency, and to a lesser extent, stakes.
The sense of wonder is what stimulates you every step of the way. It is what makes it all worth it.
Agency means that you feel that there are multiple ways to approach a problem, which results in the solution you come up with feeling like it is truly yours.
Stakes are but a small part if it, but they are the glue that keeps the experience cohesive. They are the reason for starting your journey, and the reason you keep going. While finding Zelda and defeating Ganondorf are parts of this, smaller stakes are also important, such as a village struggling to find its identity in rapidly changing times. Or even just hearing a story of a certain outfit being hidden in a cave that is itself hidden.
All in all totk masters all these elements.

with every single boss in tears of the kingdom, you are filled with a sense of wonder because the game doesnt give you any clues or make it blatantly obvious what the boss is going to be like or how you could defeat it. as it does with the water, fire, and wind temple boss. the way that you defeat these bosses is not clued as to how you would defeat it, you are simply given the materials needed to do it, yet you are still forced to figure it out on your own. that's why i think everyone's experience beating the temple bosses was different, because for example with the wind temple boss, not everyone figured out you just have to drop onto the ice parts of the snake, and instead some people just chose to shoot it with a bow, as i did. likewise with the fire temple boss, i didnt realize i could use yunobo to break apart its legs, and instead i used recall on the rocks it summoned on me to do damage to it.
the only boss that breaks this is the lightning temple boss, and nintendo knew that they made it extremely obvious how to defeat the lightning temple boss, so there was no longer a sense of wonder. they fixed this by outright showing you what the lightning temple boss was going to be before you even started doing the lightning temple. so you already knew what the boss was like, and how to defeat it. by doing this, they brought that sense of wonder back because now what you had left to wonder about was how is the boss in the lightning temple going to be different than what i just did to fight it. theres still a sense of wonder about it and you still have to figure out how to beat the other parts of the boss like the gibdo hives and how to use the light beams to your advantage

Elden Ring really felt like a special game to me. I've noticed that the longer I've been gaming, the more burnout I feel about playing open world games. Elden Ring nailed the sense of exploration and discovery for me without dropping 800 pinpoints on the map telling me where to go, I just explored and enjoyed the discoveries I made along the way. It was the first open world game I've played in a long time where I wanted to keep going to see what else I could find.
While TOTK has an awesome fuse and ascend mechanic, I found the overall game itself kind of boring personally. I've put about 20 hours into it but I just can't seem to care about the story, the world itself or exploring it. I don't really enjoy the combat system in TOTK either, or the breakable weapons. While Elden Ring made me feel like an explorer, TOTK makes me feel like a bumbling goof who is constantly mashing things together just to survive.

If you're approaching it in the same way as Elden Ring, then it's going to probably not be as good, because Zelda has so many components built around the game that you wouldn't think relates to battle (but they can). Sekiro improve arpg combat with parry and posture, botw and totk improve openworld games with open space and freedom to explore. Elden Ring is fun in a very different way. It's a challenge and you never know what to expect.
TOTK is more focused on fun then challenge. If a boss is too hard, build some homing laser cannon or something.
TOTK you actually do kinda know what to expect, like Koroks and shrines, etc. But you never know how it's going to happen or be presented. But thats not on the same level as Elden Ring where, unless you've seen a guide, you won't know what's happening most of the time or where you're going or who you're fighting.

Your opinion of a game is irrelevant. I don't care how much fun you had with it, that doesn't make it fun. There are people that have fun playing chess, does not make chess fun.
Elden Ring is not focused on fun, it is focused on challenge. Some may find challenge fun, does not change the FACT that the game is NOT focused on fun.
TOTK is not focused on challenge, it's focused on fun. Some may find it challenging, does not make it a challenging game unless you're talking creatively. But it's that creativity aspect that makes it more focused on fun.
They give you all these tools and powers and a whole adventure to test them all out on.
Elden Ring gives you items and spells you get from chests and stuff. It can be fun setting up your character, but you don't have the creative freedom that makes TOTK so fun.

Yes, this is what I've always told to my friends. Both games are masterclasses in Open World games, there's no objectively "better" game, there's only focus and preferences: Elden Ring focuses more on Combat, while TotK focuses more on Problem Solving. It's a matter of what an individual personally enjoys more to set one of these games on top of the other.
To me, I like TotK better, and again, it's not that I dislike Elden Ring, or I did not enjoy it, or that I think it's an "inferior" game. The reason for this preference is because I find more enjoyment in problem solving than combat skill and complexity. For example, in Elden Ring you develop your character the way you like and when facing a strong or many strong enemies, you can either change your character or strategy slightly, or stick to your attributes and find a way to win the battle despite that. While TotK allows me to take enemies by stealth, building a machine or drone to assist me (or completely destroy all enemies haha), make the enemies fight each other, having a head-start on battle by positioning myself in the air to make critical shots on the enemies when they haven't noticed me yet, during the fight I can rely on skill, or use elemental attacks planned beforedhand by fusing weapons, there is a LOT of options, which makes the skill in combat not that important or demanding, but encouraging creativity and problem solving thinking, which stimulates me more. If anyone else feels more stimulated by learning attack patterns, battle rhythm, and everything Elden Ring offers is cool as well and another masterful system. I'm glad we have these two games on the market, and that I'm alive to play and enjoy them, and everyone else should too, because the only objective thing here, is that both Elden Ring and Tears of the Kingdom are historic and groundbreaking masterpieces.

