Always better to ask and be polite rather than demand and shout or not to bother at all. You can discover really friendly people and also get the shot you were after. A case of you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Great vlog Thomas.
That was very nice of having the mindset that you had no right to ask people to move. Nick obviously had the right approach and the group really appreciated it.
Most people are fine about moving. I was catching a sunset over a loch and shouted for a paddle boarder to go further over to get a silhouette of her in the sun (in a polite way of course) she was more than happy to and asked for a copy of the shot. So ended up we both got something out of it
Utah state in general is full of amazing places for photography. Happy to see you making videos and taking pictures in a masterful way and then guiding the viewers how to better our own photography. Thx
That loan leaf shot, hit me in the throat, and made my eyes blink. You got an artistic shot of a leaf that has performed its natural function admirably, has died and will not be remembered if you didn't take the shot. Two thumbs up!
This is so British, I love it. Wait for 2hrs to take a shot and don't want to ask the people to move as they have the same right as you to be there. Then again, Thomas, you as much right as them to get a banging photograph. Us Brits are just too polite it gets awkward. Thank god you were with an American who just went for it!
I could already imagine how good these few shots would look in print. The last shot on paper would bring it to another level. Personal fav the 2nd shot!
The shot of the leaf in the snow was just stunning, Tom, the photo you took of the leaves in the disgusting ditch reminded me of the Lake District and the lovely under-ice image. Thanks for the very nice video, you're the best. Cheers, Bob.
Great Vlog as always Tom lad. Superb photos and the leaves shot in the water and in the snow showed why you are ahead of the game. Us normal human hobby photographers wouldn’t have the idea to look for things like that. What I also appreciated was how you dealt with the crowd at the Arch. For someone who I’ve subscribed with for a while, I’ve watched your career and popularity grow, but you as a person has stayed the same. Your courtesy, humility and almost shyness is a real credit to you buddy. Don’t change as your success continue to grow. Keep up the great vlogs you really are an inspiration to me. 📸👍
I am an introvert, for sure, and asking people to move is really hard for me, too. That single leaf picture was magnificent. Thanks for another great video, sir.
1) Funny that a group of photographers wouldn't have noticed you already set up. 2) If I'm waiting 2 hours for a shot I'm damn well asking them (very politely) to move for a few minutes so I can get it done lol.
Haha yeah I had a sunset shot all ready and another photographer put his tripod right on the beach about the same distance as those guys I was like ummm, so I moved coz I felt rude asking him to move 😖
Look at it from their perspective, they also just walked in from however far away, and are now captivated by the "absolutely stunning" scene before them. It's easy not to notice you're in someone else's shot especially when you can't really work out what they are framing up. A polite ask for a spare 5 minute to grab the pic is probably ok, but no one should ever have any expectation of privacy, or primacy, at these locations IMO. Add to that a photographer who is commoditizing to some degree their use of that space, and I'd say that puts them further back in line behind the regular old public for viewing privileges. That's not to say I would't also be super frustrated!
Thank you Tom, for once again reminding me that when the greater landscape is not jumping out at you, to look for the details. Also, it was awesome to see you feature Nick Page, another one of my favourite photographers. Awesome times!
I've noticed myself more and more often using my 70-200 for nearly 80% of my landscape photography. People are always taken aback by that when I tell them, but it's really a fantastic tool for getting those more intimate details in an otherwise busy or very photographed scene
You give me heart palpitations with your red flashing battery warning light! Top video Thomas. Inspiring on the detailed close in shots that no one else gets shots!
I can imagine these folks were so focused on the beauty before them, that they didn’t even realize you were there. Most are accommodating if they see a lens pointed their way.
Thomas, this video sure was a treat for me. Utah is my home and you’re shooting what is, to me, my backyard. I often watch your videos admiring the beautiful sights and scenes you’ve got in Europe, so it has been a treasure to see some of Utah through your eyes. I have a feeling something from this video will accompany me through my photography adventures in Utah for years to come. Thank you.
Hi Thomas. It's extremely annoying when this happens , especially when you not on homeland where you can just go back another day , but just take it with a pinch of salt , at least you been there. The other annoying thing is when you find your perfect composition and there is something artificial like lamppost or a house or a boat. Thanks for the video looking forward to see more from Utah.
The finest landscape exhibitions and photo essays that I have ever enjoyed always included detail images along with the sweeping vistas. These images in the end will mean more to you from this trip than all the others.
After long time this video once again inspire me to follow landscape photography. These are the kind of photos makes you unique and that's what I really look into your videos. Thank You Thomas Heaton.
You are my favorite TH-camr to watch! Always look forward to Wednesdays and Sundays. The more I watch, the more I think you could make a living using just that one long lens. It's making me rethink my lens priorities, for sure. I particularly love your ability to see the big picture and little details all in the same day.
