      Many thanks, that is good to know. We can get temperatures like that here in Cali (away from the coast) and the AC is a must have. Also like the idea of the ventilated seats. Maybe RP's AC needs looking at - watched a fair few Charger reviews and not heard of this issue before. The 245 tires though seems a common talking point, but some say not always a bad thing.

    • @ndavis459
      @ndavis459 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +93455Driver overall man its a fantastic car with lots of great features. The ventilated seats are nice it's not over whelming but you can feel a difference. The 245s were put on to keep the cost down compared to the SRT model. I found a set of cheap like new used 275s and am having much better results with traction. I would totally recommend this car to buy.

    • @93455Driver

      Definitely like the idea of owning a V8 sedan one day. Sadly I think the SP is outside my budget, but used RT Road and Track with the 8 Speed maybe possible. Rare to see used SP's, and used SRT's are pricey.

    RP Productions, take to the dealer about the A/C. There is a combined switch/relay which fails quite frequently. It also controls your electric radiator fan so continuing to drive it like it is cold overheat the engine. I had the same issue in my 1500 and did not realize anything was wrong until I stopped and let it idle after a long drive. The temps were at 231 for coolant and 235 for oil. normal temps were 210 for coolant and 215 for oil. The really sad part is the electric radiator fan is monitored digitally and never caused any CEL to occur. I tired the A/C on a new Charger at the local dealership on a new RT SCAT PACK and that A/C was awesome on a cold start idle with the car sitting in the direct sun for 5 hours. Best of luck. Hopefully the dealership can get it quickly fixed for you

    Don't overlook the AC, or Subwoofer as "SP Issues". Take it to the service manager at your dealership, & have him/her take care of it..,and ask him if he can replace your pads with aftermarket pads I.e Hawk, Stop tech, etc

    Have a 2015 Charger with the same A/C issue...brought it Friday to dealer and turns out the re-circulation door was defective and only allowing fresh air in. This explains why it only got dogged in the 100 degree Texas heat and not the 80s. I also found it interesting that they had such an obscure part in stock at the dealer, making me believe this is probably a known issue.

    Our '12 R/T Charger has none of these issues, honestly. Very well put together cars. Still cracks me up that it gets high 20's fuel economy, yet runs high 13's in the 1/4 weighing well over 4,000 pounds.
    Yours, of course, is much quicker and more capable.
    On the other hand, the '06 Charger R/T we previously had was of lesser quality build for sure. They've definitely picked up their game in recent years, a result of getting away from both German and Cerberus ownership.

    On the brakes, these are racing brakes, they are meant to get hot to work better. You have to do something called bedding in the brakes. Look it up, easy to do and no more squealing. I had a 2015 Scat Pack Challenger so I know about this. I usually did the bedding procedure every few months depending on my driving conditions.

    • @travelandhustle127
      @travelandhustle127 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @Fredo Dawg check consumer reports for 2018. Facts is facts, not your 1995 based opinion. Dodge has been shit for decades. But last year rated as #3 rated car brand for reliability. #1 and #2 were the korean brands.

    • @xFlared
      @xFlared 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@travelandhustle127 Those consumer reports are fake. It's money under the table. How can you rate reliability of vehicles that have been out for a few months to a year? Come back to me in 5-10 years. True reliability is tested at least beyond 100k. Anything below that is trash. This is how toyota and honda build their reputation. By long term tested reliability. Not fake day 1 ownership reviews.

    • @travelandhustle127
      @travelandhustle127 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not Toyota bashing...thier the reliability standards belittle most. But let's not act on pure emotion. Their are certain facts to show they have flaws also. As in leading all manufacturers in total number of recalls....yes this can be summed up by the pure mass of cars sold, but it is what it is. Are we forgetting when Toyota's were killing ppl when the cars wouldn't slow down on the highway? Think it was a accelerator or brake issue... either way niether car company is the greatest even tho Toyota track record is more impressive. I'm not brand loyal so I can speak objectively. I currently own a Ls430 and a mustang gt. Quit the fanboy talk

    You're right about the horrible brakes squealing. I took the brake pads off and lubricanted them with a brake squeal product. However the squeal is still very loud in the rear brakes. If you want the squealing to stop you gotta buy some expensive ceramic pad. When I first got my 16 Charger Scat Pack I never had the problem with brake squeal until it reach 3000miles. However I will not buy drag tires unless I'm going to the drag strip.

