    Fun fact: Mikasa's first sentence in the manga (it's different in the anime) is "Take care Eren" (like her last sentence to him when she kisses the severed head) and you only see the bottom half of her head with short hair and when Eren wakes up from the dream in the first manga part he says to her "your hair has gotten longer" and then says he had a very long dream.

      This leads me to wonder when did Eren actually visit Mikasa? I think it was the multiple times she had those headaches throughout the series when she lost someone important? Was it her Ackerman traits that was fighting her from seeing that visitation that was causing the headaches? Or Ymir poking in her mind to see what she would do during those low points and finally allowing her to see it before Mikasa killed Eren.
      Mikasa somehow knew Eren was in the mouth immediately after seeing that paths visit so he must have told her in there (just how he told Armin what he knew would happen)
      Anywho, I just loved how it circled back and connected. Both Eren and Mikasa’s “dream” 😭😭

    Fun fact time works differently in the Paths so when the scene cuts to Eren and Mikasa in the forest Eren spent 4 years with her there giving her the life she always wanted and then bringing her back to the real world. If you wanna say that you *think* they spend the equivalent of 4 years in there, because it would be poetically significant, then that's a position you can make, but we have no idea how long the two of them actually experienced there.

    Many people didn't understood the meaning of the last scene with the boy and the dog but I believe it was meant to give is hope. I will explain from the beginning. That blue glowing thing didn't give Ymir the power of the titans, it give her the power to create and she created the titans. She chosed to create the titans and start the era of fighting. The boy however if he even manages to get the power of creation is not guaranteed what he will choose because he is in totally different situation than Ymir. She ran for her life feeling scared alone and powerless trying to hide in the tree . The boy from the other hand went there curiously exploring it with his dog. We are not sure what he will create. It may be again something horrible or it will be different and beautiful. We can't be sure what will be but we are sure for one thing: It will be his decision based on what person he chosed to be and how the world treated him.

    So basically this entire series exists because Ymir had to learn how to let go of someone she loved that wasn't good for her. That's why she was finally able to move on and stop abiding King Fritz's wish after she saw Mikasa kill Eren. That's also why you get that brief scene with Ymir and her three daughters happy after the King is killed by the spear.

    • @gazelle_diamond9768
      @gazelle_diamond9768 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Exactly this, I do not understand why this is so hard to grasp for some people. Ymir was looking for someone who loved another person as much as she loved Fritz but was still able to kill that person despite their love.

      @viniciusmaia1407 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gazelle_diamond9768 I believe everyone understands this but that doesn't change the fact that it's a ridiculous reason, it was all about a poorly handled storage syndrome and in the end when Armir asks Eren why it should necessarily be Mikasa he says: Only Ymir knows hahaha In other words, the most important question in the work simply has no justification, a regrettable ending to such a good work

    • @gazelle_diamond9768
      @gazelle_diamond9768 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@viniciusmaia1407 It HAS a justification, it's just not handed to you on a silver platter and requires you to think, which I know is difficult in today's world where media overexplains every single plot point to you.
      The reason why it had to be Mikasa is because Mikasa was in a very similar situation as Ymir. She had to choose to kill the man she loved above all. That's something Ymir, despite Fritz being the worst person to ever exist, never had the strength to do and never could even imagine having the strength to do.
      This entire time, she was searching for someone to prove to her, to show her, that it would be possible to kill the person you love the most in order to safe yourself and the rest of the world.
      That's why, at the end, when Ymir stands face to face with Mikasa, we see a flashback of Ymir hugging her children with Fritz impaled by the spear. It's what she then realised could've been, if she had had the strength to let Fritz die, despite of her love for him. That's what she wanted to see for all those 2000 years. And that's why, after finally seeing it, she could rest in peace and end the curse of the titans for good.

      @@gazelle_diamond9768 I made a short comment and that's why I think my point wasn't clear, so I warn you that this is going to be a little long.
      I believe that the initial problem is exactly the opposite of what you said, the people who really liked this ending are precisely those who are used to receiving information on a plate while those who didn't like it are really used to delving deeper into things, I'll prove it through my points:
      1 - The biggest problem starts with Ymir, she was a peasant who lived in a village with her family until one day King Fritz appears and simply DESTROYS her life completely (he literally kills her family, cuts out her tongue, abuses sexually and psychologically her in every way and treats her like the purest TRASH), Ymir gets the power of the Titans by running away from men that King Fritz ordered to KILL her and after all that she simply declares total love for him instead of using the power of the Titans to simply free himself from King Fritz, can you understand how simply absurd this is? The author even tried to justify this with a Stockholm syndrome but this is simply one of the most complex themes in psychology that was played without any explanation, in other words everything that happened in the Aot universe was basically due to the fact that Ymir was completely crazy and developed love for the person who ruined your life. The way the author justifies this is very bad.
      2 - The relationship between Ymir and Mikasa is absurd and meaningless, Ymir was the victim of a rare syndrome (and very poorly explained as I said before) while Mikasa did not have any similar relationship with Eren, the author himself admitted that he did not he didn't even have the courage to develop an actual romance between Eren and Mikasa because he felt insecure doing so, in other words, this love relationship between Mikasa and Eren is extremely poorly crafted, and in the end, as I said in the first comment, the most important question is not answered because even if we ignore these holes in the story, the reason why Ymir needed it to be Mikasa is not explained and is left open with the phrase: "Only Ymir knows"
      3 - For me at least it's almost absurd to believe that people can't see this kind of hole at the end and how shallow it was compared to the rest of the work, at the end of so much fighting Ymir was just crazy and Mikasa was left being a poorly crafted character who only existed to talk to Eren and get the scarf, she never even managed to actually declare her feelings and they never even managed to share a single kiss in all their time together because the author was simply embarrassed to do that, sorry But at least for me it's the ending that I can't accept
      4 - I think it's worth mentioning that this is just one of the few holes that exist at the end, I only mentioned this so the comment doesn't get any bigger than it already is but there are several other reasons