Zelda reward exploration with more puzzle, Elden Ring reward exploration with unique bosses. I'm a Nintendo fanboy, so Zelda all the way. BUT, the one thing I think Elden Ring does better is rewarding player with a unique lore boss. Malenia is the completionist reward of Elden Ring. She hid away at the furthest of the furthest of the map and even the casual streamers/let's player still manage to seek her out. Compare this to the shrine completion reward, or the korok completion reward, or any of the Zelda's completion reward (the tunic, the bike). I hope the DLC of Totk give us some good lore enemy to close off this saga.

Elden Ring has so much more when it comes to lore, story, characters, atmosphere. Exploration (while admittedly having far fewer movement options) has more meaningful and memorable things to discover and subsequently has so much more depth. Its combat is so much more engaging, in-depth, varied, and rewarding. It's build/character creating gives it infinitely more replayability (as well as its almost countless areas, which the average person couldn't possibly see in just one playthrough). Its aesthetic is absolutely jaw-dropping and environmentally more varied.

If I showed Radahn's final phase's theme to someone who doesn't know of elden ring they would just think it's alright or pretty bad. But if you fight him, know his story and the grandness of the fight after dying to him 50+ times it feels epic and motivating and it gets your blood pumping. Daredevil season 3 is filled with a ton of great characters, but Benjamin Poindexter aka "Dex" is definitely one of my favorites (spoilers below, go watch daredevil).
Dex is introduced as an FBI agent who is trying to do good, but the viewer quickly finds out that he is a stalker and throughout the show he rapidly changes into a cold blooded killer who takes enjoyment in cutting down the innocent. What I love about Dex's character is that it doesn't just show the progression of him becoming a villain, but also the way that Wilson Fisk drives that progression and systematically destroys his mental state, turning Dex into a tool that he can use.
We first see Dex defending Wilson Fisk's FBI transport from a gang attack where he pretty much single handedly turns the engagement around, executing each assailant with deadly precision. It's here that Fisk takes an interest in Dex and wants him as a bodyguard. Fisk soon has investigators dig up everything they can about Dex and finds out that Dex has borderline personality disorder and has killed people from a young age. Despite this, Dex has tried to keep himself on the straight and narrow as he learned in therapy that he's not broken, he just needs some help to understand right and wrong. We soon find out that almost everything in Dex's life is designed to help keep him on a good path; his job choice, his daily routine, his religious cleanliness, and we find that the woman (Julie) he stalks is a woman he knew and who he wants to be like. While still highly creepy, he has no intent to ever interact with her and he feels that seeing her presence helps him become a better person.
Throughout the show Fisk tries to destabilize him on each of these fronts, getting him suspended from his job, turning the media against him, finding Julie and getting her to move jobs so that Dex runs into her when he didn't intend to. Fisk largely succeeds in these attempts, and at critical points of destabilization, he tells Dex that they're similar and that Dex should embrace his urge to kill. Tells him that he would accept Dex as he is, rather than as society wants him to be. Dex eventually succumbs to this, dons a fake daredevil suit, and goes on numerous murderous rampages. In spite of this, Dex still understands that he's doing something horrible and tries to restabilize himself, which culminates in Fisk killing Julie and Dex's ultimate psychotic break.
Most shows take the trope of a mentally unwell villain and simply coat them in stereotypes and harmful ideas like that they're born evil or they are in their nature harmful. Daredevil avoids this and instead presents us with a man who has been told that he needs help and who does everything in his power to live a good, morally upstanding life. He overcomes his mental issues and truly becomes a force of good. That is, until Fisk steps in and tries to turn him into everything he was trying to avoid.
I think the beautiful thing about s3 of Daredevil is that we see a lot of characters through different and complex lenses and Dex is no exception. We see Dex through Ray's eyes as a man who saved his life and later as a dangerous maniac; Julie views him as someone who is desperately trying to better himself; Matt views him as a dark mirror, reflecting who he could be; and Fisk sees him as a man who could be used as a tool. Ultimately Dex's story arc is just as impactful as Ray's, showing what happens to good well meaning people when Fisk gets his hands on them. It's so rare to see a psychotic villain who is mostly handled with tact and treated as a tragic character rather than a born menace.