  • @bsd103
    @bsd103 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey common misconception - wider tires do not always = more grip. It's all about contact patch area and shape. Typically wide tires have a wide contact patch which is great for lateral grip, but you can actually sacrifice straight-line grip with a wider tire by reducing the front-to-back contact patch. Dragsters get around this by airing down a LOT and having thin flexible tires, but on the road under normal air pressures, don't believe the "wider is better" hype. People often mistake having heavier wide wheels and tires that reduce the amount of torque making it to the ground (and therefore increased traction) for having better grip during acceleration.

    Challenger backup camera has poor image quality, especially at night. I think it's at least partially because the camera is located in the spoiler at the top of the car instead of down by the license plate light at the bottom of the car. But the backup sensors are really good. Start beeping loud even when you're still 6 feet away from anything.

  • @silverfox392
    @silverfox392 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The brake noise is likely due to a lack of brake pad lubricant. CRC Brake Quiet works well, usually want I put on the back of my brake pads when I change them out. Dodge probably forgot to put it on at the factory #terriblequalitycontrol. A new car should have this issue if they properly installed the brake pads from the factory. Take it in to get your remote start fixed and tell them they need to put brake pad lubricant on the back of the pads.

    I have a 13' Durango RT. I do like it, but.... A good burp is more satisfying than my 0-60 time.. My a/c works when it wants, HID headlights (none in fog lights), doors and hood don't line up, leather seats are flattened from 'sitting', and that doesn't count the recalls either.

    like you, i had a 2014 R/T Max. The Beats audio in that car was far superior. So much so that you were being kind saying the bass is weak. The whole EQ is off and can't be adjusted into proper range. Yes, I have used white noise tests with a spectrum analyzer. I'm not convinced they didn't go with cheaper drivers in the system. I'm very disappointed. I will drill into this further. If this is just a firmware issue to get the base EQ map back to 2014 specs - I want it and will run tests again. If this was a bean-counter move - I will let the web know.

    The sunroof issue's have been going on since 2008. The sunroof gets stuck in the venting position where you have to pull fuse #2 to reset the cars computer, put the fuse back in after about 1 minute and then press and hold the sunroof button to vent it for about another minute to finish the reset of the sunroof. I've had the sunroof motor changed twice in my 2013 Challenger SRT and I still have the same issue. On the forums it's known as the sunroof glitch.

I have washed my car, dried it THOROUGHLY, used my sidekick to blow out as much water as humanly possible. Drive the car around for several hours in 100 degree weather, then went to open the trunk and STILL had water dumping out onto my rear window and fenders.

    their units as far as AC are sketchy. Our 2014 RT. If the evening prior you had the heat on, and the next day you want the AC on, the heat would stay on no matter how cool you turned it. The only way to get the AC system to kick on, was to completely turn the AC down to is coldest setting, and then hit the MAX AC setting which would blast cold air, then you could set it to the appropriate coolness you need. Our 2015 Challenger AC seems to be a bit weak as well.

    The squealing brakes is a result of the type of brake pads used on the car. Usually the high performance cars use a brake pad with a compound that can handle the power, hence why they squeak since there is so much friction

      Also, brake squeak means your brakes are really good and meant for track use. Really good brakes squeak because they aren't compromised with "quiet" compounds that the general populace wants to (not) hear.

    • @vezzarn
      @vezzarn 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      WarmSoftKitty Feel free to look up high-end cars that are meant for track use and the comments of brake squeal. Or look at high-end track pads online and they will tell you that it is not meant for street use because they will be LOUD. Also, ceramic alone tends to not deal well with heat in a brake pad. So they dust less and squeal less but the compromise is they won't do more than a couple of hard stops without fading.

    New 2016 Scat Pack owner here. Just wanted to chime in on a couple things you mentioned.
    The A/C strength: I seem to have the opposite problem you mention. My side vents are veritable hurricanes whereas the center vents seem to be quite impotent. I don't know if this has any impact on the rear vents, as I haven't had any back seat passengers at this time.
    Beats Audio: I totally agree. When I saw "Beats," I immediately thought, "The bass in this is going to be amazing!" But I was left disappointed. A friend of mine has an '02 Mustang with the Shaker audio that simply blows the Beats in my car out of the water.
    Finally, the brakes: I've yet to hear my brakes make any noise. Hard braking, gentle braking, inching forward in traffic with the brakes held... Nothing. Perhaps you have an actual issue with your brakes that isn't a "all Chargers" kinda problem.
    After seeing this, I kinda want to make my own "What I love/hate" video. Thanks, man. :)

    What A LOT of people miss is that, yes, it has a ton of power, BUT it is encased in a 4100 pound car. For instance, the Ford Mustang GT350 weighs 370 lbs less than the Challenger. So when power-to-weight ratio is considered, the Challenger only wins by a very small margin.