I live in Utah and these locations are just a few hours from where I live. One the best areas I've ever been to for photography. Well worth a trip if you're looking for unique shots. Summers are very hot though, Spring and autumn are best.
You know what I love the most about your photography Tom? I feel like we are totally different in terms of what appeals to our eye, but the way you articulate your thoughts and emotions speaks to me and I can understand exactly what you saw in the image. It has really helped me develop my own style, and look more for images in places I wouldn’t normally. Keep up the amazing work man, I hope one day to reach your level!
Just had a similar experience in the Grand Teton N.P. waiting patiently for sunrise and having been set up well in advance, along come the day snappers who just walk straight into the composition. Whilst I appreciate everyone’s entitled to capture an image, some manners wouldn’t go amiss. A few of us, like Thomas were sniggering at their total lack of awareness. Did manage to get the shot in the end. Moab is definitely on next years to do list. Another great vid from Thomas, who’s setting quite a high bar of late with his scenery!
I know that lake well. I just moved after spending 4 years in Moab and made that drive 2-3 times a week checking color. Thanks for the memories and great vid.
Looks an awesome place. Nice photographs and video. It's definitely that time of the year to get fantastic colours and those details in the land that we just miss. All the best Heaton.
Awesome video Thomas glad you were able to hang around this beautiful state and share it with the rest of the world oh and make some totally awesome photos... P.S. Thanks for the calendar..
It's striking (to use your word) at what you are able to put together on the fly. Your images are, of course, stunning. But the video and your story telling are truly incredible. There are not many things that I have looked forward to as I do with your videos. Thanks and keep up the inspiring work.
Great video, I did enjoy the alps set of films but this one has been my favourite for a while. It's nice to see a variety of styles and shots being taken to the usual mountain ranges. It's also great to see lots of images in one video.
Absolutely Stunning video.... The intimate images with the leaves were stunning.... Loved this vlog and thanks so much for sharing your work with all of us. I look forward to next week's video.
Love your intimate shots Tom, especially the leaf in the snow. There is a saying used by another photog I follow, he says "It's not what you see, but how you see it." I think it goes well here.
Kindred spirits for sure... the attraction to those odd little vignettes that just reach out to you in odd places...leaves on a drainage ditch...yes, I’m all in...
Welcome to Utah! Southern Utah is such a wealth of photography options. Have you ever thought of coming up north a bit and shooting the Wasatch? Timpanogos is absolutely gorgeous.
This was one of your best videos yet, Thomas. I loved every image. And I'm always glad to see you focusing on the small intimate details. The leaves in the water shot was amazing.
The scene behind you when you were taking the single leaf was so good too. The shadow lines across the snow! I hope you got some if that. Wonderful video as usual.
Thank you, Thomas. Your videos always inspire me. Since watching your videos I have spent more and more time with camera out in the wild taking photos. I look for any opportunity to learn more and your videos always give me something new to think about! It is greatly appreciated and keep them coming they make such a difference.
So interesting to hear you say it's not a wide angle game, and I just remember in the beginning, all of the shots you used to get with the Zeiss! Been a trip to watch you progress and evolve, and hand off the tips from experience for us. Cheers man
Enjoyed this one, going from one location with its beautiful rocky arch and to another with all the ingredients of the elements for lovely photography , really truly wonderful .
Thank you for another amazing video and bonus pics. You were like a kid in the candy store. This happens on unplanned trips as we don't expect what we are going to get. Loved the droplet pic and it reminded me of the frozen lake leaves pic
Stunning. I think you could say you hit photography jackpot heaven with that place. It is like all the photography gods threw all their goodness into one stunning location. Fabulous
Wow! I remember the day when you talked about being alone and not taking pictures with others along and such and today you make friends in the field with strangers at Arches and do these other outings! Very cool! And thank you for the level deploy field tip! Gorgeous shot! Thomas, you are an amazing photographer. Thank you for all the inspiration you have given me.
Thomas, without meaning to rant, there is no excuse for ignorance! People who walk in front of photographers, should have the common courtesy to ask if they are in the way. Especially, especially, if they are fellow photographers! Lovely images of the leaves in the water and the leaf in the snow. True Heaton style right there.
Brilliant video Thomas. This is the kind of stuff that drew me to your channel in the first place. All of the small intimate detail shots are so creative and shooting them with the 70-200 lens only is a great tip. I find myself using mine more and more in landscapes to get to specific details. Well done!
Mr. Heaton! Just wanted to say I appreciate the videos and can relate to this one. I appreciate the inspiration you bring to your channel. You've helped me up my game and I look forward to seeing what's next for you! Thanks!
Thank you for the calendar 2019 ,, just received.. Awsm ! I do love another creation of yours where u beautifully captured the autumn leaves trapped below the frozen lake just as this one .
Re the other people ask them to move for a couple of minutes and offer to take a photo of them in return. Email it to them afterwards and you've earned yourself a few more fans, too. Win, win :)