      @deardeer5215 but that's 4 years in the real world. In the path, there's no time. Just like when Zeke caught Erens head and had to wait what felt like years upon years before Eren regained his conscious. Those "years" in the path shouldn't affect the real 4 years? So what I mean is that even though the cabin is a alternative reality, Mikasa still got all the memories and experience of that reality so it's like she experience those 4 years with Eren. So no matter what she still got to experience and remember those 4 years.

    • @FabiTheSnake
      @FabiTheSnake 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      I think both of these aren´t it.
      I´m pretty sure that that is just what eren did with armin, but with mikasa. "all the times eren visited us".
      Across time he gave them memories, to comfort them, but also himself. And the thing with memories is they can be divert from actual reality.
      So it´s not an "alternate reality that could have happened" it´s the idea of what could have been. And eren trying to be with mikasa in some way.
      Eren couldn´t really let go of his 4 years, because that is what pretty much drives him to go through with everything. The fact that he was sentenced to either die his way, or a little later.

    • @nangstalgic4423
      @nangstalgic4423 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @FabiTheSnake that's an interesting take. But my theory isn't a "alterative reality that could've happen" mine is that the cabin was a past live that has already happen.
      Basically that Eren has tried countless times to find different solutions to end it but couldn't through many lives. And whenever he failed to end the curse of ymir and died in a timeline he would wake up under the tree in Episode/Chapter 1 to retry everything again. The Cabin was his last one being tired of fighting and spending his last 4 years with Mikasa before dying and waking up in the timeline we follow. Which is why i believe at the Cabin as Eren closes his eyes and dies Mikasa says "See you later Eren" as in she knows he will have to do this again. Then he wakes up under the tree asking Mikasa about her long hair since he just spend 4 years with her with short hair, and we know the rest of the story.
      I do still believe Eren has visited Mikasa and explained everything to her just like with Armin, but just not at their time in the Cabin. He probably did just the same way he did with Armin and with his other friends, just walked and talked.

    What I love about this final episode is how we feel about the enemies, like Annie, Reiner and Pieck. I remember hating their guts so much for what they did, and I thik that's what the show does really well, is that you feel every emotion the main characters feel, from fear to anger and to sadness. And now, we prayed for their survival in the final fight

    In the Path, time is different. So the cabin scene with Eren and Mikasa probably was a dream Eren made to actually live with her for the four years of life he had. And probably Eren himself told her that he's true body was in the titans mouth so she could kill him.

  • @GerblerM
    @GerblerM 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    21:07 an important distinction to make, and something to remember is that Eren didn't actually figure out anything. We're used to time travel tropes where someone sees the future and then makes some grand scheme to using the knowledge they gained, so we are tempted to fit that trope to AoT, but that's not what happened.
    Eren saw what WILL happen, no plan needed. He was shown all the events that play out, and was forced along that path. He was never playing 4d chess, or scheming, or plotting; rather he was a slave to the events as they were destined and predetermined to happen. The true irony of the series being that for all his bluster about freedom, he's the only one that knows the truth: no one is free. In a causal universe like AoT, free will is not only an illusion, but literally impossible. They're all slaves to the unbroken chain of cause and effect that destined every event since the start of time. At least everyone else feels like they're free, while Eren knows that he isn't

    • @silentstorm5757
      @silentstorm5757 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the question of whether Eren was free or not is quite interesting. You are right in that his future was completely determined, but that is not the same as not being free. In a very real sense his actions and intentions changed the world and lead him to a goal he wanted to achieve - as he says, part of him wanted to see this outcome. When he saw the future, he did not see any future, he saw the one he would have always moved towards. I'd say, in some sense, that definitely made him free.

    • @vincentvieille5996
      @vincentvieille5996 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@silentstorm5757 I agree. And it's his futur self who wrote the story for him, not some god. He, indeed, is a slave to determinism, but he paradoxally created his own fate. He is a slave to freedom because he created his own prison, to be sure that he will do the same thing again and again, without the possibility to change his mind. It's the exact same thing as the symbol of the arrow in the opening. Eren is shoting an arrow. But after you shot an arrow, you can't stop it anymore. The arrow will touch something. And it's the representation of the Rumbling and the fact Eren can't stop it to happen. He shot the arrow in the futur. But since it is shot, his past, futur and present self, can no longer stop the arrow. Basically, Eren's biggest ennemy was never the world, or the titans... It was himself. And he lost. He lost against himself.

    there's a lot in the comments already, but I haven't seen this one, so I'll just say this; when Eren told Armin that he didn't know why he did it, or that he just wanted to, it was because Ymir made him do it. He saw the future she laid out for him and he had no choice but to follow it. It was the only why she could be free, which is why Eren says he's "a slave to freedom".