  • @MrTrip3ace
    @MrTrip3ace 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The oem brembo pads are great for the track but horrible for street use. As you see they squeel alot and they have a ton of brake dust. Most SRT owners swap out the pads for stoptech pads. They bite 95% as well as oem but with virtually no brake dust and no squeel.

    Most A/C systems only reduce the temperature by 30-35 degrees compared to the outside temperature. So, if you live in Texas and the outside temperature is above 100 degrees, the inside temperature of the car will be around 69-75 degrees. Normal, for most stock A/C systems.

And as for the AC I would take it back to the dealer, I live in Las Vegas and we have been having 110 plus temps daily lately and my AC with freeze you out in minutes that includes the rear AC for passengers. I don't have a scat pack or srt just the pentastar v6 so it won't brake traction but will hit 100 just fine and I still get 30+ mpg and I bought it new for only 23k it's

    About the brakes - Brakes are a personal pet peeve of mine. It took me years to find out what was happening because mechanics would never give me a straight answer. I have Brembos on my Camaro and they're fine - so I don't think it's related to the brand you have.
    But what I DO think is this - when they put new brake pads on, they need to use brake cleaner or something on them to clean them off before they put the pads on. Brake pads are coated for protection from the factory - otherwise they'd rust in their box waiting to be sold. If this coating is not removed, the heat from normal usage of the brakes will cause this squealing sound.
    Your example sounded EXACTLY like what has happened on my previous cars. So I contend that it has something to do with your pads - likely the protective coating.

    Break squeak isn't an issue. The brakes are made with a more grippy, durable metal compound than the brakes on an average car, which will typically have brakes more designed to be quiet than anything else.

  • @BrandonWensing
    @BrandonWensing 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    As far as your A/C issue goes: A rampant issue in most of the larger Dodges since I think 2012 or 2013 was the blend door actuators, especially in the cars with dual climate control. I have a 2014 Charger and replaced 2 so far (luckily under warranty). It would essentially get stuck at certain temperatures and would go to the temperature I selected if I restarted the A/C, and that only worked about 30% of the time. I'm thinking maybe since you're in Texas it's not as easy to tell since you probably don't have to change beyond cold often. Maybe the blend doors are stuck at a setting closer to 70 even though you have it set to Lo? Best way to verify this is to set it real hot then real cold and see if it takes.

    hey i have a 2012 rt... have the same problem as you with the ac. over the summer when i was going to some college classes in Pasadena some days it got to above 110 degrees. When i tried to start up the ac, it wouldn't really work until i got onto the freeway. as soon as i did that it would always get extremely cold almost instantly. what i found was that if you find a moment to pick up speed for a little while (not sitting in traffic and keeping the rpms close to idle) it really helps kickstarts the ac unit going. hope that helps (: oh and as for the squeaking brakes, id just pick up a set of spirited driving pads that wouldn't squeak, but I'm sure you already thought of that.

    Hi, I have a white 2016 Challenger Scat Pack. Would you recommend going to the 275s? I'm still in break in period (1,068 miles). I don't see myself doing too many 0-60s. Also, I would have to add that the passenger seat blows. For spending close to 50 grand, I would have liked electric seats. Last thing, my 4 piston Brembo brakes suck, feels very squishy.

    this is how A/C works, 1. the center vents will always be the most cold and will always blow harder than the outter thats on atleast 90% of cars because they are in the direct path of the blower motor/ coldness of the air also depends on the humidity of the outside air, the more humid it is outside the less cold the a/c will be because the water in the air is condensing on the evaporator which needs to be dry. so southern state a/c typically sucks, also the tire issue is basically dodges way of sticking it to those people who thought they getting an srt by just buying the scat pack , the SRT comes stock with 275's as well as it comes stock with 6 piston brembo brakes as opposed to the 2 piston on the scat pack. just saying.. not tryna come at you but yea thats why lol