That leaf in the snow image ... amazing, inspirational, simplistic ... you inspire me yet again Thomas Heaton
Your videos make me so happy.
They always re ignite my passion for art in general 👌🏻
Happiness is watching your videos first thing in the morning.
I could already imagine how good these few shots would look in print. The last shot on paper would bring it to another level. Personal fav the 2nd shot!

All the icons have been photographed by icons. Love that you have such appreciate for the intimate, incidental details.
I am an introvert, for sure, and asking people to move is really hard for me, too. That single leaf picture was magnificent. Thanks for another great video, sir.
I really liked the simple and peaceful shots of leafs and trees
1) Funny that a group of photographers wouldn't have noticed you already set up.
2) If I'm waiting 2 hours for a shot I'm damn well asking them (very politely) to move for a few minutes so I can get it done lol.
This. It's all about how you ask though.

Thank god for Nick Page!!
exactly...just ask, people these days are so oblivious to others around them. Just ask man.
Thank you Tom, for once again reminding me that when the greater landscape is not jumping out at you, to look for the details. Also, it was awesome to see you feature Nick Page, another one of my favourite photographers. Awesome times!
I loveeeee that last image. I hope it makes your calendar

The spot is to be shared and enjoyed by all. Communication is key
Tom travels nine time zones to get a picture of a leaf but after watching him for a long time I get it! Thanks for all the smashing images.
It’s fantastic to see how a little detail can become an awesome image... It remembers me to look down too ;) Thank You soooo much Thomas!!
I’m so happy that you got the image. Friendliness and humility go a long way in getting people to help you out.
You give me heart palpitations with your red flashing battery warning light! Top video Thomas. Inspiring on the detailed close in shots that no one else gets shots!
That leaf on the snow is mind blowing.
It always amazes me how people can be so oblivious to what is happening around them.
I can imagine these folks were so focused on the beauty before them, that they didn’t even realize you were there. Most are accommodating if they see a lens pointed their way.

New, improved, Photoshop CC Content-Aware Fill - for those pesky photo-bombers!
these two guys together, perfect
The square crop was perfect for your leaf photo. Beautiful. Thanks for the video.
After long time this video once again inspire me to follow landscape photography. These are the kind of photos makes you unique and that's what I really look into your videos. Thank You Thomas Heaton.

