I bought this paint to re-do my kitchen golden oak cabinets, but I'll still put down a couple thin coats of Zinsser BIN (shellac) primer to ensure great adherence after a very light scuffing of the surface. The main reason I like the Beyond as a top coat is its thickness and ability to help hide the oak grain without the need to apply fillers and deal with sanding it down multiple times (and that related mess). Two to three thin coats should do it, applied with a small thin-nap roller. I really don't mind the slight texture it leaves behind. IMHO if you want glass-like results, then your only option is to spray with lacquer ($$$ and lots of prep work, sanding between coats, etc.).
I painting my countertops with beyound paint. 2 years ago.... purchased the sealer as well....3 COATS... allowing recomened time between coats. It's holding up ok. however what I dont like about beyond paint. when it gets wet, it turns lighter... It does dry back to the orginal color. Also, do not let anything like tomatoe sauce or red colored food. It will stain. Not the best option for counter tops...
With 3 coats of sealer it might be the sealer that is changing color when wet and not the paint. Thank you for sharing your experience with this product.
Because the brushstrokes come from the brush, and they recommend you use a microfiber roller. I just use this paint on to old school desks that were painted red at one time and we’re sitting outside. I painted them both dark blue and they look amazing but it’s important to use the roller. There are no stroke marks on it at all. My next project are my kitchen counters. I’m just trying to decide what color and coordinate a color for the cabinets.
Love this paint, have used it on several things so far…just wish it was tintable as I am painting my oak cabinets grey and the light is a little too light and the dark has a bluish tone I don’t want so I guess I’ll have to figure a ratio of adding black to get what I want….our local store flatly refused to try to tint lol
According to Beyond Paint it can be tinted. Now whether the store wants to risk being stuck with a tint color the customer doesn't like is another story. Glad to hear you like this paint. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
@@cfldriven yes love the paint and sure the store doesn’t want to experiment plus Beyond recommends tinting with their own paint to maintain integrity although a small percentage of tint is allowed…I’ll figure it out can’t be that hard right? lol
@@cfldriven yes that’s my plan, I can experiment with very small amounts until I get the right ratio, my kitchen has varying natural and artificial light so I’ll blame any possible errors on that😀
Love this paint. I recently did a second dresser, had a little left. Few weeks later I wanted to use little bit left to do just top on a large dresser. It got so think and hard to stir im wondering if I can add just a tiny bit water so I can work with it and finish dresser top. Don't know why it happened, few weeks ago I did whole dresser and it wasn't too thick.! Love this paint nantucket.
Linda, unless air got into it, you should be able just to stir it. I had my for over a year and it looked like jelly, but after stirring it was fine to paint with.
There was only about 1 5 inching bottom of jar. I used a drill attachment for mixing paint and it could barely turn. Maybe because jar was almost empty. I added 2 teaspoons, water and kink or messed up integrity of the paint. Still used it. Barely had enough to cover a dresser top I was using it for. I scrapped sides of jar and finally I got that satin smooth finish. Used a clear matt finish.
Judy, it has been like three years and we have had no issues with cleaning the desk from the original video. th-cam.com/video/CJpuQg5AIk4/w-d-xo.html We didn't apply a sealer, but it can be done. Thanks for watching.
Check out some of the comments as most are very positive. The table we painted over two years ago is used as a desk and continues to be chip free. We did let the paint fully cure before putting anything on it.
Does this paint really bond well? I just did a test on my bathroom cabinet front drawer and let the first coat sit over night to dry and this morning the paint was already chipping in some spots. I followed all the steps. Cleaned the surface with simply green before. Let the coat dry for much longer than recommended. What gives?
The instructions also call for allowing the paint to cure which is different from drying. I have not had any issues with this paint or any other quality paint once it has been allowed to cure.
Measure the total area of your dresser that will be painted and use the following guide, *1 Quart BEYOND PAINT® covers 100 sq. ft. *1 Pint BEYOND PAINT® covers 50 sq. ft. *1 Gallon = 40-48 Cabinet Doors & Face Frames (with 2 coats!)
Yes and the longer you let paint cure the better they say 30 days , I painted my fireplace glazed tile that’s on the floor , no problem with it just to show you how strong the paint is and it adheres to the surface , I like to use a small fine sponge roller it gives a spray finish when dries. I also think layering thin coats work best for a smooth and even coat
These silly people wanted you to abuse the material to prove what? I guess If they typically go around, scratching and digging at the paint in their home, then it would make sense. I’ve watched two videos and I am impressed. I plan to do a small section of cabinets, So thank you for doing this and thank you for the recommendation.
Marfia, it was interesting to read the requests to torture the paint. This paint is impressive although pricey, but depending on the project it could be the right paint. I only wish I knew about this paint when we painted the kitchen cabinets. The amount of sanding and multi-layers of primer and paint made for a long project. This paint would have said us so much time and effort making it a bargain evening with the higher cost. Thank you for watching and taking the time to write. Best of luck iwth the cabinets and if can share how the project went.
Michelle, this is a textured paint, unless you spray it, so brushing leaves bigger marks, but nothing you can see from a few feet away. Thanks for watching.
Not all paint brushes are equal. You must consider the brush head material as well as its size and shape to help you get the results you need. A top-quality paint brush will hold more paint, streak less, last longer and provide a better finish. I have a 3 inch natural sable hair brush that I purchased in 1982 ($90.00 at that time), that I use exclusively for laying down oil based poly-urethane finishes. It takes about 1 hour to clean after use. It will lay down a perfect glass-like finish on table tops, that is superior to a sprayed finish. It seems like an insane price for a paint brush, but so far, its' cost $2.25 per year. LOL
Flaherty, according to the Beyond Paint's website "BEYOND PAINT works with both HVLP (High volume, low pressure) and airless systems. If using an HVLP sprayer system use a 2.0 or 2.4 nozzle. No need to thin or dilute our paints. Our paint is ready to go to be used with any paint sprayer If you do have trouble getting the paint out of the nozzle, then add a only a few drops of water at a time."
Diluting Beyond Paint is not recommended for a less textured finish. Adding water would compromise the integrity of the product's bonding properties. For spraying, Beyond Paint can be sprayed using an HVLP system or airlines system using the wider nozzle. Our paint is water-based and thicker than regular paints, however, dilution should not be necessary if a wide nozzle is used. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the “after years of use” revisit video. VERY HELPFUL AND MUCH APPRECIATED. ❤️

Did you rinse after cleaning. Cleaning residue will keep paint from adhering properly

Why didn’t you roll the paint as the manufacturer says to do?
And despite that it still looks good today.
I painted a Jeep Wrangler, and I use it as a bed liner in my truck. This stuff is Behond Paint really
That is impressive use of the paint. Thank you for watching and sharing.
Okay, so I am getting ready to paint my kitchen cabinets w this paint. What degreaser should I use first?
Do not use TSP as the manufacturer says it leaves a film without very thorough rinsing, they recommend Simple Green.
We recommend Zep Degreaser or Simple Green for the best results 😃

Simply Green...tends to leave residue. Maybe try denatured alcohol or a glass cleaner next time. : )

Your rollers and brushes are very important. Zebra brushes are the best
What roller do you recommend? going to be painting rv cabinets!
With thicker paints you have to put thin coats
odor of mendacity