    In the post-credits, if you pause at each time there are people at the tree, you see that it’s Mikasa’s relatives and growing family. It’s heavily suggested that she married Jean, and the person she’s with under the tree with her baby looks like him from a distance.
    One thing to notice is that Armin never visits the tree in the time-lapse, until after Mikasa dies and is buried next to Eren. You see a lot of family members, presumably Mikasa’s kids and grandkids, paying their respects under the tree. Then the last person to show up is Armin with a cane standing at Mikasa’s and Eren’s graves, and it signifies how he is always the last one to the tree at the top of the hill, like how the three of them raced back when they were kids.

    Hi, I really liked your reaction of the whole series. I just wanna give concluding information just in case you didn't quite catch that. But I think you did. Eren basically "won" because his intention was to make the world a peaceful place as long as HIS FRIENDS lived. He knew that in the end humanity would still destroy itself etc. And they all lived a long life and Mikasa died of old age. And I don't know if it is canon but there's saying that Mikasa can be seen with Jean together in the credits visiting Eren's grave. This also makes a lot of sense because Eren basically wanted Mikasa to have a new lover... after at least ten years ;). I really like the ending for all of these aspects, but I most importantly love it because the Survey Corps eventually won and freed (is that a word?) humanity by erasing titans of existence. It is just tragical that the wings of freedom are then instrumentalized by the Eldia Empire for military... The Corps was like what everyone needed but no one wanted. In the end a bystander, just like Shadis was in the end. Sadly nobody witnessed his heroic act with Magath of giving them time and opportunity to flee with the boat. This is why I like AOT a lot. You have these characters or groups in the background that do good things but are not enough to stop even more harm. That is why the Schindlers Liste ("Schindler's List") similie with the baby scene is so fitting as well. I could talk hours, days, weeks about AoT and there would be thousands of things to share. I'm really hoping as many people as possible can enjoy the show in their life and think about it.

      He even mentions these ambiguities several times through the reactions of the characters. And regarding Jean, there is a parallel made with Eren on a humorous way, but also on a deeper level. Jean always wanted to be like Eren, and Eren could not stand being compared to Jean.
      During Eren's absence, Jean stayed with the others, including Mikasa, and is seen worrying about her several times. He always respected the love she had for Eren. And no one claims that she could love Jean more than Eren !
      However there are plenty of clues that lead thousands of people to consider that it is a very plausible theory, and mappa does not have a monopoly on it. As long as Isayama does not contradict, it remains open in my opinion.
      And it's a good thing ! It's great to have several theories about the ending. I don't understand the disrespect to have for something that is argued by clues that are similar to those that once existed for several characters.
      For example, the identity of Zeke gave rise to several theories at the start, as did obviously that of the female titan, the Ackermans etc.
      Stay cool, if you read him again you can see he does not assert but proposes a theory based on certain elements.

    6:06 I think this something to think about. Eren, with god powers, told his loved ones "Fight me, and you win"
    "I will take nothing from you" Eren had this entire story in his hands. This is his result.

    I'm always bawling my eyes out when watching this episode. For some reason, with my watery eyes, you just looked like the grown up version of historias daugther (even with your hand in your hair, just like in the picture while historia is holding her 27:20 ). It made me smile so badly, that i didn't know if i should laugh or cry. Historia is my personal favorite character in AoT. This show is just amazing and will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for taking us on this journey with you!

    Mikasa died of old age after many many years. Don't think she died in her youth, one theory is that she married Jean

      She didn't married anyone, she remained loyal to Eren until her death. The man visiting Eren's grave with her is Armin.

    Also, from the first chapter: To you, 2000 years from now.
    Eren controlled this from the start. It ends with him dying, and his friends are an ambassador for peace, and the person who killed him.
    It had to be this way.

    I’m so sorry for the amount of times I’m commenting but I wanna point out a cool call-back this episode, when Armin is confronting that Marleyan general saying that they no longer had titan abilites and were unquestionably human. It’s a direct call-back to episode 9-10 of season 1 when Eren first transformed and that paranoid captain was going to execute Eren, Armin, and Mikasa. Armin found his confidence for the first time in the show to argue their humanity in the face of getting shredded by a cannon. And here at the end he does it again for but now not just for Eren and Mikasa, but all Eldian survivors of the rumbling

    I have probablx watched a thousend shows by now, and THIS is the only one that made me cry. not just once. again and again and again. attack on titan is the best story i know of. then berserk, then nothing. for long. then some other very good shows, but this, this is more than a master piece, more than a magnum opus. i cant express how much i love this. i would trade in years of my life to forget it all to watch it again.
