    Lyrics:
    Been hidin' out
    And layin' low
    It's nothin' new ta me
    Well you can always find
    a place to go
If you can keep your sanity
    They break down the doors
And they rape my rights but
    They won't touch me
    They scream and yell
    And fight all night
    You can't tell me
    I lose my head
    I close my eyes
    They won't touch me
    'Cause I got somethin'
    I been buildin' up inside
    For so fuckin' long
    They're out ta get me
    They won't catch me
    I'm innocent
    They won't break me
Sometimes it's easy to forget where you're goin'
    Sometimes it's harder to leave
And everytime you think you know just what you're doin'
    That's when your troubles exceed
They push me in a corner
Just to get me to fight but
    They won't touch me
    They preach and yell
    And fight all night
    You can't tell me
    I lose my head
    I close my eyes
    They won't touch me
    'Cause I got somethin'
    I been buildin' up inside
    I'm already gone
Some people got a chip on their shoulder
An some would say it was me
But I didn't buy that fifth of whisky
    That you gave me
So I'd be quick to disagree
    They're out to get me
    They won't catch me
    I'm innocent
    So you can
    Suck me
    Take that one to heart

There certainly isin't any wonder out there as to how and why this band got so popular. Pure, raw energy. And they had the songs to back up all the hype, image etc. I saw them open for Aerosmith in 1988. It was pretty insane-the crowd was going bonkers and Axl egged them on even further.

    • @deckard2665
      @deckard2665 ปีที่แล้ว +10

You are lucky to see them in '88. I got a chance to see them in '91 and '92 but that was when they just got too big to really be a great rock band. Just way over bloated for my liking. I wasn't crazy about the Illusions records and after they fired Adler and then Izzy left that was the writing on the wall for me. It just wasn't the same. They are one of those bands though, that for a few years made a larger then life impression. There is arguably nothing like Guns n' Roses during that Appetite era.

Adler BANGING on those drums. He had great timing, push, pull, and swing. Drumming is so much more that the technical aspects and I think when you write a song you play it best - I mean, it just makes sense. And I love Axls crazy expression on this cause that's it! Perform it and feel it man. And the kicks too. That's what being a front man is about.

So true, Steven Adler is way underrated, he had great feel that really comes through on these old live vids. Matt Sorum often pushed it too much, and their drummers in subsequent lineups all sound sterile like a cover band, but Adler just made you feel every beat right in your dick

    • @AmandaLea-bd9pk
      @AmandaLea-bd9pk 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hey - wanted to add something. I made a comment online once and someone didn't understand what I was saying and gave me a hard time etc, lol. Anyway ... I was trying to say that I love the song Patience but I prefer it sans drums - the way it is on the album. I love Adler though so it is nothing against him! But I commented that almost every time I have heard it played live they add drums. And they don't fit the song in some way. They sound out of place to me - kind of incongruent. ... Anyway - I heard a live performance of patience online the other day - with drums of course. And it actually sounded pretty good. Well guess what? You know who was tapping them? Mr. Steven Popcorn Adler. And it came back around to me why. What I've always thought about his drumming and what is is that I probably like about it, is that Adler doesn't overdo it. He does not hit too hard when he shouldn't. He hits softer when he should. It's that whole more is not always better concept. This is not to say that Sorum is not a good drummer, because I believe that he is. I think a drummer should not add fills where they are not needed, they shouldn't always try be as loud as they can, etc. If it needs to be subtle so it doesn't overpower the rest of the music then you play softer and more quiet. And that is why when Adler was playing the drums with patience it didn't clash as much - it seemed to work with the song better than a lot of the times I have heard drums added to patience. Slash has said at least once that lead guitar players often play very fast and intricate and it's really impressive but it doesn't sound good. Sometimes you have to be willing to pull back from showing off what you can do in order to make the song sound better. It's a team effort. And Slash did that - but so did Adler. I got slack cause they thought I thought there were drums on the song originally which of course I know there were not, lol. They didn't get what I was trying to say. It's sounds better without drums, but when they've been added, the times I have felt they went with the song best - or worked with the rest of the music - was when Adler played them.

Back ground vocals that are really weak and yet it works anyway because Axl is on fire and the energy delivers BIG TIME. Raw and savage, take no prisoners.. This is how rock should be and yet so very often isn't.

I love how the band is so into this performance that every single one of this will scream the curse words that they know will be dubbed out even if they don't normally sing back up on that part! Steven, Duff, all of them! You know, a lot of people like to mention that Matt would sing some back-up to songs while he played drums sometimes and that Steven did not. I will say this. Steven did actually sing some, but much like Lars, he gets his body so into playing and is moving around so much, that if he sang into the mic his voice would probably shake on a lot of the words. But you watch him and sings along to all of the songs. His entire body goes into his swing. When the other members yell the words you can hear them because I don't think they blot out their mics, lol.

One of my favorite questions to ask any hard rock/metal fan is “if you could see any artist or group on any tour, any year, alive or dead, who would you go see?”
Well, one of my top 5’s, for sure, would be to see GNR on the LA strip in 1987-‘88! Appetite for Destruction is a masterpiece except for the POS song sweet child ‘o mine!!!

Not an 80's kid but definitely an axl kid..in '92 I would have been screaming "welcome to the jungle" at age 4 in the loungeroom with my big brother (14)....33 years later....perfectly nurtured by this cool motherfucker in my ears since then...I'm getting a tat that says ( I heart axl) lol

    Been hidin' out
    And layin' low
    It's nothing new ta me
Well you can always find a place to go
If you can keep your sanity
    They break down the doors
And they rape my rights but
    They won't touch me
    They scream and yell
    And fight all night
    You can't tell me
    I lose my head
    I close my eyes
    They won't touch me
    'Cause I got somethin'
    I been buildin' up inside
    For so fuckin' long
    They're out ta get me
    They won't catch me
    I'm fucking innocent
    They won't break me
Sometimes it's easy to forget where you're goin'
    Sometimes it's harder to leave
And every time you think you know just what you're doin'
    That's when your troubles exceed
They push me in a corner
Just to get me to fight but
    They won't touch me
They preach and yell and fight all night
    You can't tell me
    I lose my head
    I close my eyes
    They won't touch me
'Cause I got somethin' I been buildin' up inside
    I'm already gone!
    They're out ta get me
    They won't catch me
    I'm innocent
    They won't break me
Some people got a chip on their shoulder
And some would say it was me
But I didn't buy that a fifth of whiskey that you gave me
So I'd be quick to disagree
    They're out to get me
    They won't catch me
    I'm fucking innocent
    They won't break me
    They're out to get me
    They won't catch me
    'Cause I'm innocent
    So, you can suck me
    Take that one to heart

I don't think she detuned it, slash was just playing out of tune a bit because he was drunk, and that person in the audience just pulled the guitar head down

I was a rock chic in the 80s. I suffered a lifetime of abuse. I lived a life of debauchery.
G&R lets you let off steam, for abused kids without a voice, especially. That's all it should do. I've learnt that blessed are the peacemakers. Don't sin in your anger. It's not worth it. Axl Rose 🌹 had to learn it I'm sure. Otherwise he wouldn't be where he is today.