Every photographer needs a Nick!
Thank-You,
Mike
A thoroughly enjoyable way to spend 22 minutes, your videos are a joy to watch. Thank you Thomas.
All those intimate shots of leaves! I'm sure Ben Horne is proud. Great work, Thomas.

Can’t believe there’s a latter to climb the rock. Man it’s weird how brilliant mother nature is..
I thought the same, but perhaps it's there to protect the rock. I don't know.
😂 Nature has some weird formations!
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto It is there so you can climb to another level. It is the only way to get up there.....
I love the way you kept your eyes on details in such an amazing and impressing landscape. Thanks for sharing Thomas.
Nice pictures... but the last one was the icing on the cake. Awesome job.
I know that lake well. I just moved after spending 4 years in Moab and made that drive 2-3 times a week checking color. Thanks for the memories and great vid.
I lost my filter system into the rushing waters of Finnich Glen last year. Glad you were able to retrieve yours.
asking nicely is always an option. Never forget that most people are good and nice.
Thomas Heaton doing photography beer in hand !! Legend
Received my calendars. Thanks so much for all the effort that it took to put them together.
You immortalized that leaf...that’s a beautiful thing!
Looks an awesome place. Nice photographs and video. It's definitely that time of the year to get fantastic colours and those details in the land that we just miss. All the best Heaton.
hi Thomas great time in Utah great images that you captured it was a pleasure having you as an instructor thx again

This place is on my list of MUST GO TO places! Thanks for Sharing! Awesome to see. And it sucks that that happened! It happens to me all the time
Every pictures you take amazes me. I wish i could take pictures like you.

what a awesome experience...the autum with snow ..love all the small detail shots
Fantastic video as always Sir Thomas, but I think this is one of your best yet. Thanks.

Awesome video yet again Thomas. Favourite time of year is autumn. Can't wait try and get out and shoot some of my own soon. Atb.
I love the La Sal range, this summer I went there and just had a great time! So much to see and do there!
Great video, I did enjoy the alps set of films but this one has been my favourite for a while. It's nice to see a variety of styles and shots being taken to the usual mountain ranges. It's also great to see lots of images in one video.
Absolutely Stunning video....

I look forward to next week's video.
I really like the sunken leaf shot, Thomas. Nice minimalist framing.
Love your intimate shots Tom, especially the leaf in the snow. There is a saying used by another photog I follow, he says "It's not what you see, but how you see it." I think it goes well here.
Best video I think in a while and what a location, superb, as I've come to expect from you Thomas, thanks for sharing.
You could see Nick was just itching to ask them to move.....and then he did! 👍
Great to see you guys working together! 👍
Thanks, always inspiring. Besides, encouraged me to put my unused macro lens back in my bag. You never know when you will need it.
You are the genuine article. You see things I don't think I would have noticed. Incredible work.
Kindred spirits for sure... the attraction to those odd little vignettes that just reach out to you in odd places...leaves on a drainage ditch...yes, I’m all in...

Great as always Thomas, beautiful locations
I always get excited when I get a notification for one of your videos feels like Christmas morning
So interesting to hear you say it's not a wide angle game, and I just remember in the beginning, all of the shots you used to get with the Zeiss! Been a trip to watch you progress and evolve, and hand off the tips from experience for us. Cheers man
Can't wait for the next video. That area is one of my all time favorites!
Good stuff Thomas. I really enjoy your style and presentation. Keep up the good work!!

Awsm !
I do love another creation of yours where u beautifully captured the autumn leaves trapped below the frozen lake just as this one .
I usually ask people politely and it works. I think they understand us photographers, most of the time. :)
Jealous of that gorgeous afternoon spent in that aspen grove. Those are beautiful images you took!
Your skin tone, hair and stubble really blend in with the rocks
Re the other people ask them to move for a couple of minutes and offer to take a photo of them in return. Email it to them afterwards and you've earned yourself a few more fans, too. Win, win :)
Had to smile when your polariser was in the water. The exact same thing happened to me today.
You need a macro lens in your bag, Thomas. Loved the intimate shots of the leaves.
beautiful season, beautiful shot
This is one of my favorites from you.
