- The 70'sand 80's were a great time to young and alive in America- not perfect - but pretty damn good. If your sport was motorcycles it was even better. A lot of these pics were nationally known racers or champions. Some of the pics were of local races (but not nearly enough)-- they are perhaps even better images. If you notice- a lot of smiling in the pics- there were after the Finish Line! Tried to capture the excitement of the race finish or just after- on a victory lap or trophy presentation . No trophy girls (at least I didn’t see any) -there is another video for that! Hope you enjoy.-- Remember it's historical.
This is a still photo montage of Vintage Flat Track. I do not own the rights to theses photos-- most originally published by the old "Cycle News" or other print magazines of the 1970s or 80's and a lot have been 'scarfed' off the internet - others publicly posted by users of various forums. There may be a couple of pics from the late 60's, 90's or 00’s in this tribute - but if you were part of this - it does not change the vibe. This video is not monetized. The only folks that can make money on this video is You Tube (advertising) and music producers of background music used (royalties paid by You Tube). Kudo's to the old 'Cycle News' and individual Photographers who captured these moments. 40 or 50 years ago - who knew we would still be around to enjoy them- some us are not.
Special thanks to Greg Pearson for use of his father’s (Bob Pearson's) pic of Jay Ridgeway. It definitely is a highlight of the video. A few of the Individual photographers from the era are still around (2021) - some of these photos are undoubtedly theirs-- They are still (or were) selling a lot of pics they sold at the tracks back in the day-- If you were a racer- you knew them-- If you are descendant (unfortunate) you could contact them with your racers number and tracks they rode- they maybe able to hook you up with some pics of them. A few I know of are Bert Shepard, Mitch Friedman, Mike Stuhler, Len Breech, and Dave Hoenig handled most of the Mid-West of the US, I think. Dan Mahony, and Mitch Friedman handled most of the Western US, I think . They all probably shot the National events at one time, I’m guessing. They all were on Facebook the last I checked. Dan Mahony’s Facebook page is --"Mahony Racing Photos".

Glad you like it-- glad you shared your thoughts!
Bouncing Bob working the flags was a sight to behold. Awesome memories.
I new Randy Cleek when he was just about 4 years old. He was always around at his father's motorcycle shop.(B&M cycle) in Shawnee okla. He use to ride a little mini bike out back of the shop. The mini bike had no brakes so when he wanted to stop he would just run into someone's leg. 😂😂🤣🤣😆😆 He was very ornery. We were just 13 years old then. Got to see him grow up and develope into a fine young man and racer. Terrible when we lost him. R I P Randy!!!! Nice video.
Fred Nix on a hard tail sprint.... Dave and Donny Estep. "Very kewl!" Thanks for the memories.
Most wonderful memories, enjoyed seeing the Bultacos again!
Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great collection of finishing. I cite this scene in my book, CEO of Self. Motorcycle racers expect to pilot their own lives.
Glad you like it!
Terry Poovey, Guy Mcclure, Garth Brow, Randy Cleek were all guys I raced against without much luck. Maybe four of the best short track racers ever!
Clayton- you raced in the golden era!
Back in the 70s if you wanted a pure "Adrenaline Rush" this was the way to go..Go fast never stop till the race is over..Bultaco-1972-250cc..No cell phones, no video games, no computer, this is when life was great..If you got banged up you got back on the bike and kept on going and if you were in a lot of pain after you might rub a little bit of Bengay on you and you're ready for the next race..🏁🛵💨🛵💨🛵💨🛵
Wow ,I loved this! Great times!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another WINNER!!! Good ol days!🇺🇸⚔️🍕🍺🏁🏆👍👍 Thanks!
Glad you like.
When I saw the Roder's I saw My History! I was at that race and saw that win!
More please, this is freaking awesome!!!
Nice to see images of Guy...glad to see one of these images I shot at Oklahoma City.
Ascot, turn 1, good times.
Glad it brought back some memories!
boys are back in town
After The AMA/Harley-Davidson had 2-strokes banned not a single Harley-Davidson win counts. Same for Indian and any 4-stroke.
Bouncing Bob the AMA flagman
Kr with Bud was cool Peace out
Man, I had fun in the 70's....great aspirations of maybe winning a race....ya' could dream big, and just maybe...ride your bike to glory...I loved flat track racing and whole inner circle. My mentor was Bob Vaughn of Sunny Valley in Southern Oregon...he was awesome, won races all the time on his Black & Orange Triumph 500....So incredibly smooth on the track, ---- he never let me feel sorry for myself if I lost. Good times for sure! Great time to be a young man who was fascinated with flat trackin'!!!
Great story!
